Opening it early.

Here's a Bengals forum game thread: Week 1 opponent-Patriots
They sound optimistic and they should be but they bring up a good point that week 1 games can be weird. Hoping we can surprise them by keeping it close late.

AVP's familiarity with the Bengals being in that division can't hurt. Goes without saying that the OL is in for a challenge against a very good DL.

Chase is practicing but I don't think his contract situation is settled yet. He'll play though. Maybe.

Last year's Bengals stats (sans Burrow for half the season)

Looking forward to seeing Gonzo vs Chase. I imagine Burrow will start little slow due to not having played meaningful football in quite some time now.

I initially gave the Patriots a chance to upset the Bengals in week one BUT the offensive line is so bad I have serious doubts. The Bengals are notorious for starting the season off slowly. Add in the fact that their starters barely played this preseason.
If the Patriots line could be at least average they'd probably start off 1-0.

In a vacuum, this is the week you want the Bengals. Week 1 is always bit chaotic across the league, the Bengals are typically slow starters, and Burrow is coming off a hand injury for the first time in almost a year. I don't think the Patriots have their own house in order enough to pull it off, but if there was going to be an upset of Cincinnati, this is the week to do it.

Thanks for the summary and info , possibly an idea going forwards for each weeks opponent and what to expect.

No shot....

Although I am for getting the OL's **** slightly together before Maye plays, I give us a 25% chance of pulling off the upset with Maye. No shot with anyone else.

Like last year, The Pats were one Boutte (two feet inbound) away from being on Eagles 8 yard line with 30 seconds left and a chance to win.....when I think they were a big underdog.

Cincy allowed more yard per passing attempt than Any team in the league. Chase hasn’t been practicing. Run defense gave up second most yards per attempt, overall defense ranked 21.

Unfortunately Jacoby is not accurate on deep balls but he’ll have chances and if he hits a few there is a chance.
Burrow always throws a pickable ball during the game, usually a couple but his receivers just win at point of attack but he’s also coming off another injury

If you hit the deep balls, you pick when the opportunity arises and your defense is solid you can win.

If Maye plays better chance on deep balls, better chance to win, though better chance he would throw a pick than Jacoby,
If game was at home and Maye started it’d be a toss up. On the road unlikely win but they will have a chance if Jacoby executes, they control clock and win TO battle.
Too many unknowns, coaching ability, Defense ability, Offensive line, QB to really expect them all to end up positive and get a win on the road but they could surprise.

9.5 point underdogs, largest underdog of any team on opening weekend.

Funny how that happens when you don't have your 2 best defensive players from last year, no offensive line, and no weapons.

Bengals are winning this game in a rout, Brissett + this offensive line on the road against a team that can score absolutely stinks of 27-10.

I just don't see where the points are coming from, it's hard to see where we score more than 13.

I believe gonzo should be on Higgins and double chase with j. Jones and Hawkins.

Make Burrow become check down Joe.

My only question would be how many errant throws and, or INTs would it take for Mayo to pull Brissett?
