Going on a road trip for a few days so not sure when can watch all 22 but watched the replay today and YES, the Line has hope. The refs could have called that lining up penalty all 1st quarter on every pass play on BOTH teams, they decided onm the final pre-season game, to put league on notice you can't lineup too far from the line. However, they will not be enforcing it at that level in the regular season, this was a statement by the league, I wouldn't let it affect the tape review.

My reviews of All-22 Robinson in weeks 1 and 2. I specifically said he needed a season to learn the NFL blocking schemes, he looked lost in the game 1, he showed as a run blocker in game 2, I said he was not ready to start. Well, he proved it, he can be a good starting guard, late in the year or next year, he needs time

The line held up very well on most pass protections, the line mostly blocked well for running plays. If you put the best starting 5 out there, it will all come down to the LT.

Here were the plays that were bad by O line, not counting the lineup penalty.
-Jacoby play was a screen, the rusher was too far outside for the pulling lineman to chip, the RB was supposed to fake a screen that way, should have adjusted, really on Jacoby, he needed to adjust protection as you could see before the play the RB was going to have to block that guy but Jacoby did not alert him, Jacoby also missed an easy throw earlier, he continues his career as a bad NFL starting QB, but we knew that the day he signed.
-Robinson beat on Maye first incompletion
-Robinson beat on run play
-False start Robinson

So far 4 bad plays, 1 on Jacoby, 3 on Robinson.

-Sow and Chuks got beat but Maye released quickly for completion, would Jacoby? A case where Maye playing saved the line, Sow held his guy longer than Chuks, this is where the QB is so important, he had time, not a lot, made the play.

-Leverett Driven back
-Sow was driven back on TT incompletion, Maye stepped up as outside rushers went around him but did not need to step up as much, partly on Maye, partly on Sow
-Robinson pushed into Maye
-Robinson beat run play and held
-Jordan hold bad call by refs.

So 10 bad plays by O-line, the rest were solid

5 on Robinson
1 Bad ref call
1 on Jacoby
1 on Chuks, with little help from Sow
1 on Sow with a little help from Maye
1 on Leverett driven back-happened again later but did not effect play

Sidy Sow needs to start over Robinson. Hopefully he's healthy.

You only had 2 plays by the prospective starters on the line that were bad.
The rest were on backup lineman and the refs.

Left Tackle is the question mark as well as depth. hey can get a starting 4 that will be fine, as long as someone plays LT and nobody gets hurt they can be solid, how hard can that be LOL.

Wallace looked very good at RT but playing against the players to be cut nt sure how much it means but he's a potential starter at either tackle spot. They have something in Wallace where he can contribute this year, Robinson needs time.

Not all doom and gloom upon tape review, lots of good blocking but 1 weak link can kill you.
This echoes what I was saying in the game thread… the line was largely playing OK and the issues were all related to a non-starter (Leverett), a probable non-starter who was forced into action (Robinson), and illegal formation silliness which was being taken to an extreme and won’t be an issue like this again. They were not playing at an all-star level but they were good enough.

Once you bring in David Andrews that does a lot. I personally also would put Onwenu back at RG, then play Wallace at RT until Lowe is healthy. Once he’s back then put Okorafor back at RT and Lowe back at LT, or just leave Wallace in place if he’s doing fine. The Sow injury is a concern… Jordan looked fine in relief though. They may get a decent piece or two in waiver claims also.

If I’m Kraft I demand Maye to start and to bring in 5 to 6 new lineman prior to week 1.
Maye is an investment longterm for Kraft. He has no interest in killing him behind this line. And there simply aren't 5-6 quality lineman to get two weeks before the season.

You are talking about trading next years first for anyone great to come here. And that won't plug all the holes.

ALL coaches get get overwhelmed. Becuase a coach has coaching experience does not always permeate to success. I didn't see it this way. Mayo seemed frustrated by the sloppy play and penalties. It happened plenty under Bill. It's pre season. Let's wait until week 6,7 to see...
I mean we never saw BB break a tablet or anything lol

No they don't.

All the OL penalties and mental errors are due to bad coaching. I don't ever remember seeing a display like that under any former Pats' coach. That was abysmal against 2 and 3 teamers. Guys running into each other, the QBs shoe off, constant pressure against backups. A lack of talent (GM problem) and a lack of execution (coaching problem).

I didn't think it would be this bad.

Lo
I mean we never saw BB break a tablet or anything lol
Lol... I remember that.. I don't anticipate the line. Being this dismal come week 1.. it was pretty much the Hollywood shuffle with the line.. all and all it's the preseason.. that's the time to evaluate and experiment. 3rd stringers against 3rd stingers... that is how it will look.

