Patriots improve to 3-2, Bengals drop to 3-1
What a difference a week makes. The Patriots were back to their ruthless best on Sunday Night Football, blowing out previously unbeaten Cincinnati 43-17. Six days after getting whacked by Kansas City in primetime, the Pats ignored the noise and rallied for their best performance of the year, racking up 505 yards of offense, running 82 plays from scrimmage and controlling the ball for more than plus-17 minutes, 38:56 to 21:04.
After the two teams exchanged punts to begin the second half, the Bengals looked like they might make this a close game. Adam Jones returned the punt 47 yards, and on the next play Andy Dalton threw a 37-yards touchdown pass to Mohamed Sanu, closing the gap to 20-10. The Patriots responded with a 10-play, 86-yard drive highlighted by runs of 14 and 19 yards by Shane Vereen, culminating in a 16-yard TD pass to Gronk. On the ensuing kickoff Brandon Bolden hit former Patriot Brandon Tate, jarring the ball loose. Kyle Arrington scooped up the ball at the nine yard line and ran it in for another touchdown.
With that the Patriots had scored two touchdowns in a matter of six seconds and blown the game wide open, taking a 34-10 lead. From there the Pats played keep-away, grinding out nine, nine, and eight-play scoring drives to wind down the clock. Stephen Gostkowski kicked a career-high five field goals, Stevan Ridley rushed for 113 yards and a TD, Vereen added 108 yards from scrimmage, Gronk had six catches for 100 yards and a TD, and Tim Wright had five receptions for 85 yards and a TD.
With the victory the Patriots owned an NFL best 38-9 record in the month of October since 2003, and a league best 23-1 record in October over that same span.

Tom Brady and the Patriots routed the Bengals and quieted the doubters.
The three-time Super Bowl winner finally looked like a quarterback who has thrown for 50,000 yards in his career, as New England dominated the NFL's last unbeaten team and beat Cincinnati 43-17 Sunday night.
Just six days earlier, the Patriots lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 41-14, which unleashed criticism that Brady had regressed and lacked talented teammates to help him.
Gronk's first half reception put Brady over 50,000 yards passing in Tom's career.
His 27-yard catch and run was followed by a 17-yard TD pass to the other tight end, Tim Wright.
