LG: Sow
C: Andrews
RG: Onwenu
RT: Wallace
Sow was running with the ones at RT by the end of preseason. He started every game he was healthy. That's not false, it's what happened. Sow played the third most snaps on the entire offense last year. When Onwenu came back Sow was out with a concussion... he didn't get "shuffled out."
He got moved from right tackle to guard because Strange and Onwenu missed game one. Mafi was the other guard in that game. They had an injury nightmare in week one. Trent Brown and Anderson played tackle because it was the best option available to them at that time. Sow came back from injury and they needed a guard at that time so he played guard.
They obviously believe Lowe is better.I wish the coaches had stuck with the Chucky - Wallace - Mister Anderson experiment/competition at Left Tackle like I thought we were told would happen… Instead, they’ve painted themselves into a corner by giving VDLow so many dam snaps there that they now have No Choice but to start him at LT vs the Bungles. I hope our starting QB passed the peripheral vision portion of his most recent eye exam…
We drafted Robinson because Mafi sucks big time. It is the simple. Not sure why we would have drafted Robinson in the 4th if moving Onwenu to RT wasn't on the table. Sow Andrews Robinson Onwenu could be 4/5th of a very good unit.
Didn’t say “better than Onwenu” at any point. As good as Onwenu is possible, Mike got benched in year two for Ted Karras because he had a bad stretch. Rookies have to develop and have peaks and valleys. You are correct.; I forgot about the concussion. Sow missed those games because of the injury.
But to say he won any tackle job is ridiculous. Sow was in a tryout and the preference was his development over jags like Lowe, McDermott, and whatever else there was. It was so bad, I think they had to move him to left tackle during a preseason game. They literally had no one else to play the position. Didn't Bill Murray even play a half at RT last year in preseason?
77% of Onwenu's snaps were at tackle in 2023. Sow is developing into a good guard, but he isn't better than Onwenu. So even though Onwenu is still not a good enough tackle to be permanent at that position (forget the crap about the interior line, tackles are more important) Sow isn't even trusted to get even one more look at tackle.
That doesn't sound like any player who won that job less than a year ago.
Yeah if Lowe is going to struggle I would rather go with the Rookie he can't be any worse. My Ideal rotation would be...Wallace-Sow-Andrews-Onwenu-Okofora
or
Wallace-Sow-Andrews-Robinson-Onwenu
or
Wallace-Sow-Andrews-Jordan-Onwneu
Onwenu can play tackle or guard, Sow can also, many great lineman can play both. Saying he can’t or failed was a figment of your imagination, they moved him to guard by necessity. Injuries happen…
They had injuries all across the board, they never stopped. Trent Brown at left tackle and Onwenu at right was the little consistency they had. Onwenu missed game one, so did Strange… it only got worse from there. Sticking a rookie at tackle at that point wasn’t smart. The point is “Sow failed” never happened. How was it necessity when Onwenu (coming back from injury) had to leave the position he excels at to play tackle, when Sow had supposedly won that job just a few weeks earlier?

"Good" is subjective, but here's the situation for Okorafor in PITI like it. Except for Chuks. You didn’t get the memo, did you? He doesn’t want to be bothered going over to the other side. Too much work making the switch.
Do you think Pittsburgh would have let him go if he were any good?
He played the last two preseason games with the starters at right tackle. Injuries changed the plan in week one. That’s not a failure. The Sow experiment, not Sow, failed. He should have never been put in that position.
With our tackles as miserable as any in the league, the team would rather move a better guard (I'm saying it) to tackle, than continue the Sow experiment into this training camp.
If he won the starting job last year, which is the original discussion, they would at least have given Sow a look at tackle in camp.
