Real feel good game.
So fun to see a happy win.
OL looked so much better than it did all summer!

They needed a Gesicki drop going to the ground in the end zone, a freak batted ball on the goal line bouncing right to Jones, a fumble on a return - everything bounced their way all day. No Tee Higgins, Burrow's wrist, Chase rusty... The Bengals fumbles bounced right to Patriots; the Patriots fumble did as well.
They absolutely would have beat the spread - no chance Cincy was winning by 8 or 9 under this game. But any one of those fluky plays going the other way could have spelled a different outcome.
This is very true, this win was amazing but it took alot of "lucky" bounces. To me it stressed just how much we need Maye in there sooner than later. I think they can beat Seatle with JB, but they absolutey will not beat the Jets, SF, they might beat Miami, prolly not the Texans. A good defense will be able to stop the run because there is no fear of the passing game and Maye could provide that fear and make teams respect the pass.

Couple small gripes, rather see Gibson with a few more touches and rham not carrying 25x a game. Obviously you want the ball in rhams hands often but gotta think long term too with his usage. Even hasty should get some carries here and there.

Not sure why there weren’t more screens today. We ran them well in preseason. The one we ran did get sniffed out by cincy and stuffed but it seemed like a good way to neutralize their pass rush.

Wouldve liked a reverse or 2 as well to Thornton and pop. Need to find ways to get the ball in their hands as well.

Other than trade value for dropping back, not as important to get the #1 this year. 2 QB’s will go high-ish and there will be some really good players in the top 10
I did not think they would have won today
Saying that
I hoped we lost games last year to get a high caliber QB
I refuse to root to lose anymore
If they draft higher this year, it means there is hope
And losing sucks

That is an important consideration, at least to me.

Mayo wins in his HC debut, while Mac Jones lost his first game in the NFL when he failed to bring the Pats back against the Dolphins.

Yeah small sample, but it is nice to start a career on an up note.
As much as I don't miss Mac, the Pats lost their 1st game because of a DHarris fumble at the MIA 11 with 3:35 to go down 17-16. Not saying the win was a guarantee, but that was not on Mac.

I really would like to say great job to JB. Not a great game as a QB, but I feel really good for him. He has always been a tough Sum Bich, and does not turn the ball over very often. I also love the fact that Mayo went with JB and showed confidence in him.

JB showed well against the blitz for the most part. Just the fact that he has worked hard for 9 years in not always easy situations is a testament to his mental toughness

I’m happy with the first game. The run game is a key part of this offense especially with the current o-line. Rhamondre was fantastic today. I’d like to see some passes from the back with Gibson. Also hopefully next week we will see more down the field passes. Overall can’t complain much with a rookie coach. On to the next game!

Why was Hudson running for the endzone while carrying the ball over his head like Lady Liberty holding her torch?

Hahaha at first I thought he was reaching for the end zone but replay looked like he was just pumping his arms excessively and without care to protect it. I'd like to give the guy the benefit that maybe it was just a balance thing or something but looked dumb and careless.

I'm fine with very few screens and very few reverses.

If the team is 2-2 or 3-1, that means J.B. is playing decently.

Why pull him?

If maye is ready and the pass protection has improved by week 5ish you have to start maye imo unless Jacoby is just playing lights out which won’t happen.

I couldn’t be happier about today and Jacoby did an admirable job aside from one potentially devastating throw but realistically In terms of wins and losses our ceiling with jacoby this year is probably 8 wins or so. They shouldn’t keep playing Jacoby expecting an actual playoff run or something. The only reason he should stay in is if the staff genuinely feels maye isnt ready or the pass protection isnt ideal by week 5. Maye has much more upside and in the worst scenario might give 2-3 less wins in a most likely non winning season.

Not that im expecting a playoff run from maye this year but you might as well get him the experience if it isn’t going to hinder the development (which is why i put the 2 prerequisites in above). My other concern here with jacoby playing all year is we are not learning much about our wr’s this year or developing them with Jacoby in imo. I just don’t see jacoby developing much of a connection with the wr’s especially on the deep balls. The goal to me this year is gaining as much relevant data as you can. This includes guys like Thornton, polk, boutte and baker if they ever get on the field enough

They will put up more passing yards. Not saying we are going to go for 400.. but I can see Brissett going for close to 300.. had he hit Thornton on a few deep post routes we'd have more production. Nevertheless good to get the win.
At some point, they'll let the grill warm up enough and cook some Brisket.

Why would you not want screens when the passing game is this limited, especially when pass protection is still a bit of a concern? J hasty said avp told the team he wants to be the best screen team in the league and we were very good at it in the preseason.

Its a good way to protect the qb

Lucky bounces happen all the time. I’ll take them when they go our way!

Great win - fun to watch (first time in forever!). Offense needs some work. Defense will be top 5 if they don't have to keep going out there
after 3-and-out, 3-and-out...

My only gripe is that when I got to my computer this morning, I forgot to put in my prediction for the game - I swear to god, not kidding - Patriots 17-10.

Aarrrrrrggggghhhhhhh!
