Bears OL giving ours a run for its money
Watching what happens with Williams in Chicago will be interesting as it parallels are situation but they're going with the throw-him-in-the-fire approach. You already see Williams' frustration of getting hit so much. And you see the receivers' frustration with Williams not being able to get them the ball.
We'll see if this spirals or if the coaches are able to keep the locker room together.

One rookie who was very impressive today was the TE Bowers for the Raiders. Good receiver, great blocker gets open and can run with the ball.

Two other who impressed were MJH and Nabors. Both will be top 5 receivers within next year or two.

Yeah I mean a lot of folks treated Williams like he had zero risk or downsides which seemed silly. Meanwhile Maye’s big “knock” was footwork issues which already seem to be a lot better after one camp. And Daniels also looks fairly decent, better than Williams thus far.

I guess we will see - maybe by end of year both guys will have played a good bit and we can make a judgment. Although, in 2021 we would’ve said Mac Jones was looking better than Lawrence by the end of that season, and obviously that didn’t hold in the long term.
Williams has a cannon arm and is uber mobile, he has the second lowest risk of all the QB's (after Daniels) but has the best bag of pure talent...

People forget about Maye that besides the footwork issues, the knock on him is that he was extremely inaccurate on short and medium passes. The bust potential is there,
I have to laugh when so many on this board think he is Josh Allen or Justin Herbert.....he is not as gifted as either of those two.

I could see Mac Jones evolving into Geno Smith level of good.

Caleb has a lot of bad habits, Pats look smarter by the snap not playing Maye. Caleb will get crushed by the media shortly while Drake will be chilling with his VR playbook
This 100%. If a mobile and elusive super athlete like Caleb with all of his WR weapons is getting crushed by pass rushers.....

Imagine what will happen to Maye behind that OL and Polk as his most accomplished WR

Every one and their mother knew that Alt, Bowers, and MHJ are the players to draft if you aren't playing the Annual "Save our franchise with a QB" sweepstakes.

Maye is extremely inaccurate on short and medium passes? I don’t think that’s correct at all.

You DO realize the dude doesn't come off his 1st read about 95 percent of the time right? I'm talking about Williams. Please tell me you don't watch QBs without telling me you don't watch QBs.

Rushing attempts through 2 weeks:
New England 75
Chicago 44

Besides a poor OL Caleb’s getting crushed because they’re not committing to the run and defenses are teeing off. Maye certainly doesn’t have the weapons in Chicago but he does have an OC who’s committed to running the ball.

Josh Allen had major accuracy concerns coming out of college.. 56.2% completion rate. Herbert 64%. Maye 64.9%.
Maye would never have hit that mark if he was "extremely inaccurate on short and medium passes." He has the tendency to miss the occasional gimme because he doesn't get his feet set. Hardly a deal breaker.

Bowers looked GREAT. Dude does it all.

Caleb Williams played for USC, where they routinely schedule low level opponents to crush. He has never had to be a fast processor. He has never had to know how to do the small things well. He has never had to be careful with the ball. The lowest level guy on his team was light years beyond most of the defensive starters he would go against. In the NFL, none of those things are true any longer.

This is how I evaluate QBs and where they played:

If they played for a top level school, did he make everybody look good? Did they have a reputation for being a hard worker? Did they approach the job studiously, never taking any opponent as lesser than? Bonus if they had to constantly prove themselves like Montana at Notre Dame and Brady at Michigan.

Then there's the guys who played at less big-time schools. Did they know how to make best use of what they were given. How often were they the reason they won or lost? If they threw interceptions, what was the circumstance? Lots of QBs can put up bad interception numbers if their receivers have bricks for hands and/or they're constantly playing from behind. The most important thing in those cases is... did they make the correct read and throw in the circumstance. Like if a QB throws a dart that bounces off a receivers' hands and gets picked, it's hard to call that on the QB, despite it registering in the stat sheet as such.

So what if SamBam is doing a little excessive day drinking? It is a weekend and it was a 1PM Pats start time. We are all good.

Yeah... This is so overblown with Maye. Folks see him miss an easy layup due to mechanical issues every once in a while and for whatever reason decide that that must be a huge part of his game, when it's really this tiny percentage. Meanwhile, the huge sum of other passes he makes with beautiful touch and accuracy are overlooked entirely.

How did those other rookie QBs look yesterday? Bo Nix getting valuable game experience by throwing a pick in the EZ? Caleb Williams getting his ass kicked? Will Levi's ****ting his pants in back to back games?
Might be a wise course of action for Maye to sit on the bench for a few more weeks.

If we're looking at it in that light I guess we ought to give him props for staying power. That post went up at 12:26 AM, what started as some excessive day drinking turned into a marathon (we don't judge here). That's some genuine long distance runnin' right there. Talent like that deserves recognition, I tilt my glass in his direction
