I might be in the minority but I think Maye should start sooner than later, maybe even next week, if not, then against the niners !

Not a chance. Even when Brissett had time he was awful. The OL can not fix the QB being awful.

Is this the start of a string of excuses like the ones we heard to defend Mac Jones?
The OL is so bad Jacoby did bail them out a little with a few of those plays to Henry in the first half. But then there are other moments where he feels like he's holding them back.

I'm ready whenever but I don't think this is the breaking point yet.

I’m happy overall with Jacoby and how the team is performing. I thought things would have been much worse. I enjoy the competitiveness of the team. I’m fine with sticking to the plan and let Jacoby continue to play.
Hawks have 2 Pro Bowlers starting at CB (Witherspoon and Woolen), and Woolen is just as fast and taller than TT11. Considering the talent over there, it's amazing the Pats were so (frustratingly...) close.

I generally agree with you, but I still want to start Maye. It’s not a need for gratification or worship - I know he will screw up sometimes - but most of the rest of the team has been pretty competent and it’s caused the glaring weakness at QB to become very evident.

The current starting QB is playing excessively conservative at his best moments while also still periodically making very stupid mistakes at his worst. If they are holding the kid out to keep him from making those mistakes and so he can learn from the vet, but the vet is playing like this, I struggle to grasp what is actually being learned.
Well, he can both learn what not to do (a lot of people learn those things from watching other people do the job they will soon inherit). But, more importantly, and something we can't see, we have no idea what he's learning about facing NFL defenses in real games. Is he able to read film and predict what the defense will do? Is he able to know what he should be doing at the line and with the ball? Is he doing what he's supposed to be doing on the sidelines?

Presumably, he's getting an education, so when he goes in, he's prepared.

I think the real minority position on this board is letting the coaching staff get him ready and play him when he is. And not just because Brissett is a career backup playing his career backup best... which isn't good enough. If anyone thought Brissett was going to be our solution at QB, they haven't been paying attention to Brissett's career. He's a placeholder to take the hits until Maye is ready.

Start Maye vs the 49ers. Gives them 10 days to get him ready. This game was easily a W with Maye.
Maybe its a win, but I don't know if he is going to be able to avoid sacks the way JB does. An example is when they were backed up on their endzone and JB got pressure. Maye will absolutely push the ball downfield. I am ready for the Maye era because JB is too conservative and its painful to watch.

The Pats have been on the short end of the talent comparison both weeks and the fact that they won one and should have won this one is wild to me. I am very excited for the Maye era.

I want Maye to come in and set the world on fire.

However...

I also recognize the team is still figuring itself out, coaching included.

We are down to our last legitimate option at LT.

If you want to Maye and the Pats succeed, you need to understand the weight of that last point. It's not a good situation for a rookie QB.

It will be frustrating, it will make our fanbase divided, it will undoubtedly make talk radio maddening (hi Felger and Mazz) - but sticking with brisett is the right call. We all know, the offense would benefit from a QB switch...but that's just an immediate satisfaction.

Long game my friends...I want to be on this board 5+ years from now talking about how great Maye look vs. being in the draft forum talking about which QB we should be taking.

That is NFL franchise hell.

Let's all pump the breaks. Understand this is a process... We weren't 1 player away at any point.

I'm confident Maye will at some point take the torch and lead us back into the limelight.

I reserve the right to be wrong, because I like many of you have spent ALOT of dollars and time on this team. I hope you all never lose sight of that.

Even when the chips are down and we have no shot. I'll still scream at the top of my lungs in any stadium, against any fanbase ... LFG NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

why didn't we run any play action? i feel like we could have done that a little no?

He didn’t get 50% in a regular week and they guy they are trotting out there clearly needs 100%
This is the dilemma. Play an unprepared qb or let the QBOTF atrophy.
Honestly, I doubt that extra 30% would do anything for JB. This has been his M.O for quite awhile.

Isn't the conservative nature coaching? It's been what BBQ has done the past 3 yrs

In general I’m encouraged. This is a rebuilding team and they have shown stuff they can build off going forward.

I thought the defense was generally good today. It seems like every time they gave up big gains it was Geno getting the ball out right before the blitz got to him. I wish the defense hadn’t blitzed so much on passing downs. Going forward they will either clean that up or stop blitzing so much. White looks like a stud. It’s a shame because if Barmore was healthy they could get much better pressure with just 4.

On offense we all expected the oline to be bad. So far this year the run blocking has been a lot better than I expected. If this team can consistently run the ball we will be in most games. The passing game needs to get better but it seems unlikely we can protect the quarterback long enough to throw deep. The hope is that that the line will improve as the year goes along.

Mayo had generally been good, although he obviously should have went for it on 4th and one in OT.

Through two games they have outperformed my expectations.

interesting, wed be in the playoffs if the season ended today

After 4 quarters, we were in a tie.

Is ANYONE saying that Jacoby playing just a little like an NFL QB wouldn't have resulted in a win? He was really, really incompetent.
========
We have lots and lots to improve upon. HOWEVER, as was the case several times last year, better QB would have been enough to win the game.
Jacoby is a back up.

That's been proven and his lot in the NFL.

Fix the line, this team wins that game.
Tbf the line was not that bad. We are on par with the Seahawks line .

Hopefully sow or strange come back soon and we have the following line

Lowe, Sow, Andrews, Onwenu, Wallace

Get Robinson in jumbo package on left side .

Brissett looks super limited and is so scared to throw an interception hence the dump offs.

Hopefully we get maye by week 5 and we get a win this Thursday against jets .

Did you see Brissett deliver a pass in about 2 seconds? Any pass quickly, on time, and accurate? Even one? No.

Brissett creates pressure by taking so long to stare down the reciever. The hope is that Maye will be able to make the quick decision and quick pass so we don't need to worry about avoiding pressure after standing in the pocket for 3+ seconds.

My guess, and it is a guess, is that Brissett can't turn his back to the field, then turn around, orient himself, and make an accurate throw.
Or he has no time to do that.
