The front office did not try hard enough to make this a competitive team and too willing to accept a losing team in the short run.
THe commanders lucked out getting Jayden Daniels (which is huge), because he will be able to start right away and brings instant hope.

However, the owner also:

1. Hired the best GM out there
2. Hired an experienced top notch coach who is widely respected around the league
3. Signed some impact UFA's to help out their qb (e.g. Ekeler)

I’m beginning to realize this may be thr worst Patriots team I’ve ever seen since I became a fan in 1992. And they might win fewer games than the 2 that team did.

But…the year after that, Parcells came in and brought hope.

The real question is…if the team wins 2 or fewer games, will Kraft stand behind Mayo and Wolf, or will they be the sacrificial buffer hires between Bill and the guys who will actually lead the team next?

How many games lost would you say Mayo has to go after one season?

Or is there no circumstance that happens?

Look…the O line is horrific.

I can live with an awful season IF Maye develops, doesn’t get killed, and the team improves over the year.

But if it doesn’t look very different in December, not sure I’d like to see year two of this regime.
Mayo can't win without an OL.

If anyone gets blamed for a terrible season, it will be Wolf.

1. Milton is not an NFL QB! TE maybe
2. Zappe is done
3. Pats should consider signing Mike White
4. There are no fixes for this OL during the season, Wolfe blew it in FA by not getting an anchor for the line
Just a reminder that at OL, two of the top five players in FA were Trent Brown and Onwenu.

Cris Collinsworth was yuckin' it up on Milton's arm strength. The problem was he was using a flamethrower even on the passes that need touch. The sideline pass to Wallis, for example, could've been a completion if Milton wasn't drilling that pass. (FWIW, Wes Welker said Matt Cassel was doing the same thing in 2008.)

The team as a whole has promise. But the OL is absolutely crippling. Goals for the next year:
1. Maye stays healthy
2. Draft both LSU tackles

Just a reminder that at OL, two of the top five players in FA were Trent Brown and Onwenu.
And two other ex-patriots were in the top 10.

There is little reason to believe that our 4-10 team with no QB could have done much better.

For me, we are a 4-10 team with only aa few problems, all on the OL We do NOT have four solid OL's plus OK backups.

The biggest problem our Defense will have is that the Offense has them on the field for too long. Sure, we should look for upgrades as we look at the waiver list.
=====
On Offense, our QB's and receivers will develop. We are fine at RB, although I would add another.
=========
STATUS QUO (5 starters plus Robinson and Jordan)
Lowe is our best LT
Sow is our best LG (Jordan is the backup, perhaps OK until Strange is back)
Andrews is our center with no backup
Onwenu is our best RG (Robinson is an OK backup) and should not be playing RT
Wallace is our best RT (with no backup)
======
Okorafor and Leverett do not belong on the 53. Does Anderson?

AT MINIMUM
We need a backup center and a backup LT who can also backup at RT.

$$$$ sometimes matter to UFAs
Also something called the draft where perhaps at the top of the 2nd round an OL should be drafted?
We were competing with a lot of teams for OL's.

As far as the draft, we chose to draft a QB. Many posters believe that the OT's available were instant starters. Many of us don't believe that. And yes, some will turn out to be successes and others will not. Wolf judged that he could do almost as well in the top of the 3rd. I still believe that Wallace and Polk are both Year 2 starters.

It certainly is frustrating. But judging the draft poorly because we didn't solve all THREE major issues is going overboard.
==========
That being said, I agree that we certainly should have signed an additional LT. We counted on Love, Anderson and Okorafor to be 2 of our 3 LT's. I'm NOT talking about a solid starting LT. I'm taking about an OK backup who might be able to start. Okorafor was one of those players; we needed and need another.

I can't say anything about how the Patriots had OTs graded, but I can say that after Tyler Guyton at 29, the next OT off the board was Patrick Paul at 55. I don't know if they tried to move up to grab Guyton, but apparently they had a big enough difference between Polk and the next tier of OTs that they felt Polk's talent outweighed the need at OT.

This sounds promising to me, even though UNC's OL didn't play very well:

On last week, you mentioned just pre-snap, the tools at your disposal, especially to handle pressure and things like that, and how he feels like he’s come along in that area:

“Yeah, I think it’s huge in this offense, especially when we’re not out here in preseason with some vanilla looks, especially pressure-wise. I feel like I’m a smart kid. I did a lot of protection stuff in college. Me and my center, it was all on us protection-wise. I feel like we did a good job not having free runners back there, but it’s a different kind of league here now.
