Maye must play

I guess I just wonder in which way he’s not ready. He was really executing the offense brilliantly out there. His throws were beautiful and he was handling pressure very well. I didn’t see any issues with confusion or not knowing what to do or anything like that. He got through his reads perfectly fine and quickly. So what’s left to be learned? I’m not necessarily arguing for him to play, I just don’t know. He looks NFL ready to my novice eye.
He was also playing against #2's who aren't running the full eagles defense. It's all bar cover, play your man. Individual skill drills. He def needs more time to develop

I’d like to see Maye play with Thornton, he’s gotten behind the defense numerous times and Brissett has under thrown him repeatedly. I suspect Maye would put it out ahead of him and make him go get it.

We saw him play two quarters against a vanilla defense full of back ups. We have no idea what the coaching staff sees in practice.

How many preseason superstars go on to be out of the league faster than an entire preseason schedule?

He could be ready. But who knows? I do know that the starting offensive line got eaten alive during scrimmages with the Eagles this week and Maye got sacked more than he completed passes in the last scrimmage. The oline wasn’t awful for him tonight. They might be in the regular season. We don’t need him to get shell shocked like Mac did last year.

Talking OL minus the LT because we know that’s a massive sh**show. Also saying that if Lowe is our starting LT, I’m just gonna start prepping for the draft. Hopefully one of Robinson or Wallace prove capable of taking the starting G or RT position at some point this season and into next offseason. Onwenu can handle the other spot. Draft a LT and the OL will take a step forward.

LT: 2025 1st Rounder
LG: Sow
C: Andrews
RG: Onwenu/Robinson
RT: Wallace/Onwenu

He’s 21 with a lot to learn. I like what I saw tonight, but no need to rush him. Let’s see how the oline settles in against other teams starters. If everything looks stable I say between game 4 - 8 we get him in.

Is the expectation we don’t play him until he’s 100% ready?

Why are we as fans becoming such helicopter parents with the guy? Let him get dirty. If he gets dinged up, rest him a little more than you normally would. But he needs his reps.

Like this thought. Let things play out and expose whatever level of play exists, for better or worse, then go from there

This isn’t Mahomes sitting behind Alex Smith on a playoff team, Rivers behind Brees, Rodgers behind Favre, Love behind Rodgers, or anything like that. What’s the precedence for a QB sitting behind a guy like Brissett who, respectively, is terrible?

I think there’s some benefit to starting Brissett to begin with. Let the OL and WR depth charts shake themselves out some in real game action. And honestly, set the bar low so that if Maye and the team struggles it isn’t seen as an indictment of his own place specifically. But I’d like to see them get him in there probably by week 9. Sooner if he proves ready.

I'm just really really hoping Thornton figures it out this year...

Maye is looking more comfortable under center, commanding the huddle, pointing out blitz pickups, being able to audible out of bad looks. If he’s ready you play him, if he’s not you don’t. This isn’t hard.
Biscuit looks horrible for a supposedly crafty vet: he couldn't even move the Team against a Second Team.

Looks ready to me, why hold back his development?
AJ you already said it we picked up a QB who's worse than the previous 10 the stats don"t lie. Biscuit also have a noodle arm.

I hope Maye gets equal snaps when the Team is preparing for Cincinnati.

He's wild, his mechanics are still terrible and he's playing against back ups and looking average except that he's quick to run. Other than that, sure he's ready.
This take doesn't make any sense to me

He is playing with backups, on a team with no depth, against a Super Bowl contender with depth. His mechanics are fine, what do you think is wrong with them? BTW, many people still say some of the worst mechanics in the league belong to Patrick Mahomes, maybe he's not ready? Please Google the 800 articles on how they need to fix Mahomes mechanics. Mechanics is a catchall phrase that is completely meaningless for NFL QB success. I posted the data already, we can stop about the mechanics, it's just bad take.,

Looking Average? Name 10 Qb's that consistently make the 3 throws he made last night? The second read 20 yards in the air in cut, the deep bomb and the touch pass down the sidelines?
Mahomes, Allen, Stafford, Herbert for sure, then a few maybes but probably not anyone else and Maye made those same throws consistently in college and it took basically 3 quarters to see him do it again as a pro. He's making throws only ALL-Pro QB's make in his second exhibition game. That is FAR from Average, the average NFL QB these days cannot make those throws.

BTW, you do remember his competition is Jacoby Brissett, right?

Mayo already said he'd be the starter week 1. Let's see if he is telling the truth.

“If Drake beats out Jacoby, he earned that role,” Mayo said. “And we don’t really take (the offensive line) into consideration when he’s ready ready to go ... if he’s better than Jacoby, then he’ll play; he’ll start.”

Of course, you don't understand. His throws are perfect, he makes all the right reads, he's like Mahomes just a little unorthodox with his arm angles and where he has his feet are when throws but he has better results than Brissett so he should start. Hey, you can only play against who you are up against. And the coverage has been dialed up you know. There are no ghosts. So yeah, I get why you don't understand so I'll start working on those 800 articles right about n

The deal is, there is nobody in front of him that is preventing him from playing today. They took him #3 overall for a reason. Mac Jones played when he was the 15th overall pick. There’s no excuse.
And Mac Jones failed and leaned into bad habits that he never overcame because he had to compensate for the team not being good.

The goal is making sure Maye is comfortable with NFL level speed, can read and assess defenses accurately and has solid funamental mechanics before he goes out there. And frankly with our team, a young QB is more likely to get overwhelmed and lean into bad habits and get them ingrained the rest of their career. Which is the biggest issue with starting guys early.

Teams that are scared of their fans and feel like they have to trot someone out before they are ready are usually the teams that end up struggling with finding their QB. Patriots fans turned into Browns really fast instead of fans of winning teams that understand the value of getting the QB right and opening up a window. It's weird. Especially when the last great Pats QB was a guy who literally sat for a year.

Wild? What do you mean by “mechanics” and don’t you fix those with repetition? How do you expect “quick to run” to change without playing?
Who care if he is average now, are you expecting Brissett to be more than that and are you expecting the difference in the record that would make to really matter?
If Maye plays average or even poorly at times this year big plays, he will have progressed through the learning curve and gained valuable experience to make him a better QB for next year. I’m not sure why people want him to not get experience

And Mac Jones failed and leaned into bad habits that he never overcame because he had to compensate for the team not being good.
That’s a myth.
