Jaguar Mac Jones is about to embarrass the genius BB and his all star coaching staff [mod edit: he didn’t]

Now that he has good supportive coaching he will shine as Lawrence’s backup.
One of top 3 failings of BB as a coach of all time.
They gave him away for nothing.
Yeah man Mac is tearing it up...

Then the team that drafted him in the first round is a laughing stock.
Would love to really know who made that decision. Write a damn book already BB.

BB didn’t trade him.
Jones sucks. No one ever doubted he could complete passes against backups playing vanilla defense. He sucks he doesn’t understand the position and ****s himself when he does t have an easy read, and wide open receiver.

I don't think Mac sucks ... IMO he is a very capable backup if called upon.
He won't take that team to the promised land .... but IMO one of the better backups in the league.

Mac is probably comparable to Jacoby Brissett talent wise, maybe even slightly better

But the guy brings too much drama to the table... Individually you can overlook the histrionics when he sprained his ankle, the showing up coaches during the game, and the going out of house individually to consult coaches (while simultaneously signaling the media), but together these things show a pattern of not handling stressful situations with the command and calm you need from a leader and a franchise QB. It's as simple as that. Jones wasn't a good leader.

So why’d we trade him for almost nothing? New HC, new OC. No need other than a “change in scenery.” How’s that helpful to the Patriots?

I had no problem with picking Jones at 15 unless the Pats were offered a trade-up to get Parsons and turned it down. The other alternative was Mills and he’s not an NFL starter either. They’re not a laughingstock for picking Jones in the first round and it not working out. Happens all the time around the league.

Which is why it’s weird that Team Bill gets so defensive when someone says Bill drafted Jones. And he did.

A 6th rounder for a 4th year QB coming off 2 poor seasons and 5th year option already declined is fair imo

I love how a second quarter against scrub erases 3 years of evidence. Alibi it however you will.

Mac Looked great in yesterday's preseason game. 16-23 2 TD's no interceptions. It's only one preseason game (true) but
Amazing what a supportive and non backstabbing coaching staff can do to help a young QB. Joe has a real chance to develop with Pederson into a very good qb.
Maybe fences could have been mended if Bill hadn't thrown this kid under the bus so many times.
Another case of Bill's oversize ego ruining the team. Bill was a pric* with this kid and f'ed him up like he f'ed up the team.

I had advocated for keeping MAC as a backup QB for 24 and seeing how things play out in TC.
Might have allowed Pats to draft Joe Alt or Harrison or Malik Nabors. Or at a minimum been better competition for Maye than Brissett.

If somehow Lawrence goes down and Mac lights it up...it will be yet another huge black eye for "The greatest Coach of All time"
By the way..the greatest coach of all time will end up being "Andy Reid"

I am rooting for:
1. BB to never get the all time wins record
2. not be recognized as greatest head coach of all time
3. Not getting another HC job.

What he did ti the Patriots over the past 5 years was blatant malpractice and his incredibly poor judgment destroyed this franchise. Justice will be for him to not get another job,
I seriously doubt Mac will amount to much more than bench warmer. We have more than ample sample size to know he is inadequate.

This may put a nail in the coffin of BB ever being a HC again.

Yep. If every team plays the guys they released, and Lawrence and Beathard are injured all season, then Mac is going to tear it up. He will have an even bigger season if the Jags are allowed to play high school teams and count them toward the season. Boy, they really blew it letting Mac go. Almost as bad as the Jets getting rid of Zach Wilson.

More context, please.

Dan Marino would have had a poor season with Matt Patricia as his OC. And, most curious, also heaped on responsibility of being OL coach, assisted by ineffective Billy Yates. What was BB thinking, actually?

Get real. Sam’s boy Mac Brady ( as Sam affectionately calls him) is going to put Lawrence and Beathard on the bench, he will be a 1st team All Pro this season.

If Maye put up those numbers, just imagine the excitement.

Yeah, that’s the typical homer response given when I and others questioned Bill’s horrible drafting starting, in my mind, in 2015 with Jordan Richards in the second round when I showed video evidence of his lack of athleticism while at Stanford.

You must have missed 2023.

One got paid a ridiculous contract, the other was traded for a sixth-rounder.
Yeah, maybe having a franchise LT from the 2024 draft may have been more of a dire need than the franchise rookie QB the team is leery of playing. Cuz you know we need a starting LT.
Bump.

It was a terrible mistake but he was thinking he could put two guys in that had first hand knowledge of what Josh did. Obviously with hindsight he should have just scrapped the offense we ran for a decade in favor of basically anyone else to run whatever O they chose ours or something they brought with them.
