How Disappointed Will You Be Starting 0-4 or 1-3?

Looks to me like this board is well prepared for an historic tanking job. I'm sure the coaching staff and front office is quite relieved that they can't fail to meet such low expectations. I wonder if 83 year old Robert Kraft is that patient though...
Tanking means you are ~ intentionally ~ trying to lose games. Sadly this year they may not need to do that and achieve the same result.
Hey, here is to hoping I am completely wrong and we win the Super Bowl. I may even put a few dollars on the pats to make it to the playoffs, but honestly it would only because I should get really good odds.

We've been taking organically it seems. I just want watchable football this season, a team that competes win or loose.

Here's the thing... I won't be any more disappointed than I have been for the last several years. But you know who I think WILL be disappointed? The Krafts.

They spent two decades being lauded as geniuses and franchise saviors... A poor start to this season is going to subject them to a wave of criticism from fans and media that they've never experienced, and if that happens it's going to hurt them from the top of their dynasty-ripened egos to the bottom of the their overstocked-with-merchandise pockets.

I'll remind anyone who thinks the Kraft's have the patience for a slow rebuild - Matt Patricia coached for the Patriots for 14 seasons (including three superbowl wins) and was fired after a single unsuccessful season as an offensive playcaller... The team's record that year? 8-9...

If this team isn't .500 this year, I think Mayo is on the hot seat by the start of next season...

It would be way worse starting 4-0…
And then losing the rest if the season ..1-3 start is doable. 4-13 is our situation: 8-9, 9-8 pipe dream.

The Jets game is the only one they have a real chance in for the first 4 weeks. And if Rodgers comes back anywhere close to prior form, we can probably right that one off too.

Frankly this season is going to be more like a glorified pre season of seeing who here is worth anything vs NFL quality competition and who we can build around.
I’m afraid we gonna be the Jets ***** for the next few years

Obviously I want the Patriots to win every game but realistically…..I’m expecting that they will be at about that record after 5-6 games…..extremely tough schedule
Tough schedule??? Or we just suck ??

We’re #32 !!!
We’re # 32 !!!

Even if we were considered to be a respectable .500 team, with Barmore, Judon, and a half decent offense, the prediction would be at best 1-3. San Fran & Cinci are premier teams, the Jets are expected to be very good, and those 3 games are all on the road (the Jets on 4 days rest). And Seattle is not a gimme at all. So starting 1-3 or 0-4 doesn't tell us much except what a b*tch of a schedule we have the first month.

What we're looking for are respectable efforts: no turnovers, be competitive on both sides of the ball, keep the games within a couple of TD's. Games where we lose 24-13, not 31-3. Hopefully take Seattle, and really challenge in at least one of the others.

I hate being THAT guy but everything about how they approached this offseason and built the team points to rooting FOR an 0-4 start. Honestly, I'm rooting for a repeat of last year where we have a terrible record but lose a ton of close games. I just hope this year more young player development seems to be happening and it doesn't feel like a miserable team just going through the motions. That 2021 Lions team that was 0-10-1 with close losses almost every week but showing fight and competitiveness is the model of what I'd look for.

I'll watch each individual game rooting for it to be one of the wins we get on the year but being realistic about our team, another 4-13 type year is where I envision and hope we end up.

Can both be true?
Well not really. Back in the day when we was great… we looked at 12-4 as a staple pretty much every year. I’m going out on a limb and say our schedule back then was way harder due to the fact of seeding at the end of the year. We are starting from scratch. Let’s just enjoy the next few years and see how it all shakes out. But we are gonna suck lol

I never like losing, but won't be disappointed, I am actually expecting it. This year I'd rather be honest with myself to avoid inflated expectations... will be here for the whole ride though...

Just had to lower my expectations, and am hunkering down for a long season...

This is where I’m at as well. As I have said before I’m more interested in seeing if Mayo can change the culture to one where they play their asses off every down every game. I will start looking harder at their wins and losses next year.

In the "great" years seeding only impacted 2 out of 16 games. You played your whole division twice (6 games), one full division in conference (4 more), one full division out of conference (4 more). The only seeding impact was on the last 2 in-conference games.

The reason our schedule is so tough on paper this year is because the 3 teams in-division all look to be better than us. In the past it was the opposite. We go from 6 projected wins on paper to 6 projected losses.

Very. The team went cheap in every way, including hiring an OC being paid by another team. They refused to sign an NFL caliber starting QB. They have no LT and a very questionable RT situation. They lowballed Calvin Ridley even as they haven't had a good WR since Julian Edelman. They traded Judon instead of paying him.
On top of all that, they lied to fans, claiming that they would play the best players, including the best QB. Now they are starting a retread stiff that had a preseason rating below 30. He also looked horrible in the process. But at least Mayo told us the team was "ready to burn some cash."

If you are going to give the finger to the fans and operate in this way, you better win. And when you don't, you better be prepared for the inevitable heat that is coming your way.

I'm sure they are afraid of heat from message board posters.

You think the message forum posters are the only ones that are going to bring heat? The media is going to be absolutely ruthless if they go 0-4.

Not disappointed at all, it's not about how you start it's how you finish... Just would make the eventual 13-4 or 14-3 finish all the more sweeter.

Well, at least we aren’t the 49ers and Steelers who just gave multi year contracts of north $15 million per year to a 36 year old OT and 35 year old DT respectively.
