Mayo is a puppet

I don't think Mayo was an emotional decision at all. They saw what was put there and what they could get and so went with a place holder who will likely have a bad year vs a guy who might have a shot at getting 6 or 7 wins. This isn't because I think Mayo will be a bad coach. I just don't think he's ready for the job yet.

If Maye shows anything and we have a top 3 pick again and any of our other rookies show up (cause Maye isn't the only big time player we need to turn this around assuming he can become that) then we stand a good chance of getting the best coach candidate next year and locking him or her up for 5 years.

1. I didn’t love him as a football player.
2. So far he’s been a train wreck of a head coach.
3. BUT if he wins all is forgiven.
4. Even if he doesn’t win- at first- if his team plays hard and stays in games like with Belichik in his first year here, he gets the benefit of the doubt. At least for a year.

Fans: " The culture sucks with Belichick. He gives us no information , he buries players who don't kneel to him. His decision making is outdated and he has lost the locker room. He's the only ones making decisions and it's costing us! Look at all these other teams hiring young HCs out of left field giving them a shot."

:ats fire BB, Hire Mayo, reorganize team operations for more collaboration , Mayo over shares information and is transparent. Players begin responding positively to the new atmosphere::

Fans: " This guy sucks. He said Maye is is better but is still starting Brissett. He has no idea what he's doing. It's all Jonathan Kraft anyway. Remember when we had Belichick? Players wouldn't speak up and the media got NOTHIN!"

It's a sitcom around here, really.

Typical TV writer stereotyping fans, players, coaches, and owner.

So they should have fired Belichick after going 5-11?
I have said repeatedly, based how low the team has fallen under Belichick, that the record ought not be the key metric in evaluating Mayo's tenure as HC. So you will have to to save this silly criticism for some other poster to whose argument it is actually relevant. As for Belichick, yes, he should have been fired well before he was, but that is a matter long since argued ad nauseum, so I won't engage on it..

Mayo has been the opposite of transparent.

He said the team was going to burn cash. He said the best QB would play.

Giving disinformation is not transparency.

You’re new here. Many posters wanted Bill and his entire staff gone during the season only to pivot once Mayo was hired. Lots of hypocrites.
Mayo is coach, so he gets his shot. It seems early to pronounce judgement on his tenure, but it’s not hypocrisy to want Bill gone after he had grown too big for his britches, then to see Mayo’s performance thus far and say, “I’d rather have BB than amateur hour.” Sure, it’s unfair to Mayo — not a snap has been played — but it’s not hypocrisy.

This is a great point, but I don’t think Mayo was dissembling. He made the mistake of believing what Kraft/Elliot told him about FA and shared it. He then made the mistake of believing he had the final say on who plays. Hopefully Mayo now understands the character of the men he works for and adjusts.

This thread is stupid.

First of all, it's Optum.

You have no evidence Mayo is a Kraft puppet.

If you want to say Mayo is unproven and hasn't quite figured out the nuances of messaging his team via the media then you would be accurate.

Get off the opiates.

New **** has come to light, man.

This. Whether he's lying on purpose (unlikely), or having his legs cut out from under him by the front office (likely), it's not transparency. It makes him look foolish, and you can bet every other player in the league notices it as well.

Derek Henry is why he was able to have success everything thrived off the Titans run game and a tough defense.

Vrabel is a dam good coach. How he wore thin with the Titans brass. I believe he could still be a NFL coach at worst a DC. But the fact he's not should be telling.
Could be both ways. After awhile taking crap from owners and gms gets annoying. We were so spoiled with Bill…

I vote “yes”

He's a puppet for the owners who let the football people run the team for 20 years. Ok.

Is it possible Robert feels like he was way more important than he gets credit for? And now that he’s on his last legs he wants to prove that it was actually him all along? I’ve never been a fan of his. Can only imagine how a multi billionaire thinks… about himself and his legacy. Maybe he was a meddling fool for years? One day Bill will write his book… but I doubt he’d speak outside of school.

I think he should be evaluated by are the players buying in ... is the team over achieving the expected ... do the rookies look prepared for next man up. Where do they rank statistically vs the other 31 teams. What is their +/-. Evaluating this year based on wins and losses is lazy. I am sure I have missed a few here ... however team development is more important ... the wins and losses are a greater factor next year.

As far as a puppet ... laughable ... the players would not buy in on that one.
Evaluated by the players buying in !! Exactly

It seems like there's a "faction" of people who don't like Kraft who want to blame him for being cheap and/or setting up Mayo as a puppet for him to control. This is ignoring the last 20 years of Bill running every bit of football operations. Kraft made Parcells follow Parcells own plan for scouting and draft Terry Glenn, which then led to the Parcells divorce and the shopping for groceries comment. Kraft has said, paraphrasing, he inspects what he expects, puts people in charge and then then holds them accountable. this is what he did with Parcells. Why is it suddenly different? The only thing different IMO is he has Wolf and his staff making personnel decisions and Mayo as the young leader of the locker room, who's not going to be a grumpy old 70 year old that cannot relate to 20 somethings out of college. I just don't see the change in how the Krafts do things.

I do think there's an effort to make Kraft look good and get him in the HoF, but that's not at the expense of football ops. More as a manager of his senior staff and his superstar players, IE "holding it all together" with Tom and Bill.

It’s clear that Bob didn’t like being an afterthought to Tom and Bill. Bob admitted during the documentary that he wanted Bledsoe to play over Brady which is understandable given what he’s done for the franchise and his recent contract. However, Bill was facing a “pick your poison” moment where he either plays Bledsoe and the team doesn’t make the playoffs or he plays Brady and he turns out to be a dud. Had either scenario happened, Bob was going to fire Bill after 2001. Bob turned out to be wrong and they went on a 20 year run, yet has always tried to take credit for it. He’s a turd.

The same people trashing mayo before he even coaches a game, would have trashed Belichick when he was hired. He only had One winning season, and had a record of 36 - 44.

As per your usual routine, you gave a worthless word salad without answering the question. So I will ask it again:

Should Bill Belichick been fired after he went 5-11 in 2000?

They did. Then they washed him after he won 6 SBs.
