Player Signing Patriots Claim 4 on Waivers

There is much truth behind the criticisms of the team as it currently stands. Any team with this much roster turnover that is depending on many young unproven players led by a new coaching staff is destined to be bad at this point. The season will either be another lost year or a stepping stone to the future. To me it all comes down to 2 questions. 1. Will the youngsters learn and improve as the season progresses? 2. Can the coaching staff game plan well enough to minimize the weaknesses of the roster to allow the players to perform to their potential?

I liked Elliot. Gesicki sucked. I think Gibson will be better. And Hooper definitely is better. Not a huge difference either way though.
Yeah I don't understand how the Patriots lost Elliot; he was very good and a leader in the locker room. Another short-sighted economizing move by the cheapskate Patriots? I don't know.

As far as I can tell the only OL pickups off the waiver wire before the Patriots had a chance was
rookie sixth-round offensive lineman Jarrett Kingston, guard, from the 49ers that the Panthers picked up. He appears to have had a good preseason as far as pass blocking so it was a bit unfortunate that the Patriots did not get a shot at him. I don't think that the Commanders picked up any linemen.

We might get shut out.

Yeah, but the Patriots have a stout, if demoralized, defense. I could see us losing something like 0-4 or 5-10, i.e. baseball scores with one or more safeties against us.

Jacobs and Thomas are intriguing claims. I don’t recognize the other two.
Curtis Jacobs has got to be a bit depressed, going from the Best, the Chiefs, to the just about the Worst, but at least he is still in the NFL. I cannot imagine that the other pickups are too happy either, but considering the talent level of the Patriots, they will probably get a lot more playing time. I am hoping that Demontrey Jacobs can be a serviceable LT. If he does then the Patriots will have dodged a bullet, but they don't deserve much credit after ignoring LT in the draft and FA period.

I don’t think “in the next couple of years” is a good goal. If we win 5 games then 7 then 8 then get a wild card in 2027 that’s a failure.

I believe we are going to be the worst team in the NFL this year and get spanked in many games. That wasn’t necessary. If we suck real bad and eventually become decent i don’t think that is success.

Yes if they are successful, i will praise them and I hope that happens. But other than hopefully getting a qb I don’t see any positives and I cannot understand why any team would not spend the bulk of their cap. There really is no advantage to doing that
And will you shut up if they aren’t?

At best it’s marginal improvement and there is nothing that is significant or impactful.
Who was missed that is the impactful free agent that you so desperately cling to ?
I’ve posted numerous times there were dozens of free agents available that would have improved this team. You act as if since you don’t know the names they don’t exist. Check the list, I can’t respond to everyone who wants to crawl under the excuse that there weren’t any players out there that could improve a 4 win team. We just signed 4 that were cut, there were 100 free agents better than those guys.
So you just want to rail about the 50m bucks without offering solutions. Got it.

A 6th rounder? All JAGs - no real help.

Has never stepped on the field and a backup - no real help.

And cut him. A JAG. No real help. They cut Guy and traded Judon - we are going backwards.

This further proves my point. Adding this to your list indicates your whole post is sarcasm.

Again I missed that your post was sarcasm. My apology.

Do you work for the Pats reporting to E. Wolf? Do you support E Wolf for GM of the Year?
Maybe you could give your detailed plan? Provide specifics please. You don't like the offense and how they addressed it and at the same time criticize them for ignoring the defense. Which free agents would you have signed that would have been of help now and the future and how would your draft had gone? Thank you in advance.

I never said I didn't like how they addressed the offense. Where did you get that?

Yes they ignored the defense. I have detailed repeatedly the defense FAs they should have looked at. I am not going to keep repeating myself every time a new poster appears. Feel free to do a search.

You are welcome.

What did they do that was better than expected.
Can you name a single good player they tried to sign and couldn’t, aside from the failed attempts at Ridley and Aiyuk.
If they had tried to build a quality roster and failed, I’d wonder why they failed, but at least they tried. I saw no effort to try. We pretty much sat out free agency aside from guys who were cheap.
They showed no interest in spending the 50 million they have. And it’s 50 not 30.

I would love to feel good about the new regime. Can you give me any examples of what they did that should make me feel positive. We look like a 2 or 3 win team. How can that make you feel good?
Please post the results of the last 3-4 drafts. Then give your detailed plan for re-building the roster in 1-2 years. Also failed attempts are still attempts.

I took your advice, gave up looking for your specific defensive FA's when i got into June and hadn't found any in your post. Other than you mentioning Gilmore is now a better zone defender and Gonzo needing a partner.

The worst part about this season is going to be seeing that the defense is nothing like it used to be.

Feel free to post whatever you want.

So when we attempt to win and get blown out, that’s ok with you because we attempted to?

I’ve posted the voluminous list of players that would have improved the team a few times already.
Pick who you like. Literally you can’t go wrong, there were many good players available at many positions that are better than what we have and we had 50,000,000 to spend on them.

Maybe, but he’s probably looking at it as a second chance. He chose to sign with KC as an UDFA and it didn’t work out. NE chose to put a claim on him, meaning they want him on their roster. He’s got a job in the NFL.

I was surprised they didn’t address line more in the draft. I’m not sure if the way it unfolded caught them off guard, if they have higher hopes for Wallace than do many others, or if they found Polk too alluring and knew the multi year rebuild allowed them to prioritize the line next year.

He and @Wozzy among others have given plenty of missed options over the last couple of months. The FO bought low early and waited to see how it played out. Expected results.