Not sure if they could have fielded a worse O line. The Pats should put in a waiver claim on every offensive lineman that gets released. They can't be as bad as the guy who were playing last night!

Please remember that the Pats were playing against the Redskins 2nd and 3 stringers last night! the Offensive line got trucked over and over again.

Nobody can play QB behind that line. At this point they would be better off starting Milton and running the Winged T offense.

What a disaster this year is going to be.
But really why did it take so long. We all knew from last year how bad it was.. All that tinkering with it with just a week left in the season, the Philly Pats joint training camps, etc all those are red flags. Mayo played his entire career (2008-2015) for the Patriots, he knew what a good offensive line looks like. Why did we keep pursuing diva WRs who don't want to be here, instead of putting more focus on the line. Are his hands tied by Elliot Wolf Mr "I am confident that our O-line is going to be just fine".

No they don't.

YES they do! That's not realistic to think coaches don't get overwhelmed.. all coaches do. Bill got over plenty last season... when I say overwhelmed meaning there is always pressure on a coach.. be it from ownership, the fan base, the media. They are human too they read the headlines they listen to the talk. Let mayo learn and continue to adapt.. on the OL your absolutely positively correct. Mental errors, no excusing that. They may not be talented but they are NFL professionals and are expected to be better than what they displayed. Furthermore it's the preseason. I can't fathom that the line will be this atrocious come week 1.

Sooooo, nothing to see here. Cool. Cool.

As usual your misreading my post. It's guys that probably won't even be here after tomorrow lining up on the O line.. that's not excusing them it's calling it what it is.. you put jags out there, you get jag things.

I'm actually glad they are enforcing the rules. Tackles have been lining up in the backfield for years now! It's pretty easy to stay on the line. Your helmet must cross the center's beltline. Hopefully they will flag Lane Johnson for a false start on every single snap!

The fact that the Pats were habitually breaking this rule, goes to coaching! It's not like the NFL didn't tell them this was coming.

You're still whistling.

Drafting Alt at #3 would have gone a long way to fixing this, or taking the Giants trade. They Maye pick just didn't make sense.

I respectfully disagree a top 10 QB is more valuable than a top 10 tackle.
Now my mid round binkie Rattler looks pretty good.
Drafting Alt at 6 drafting WRs and O line and taking Rattler in the fourth would of been a interesting approach.

Mayo is going to be a work in progress.
Shouldn't the guy entrusted to lead 53 players & 30 coaches (give or take) be much more than a "work in progress"?
This feels more like Single A / Instruction League football (except the O line coaches don't have an updated rule book to go by)
We knew that since he has never been a DC and led a group of coaches and players.
Thunder & Thunder JR are still responsible for Bill's hefty contract and their budget coaching choices reflect an organization controlled first and foremost by the bottom line.
I personally would not have chosen Mayo because I believe that prior HC experience is vital. I would have preferred Vrabel.
Empowering a former LB and a run-first OC to mold and elevate a blue chip QB is up there with BB assigning OC/OL responsibilities to his DC bestie.

I respect your opinion but I don't think that is it. Mayo to me seemed infuriated by the penalties the team displayed. Like players coaches have emotions too. We haven't played 1 meaningful game that counts yet. I will wait until we get deeper into the regular season before I say definitely wether or not his overwhelmed. Mayo's in charge of the 53, wolf has final say. They both work collectively. I have more concerns about the line than I do of the HC.
You are not totally wrong but at the same time Mayo can be infuriated by the penalties all he wants but thoses have happened all camp. Either Mayo hasn’t been strict enough about that or he didn’t care.

My feeling is that he lets AVP in charge of the offense and let him make all the decision offense related and now he is complaining that it’s not going like he wants to and often hide behind the fact that AVP is the HC of the offense.

He is the HC, at some point he needs to take matter in his own hands. I don’t think he is doing that enough on the offensive side of the ball.

I told all the over-reactors all last week - DO NOT move Onwenu to RT. It will open all kinds of other issues. Check!
Robinson is not ready, and the middle 3 OL need to be solid.
Okra can handle LT - he'll get his positioning malfunction figured out. And if Lowe is okay, let him continue there.
Wallace makes most sense to start wk 1 at RT. Lets just pray Sow is okay.
It think it will be a lot better by week 1 - just because they won't continue with this experiment where guys were not comfortable.
And, Captain Andrews will make sure of it!

If Lowe can play the line week 1 will be depending on Sow:

Lowe - Sow - Andrews - Onwenu - Okorafor

Or

Lowe - Robinson/Leverett - Andrews - Onwenu- Okorafor

Lowe - Sow - Andrews - Onwenu - Okorafor

Lardassian Lowe who has never had a good NFL game is now the savior. What does everyone think? This is the worst Patriot OL since __________?
