Jaguar Mac Jones is about to embarrass the genius BB and his all star coaching staff [mod edit: he didn’t]

Bill had to risk his job to play Brady. Without Bill Bledsoe retires a Patriot and Tom would win on another team.
Coaches risks their jobs every single week with every decision they make. You have zero evidence whatsoever to support the above contention. There were a lot of people who wanted to stay with Brady than go to Bledsoe.

Bill didn't choose Brady even after having him here for a year. He chose Bledsoe but he got hurt. And without Brady Bill is retired like Wrecks Ryan only without a playoff win.

Bill's problem wasn't his game time coaching. That was great. His problem was his ego.

Other than the fact that Kraft said it was the case...

This whole line of thinking is mind boggling. I’m not even sure where this thread could possibly go.

Patsfans.com mirrors society, I guess, when you get to a point where people believe these types of things and are passionate about arguing the validity of a HoFer’s career as HC.

It’s absurd to give Brady all the accolades and not view his amazing career as it was. Many times, he pushed the team to crucial wins in the toughest of spots. Many times, his teammates and coaching staff contributed immensely to the success.

I’m so glad I was a fan during the greatest seasons this franchise has enjoyed. But this constant back n forth between the two greatest seems misguided.
Yeah, I fall down that rabbit hole now and then. I need to work on that.

Bill had a choice between Brady and Bledsoe after Bledsoe returned from injury and he chose Brady. Kraft recently came out and stated if that had been wrong it would have cost Bill his job. This was all revealed by Kraft in that ten part documentary.

Oh so Bob Kraft knows what a completely hypothetical HC would have done during the Brady-Bledsoe debates of ‘01? Gimme a break.

I stand by my statement: 20 years of Tom Brady without Bill Belichick still produces some championships in New England. 20 years of Belichick without Brady doesn’t.

What are you even talking about? I think you might be projecting something on me that I didn't say. Kraft wasn't speaking to hypotheticals he was talking about what really happened here and how Bill risked his own job by going with Brady over Drew.

Now my own hypothetical not Krafts would be that Tom Absolutely wins without Bill just probably wouldn't have been here and might have taken a little longer to get a starters role but once he got it he'd have destroyed the league just the same.

I am not arguing that point, so for you to claim “Well Bob Kraft said so” is completely irrelevant. There were plenty of calls to fire Belichick before 2001. Tom Brady saved Belichick’s job. But yes, Belichick’s job depended greatly on the outcome of that season, and the outcome of that season depended greatly on the decisions involving the quarterback position.

I was a big Mac supporter, but he's still a mess mechanically, and that was a good portion of his problem here.

Even on this touchdown, he's completely flat-footed and it's all arm:

That one obviously worked out, but as we saw here, he has so many where it doesn't. Sort of surprised he hasn't improved in that regard given that coaching staff.

Granted, the big reason for failure here as others have mentioned was the lack of protection and lack of skill players, but I would say that being completely alienated by your head coach was the ultimate problem, and I don't feel like Belichick handled that part of things well. Hard to function at a high level in this league, especially as a young player, when the person who is supposed to support you is essentially indifferent.

But, aside from that, unless Mac goes the route that Brady did and locks in on his fundamentals, footwork, etc, outside of preseason, I feel like those things will ultimately come back to get him if he ends up starting at some point again.

And the rest is history. Bill parlayed that into being the greatest head coach ever and Brady became the greatest player in any sport ever.

I think you are being too harsh. BB's big failing was neglecting the offense and saddling Mac with an impossible situation because he had no one to throw to and had turnstiles for an OL.

After seeing all the screw-ups in this years pathetic Free Agency period, I have to wonder if ownership was the problem; maybe, probably, it was ownership that failed to keep Meyers or get a front line WRs.

Bad coaching hires was definitely a problem also for BB. Things have gone downhill since Scar left and no suitable replacement has been found. I also strongly suspect that Scar was behind some of the good draft picks at the OL position during the Glory Years.

Of course, we all know the the real reason for the Patriots decline was the retirement of Ernie Adams ;^)
Ernie's contributions should not be overlooked even a little.

Some days I wish the people that agonize over Brady and Mac would just find another forum. Those days are over. Why do we keep rehashing them? Is our New England psyche so warped that we can't embrace change and give our support to the team. Enjoy the suck, if that's what you think it is. Wallow in the mire of the current crop? If they actually get better, will you be able to deal with it?

Agreed. That absolutely buried any chance he had here. It’s like Bill took it as a personal insult that Jones didn’t adapt well to having MP and JJ coach him.

You give any NFL QB decent weapons and he is going to look competent. The truly great QBs can take the absolute trash that BBB saddled Brady with for most of his career and still do great!

I don't think personal insult is the right word but I think he definitely found it unprofessional that Mac never gave them a fair chance.

Even with all the experience that AVP has on offense compared to MP and JJ he'd be equally as screwed right now if his QBs expected him to be Josh McD from day one.

Every one of your threads further cements your status as one of this site’s worst posters. Please don’t feel obligated to provide us with more evidence. We’re already convinced.

And the rest is history.... Brady became the greatest player in any sport ever.
Hmmm, Bill Russell might argue that. If you judge a player by how much better he was then his peers, then I would vote for Bobby Orr, but his career was too short.

Mac's failure here was 1/3 on him, 2/3 on Belichick's pettiness, megalomania, and rage. I wish Mac well. As for Bill, thanks for the memories, but good riddance.

And last year proved how worthless it is to have the greatest HC of all time when the players suck.

Another wretched take.

You and Sam need to go to the same therapist.
