Report: Patriots working to trade Matt Judon to Atlanta (Update: Deal is done)

I haven't read the whole thread, so forgive me if these points have been mentioned or there's been news already that I've missed. Just a couple thoughts:

1) The missing piece of this from my perspective is now about what Atlanta does with his contract. If they do nothing, and he plays happily and productively for the year, it'll make me question why they couldn't make it work like that here. Similarly, if they give him a small bump, I'll wonder the same. If they go and sign him to a big 4 year deal near the top of the market, I'll say okay, that would have been a risky move for a rebuilding team. It'll probably be somewhere in the middle, but it's an important detail to sort out before fully judging the trade.

2) Don't think of the 3rd rounder as the thing to compare to Judon. They're not likely to find a Judon level player there. It's more about having another potential trade chip, and getting something for a guy that wasn't going to be part of your long term plans.

Terrible trade; they should have redid his contract. The Patriots cut the heart and soul out of the team. Anyone who has been to practice could see what a great person he was. The cheapskate Patriots drove another nail into their coffin.

He was old and susceptible to injury. They did the right thing.

Anyone who thought this team was going to be competitive in the next 3 years have only them self to blame for that expectation because it's not based on reality.

What?!?! Judon was picked in the 5th round. We BETTER get someone like him in the 3rd round because it seems to be wicked ****ing easy to draft Pro Bowlers.

May, might, could, yeah. But at least you knew the production with Judon. Anyway, c'est la vie, guess you can't wait for Day 2 of next year's draft.

We didn't know what we we would get out of him. We don't even know if he would of made it out of September.

Also, judon could have 17 sacks and a 100 tackles and this team is still finishing in the bottom 5.

Good return on the trade. Very BB- ish.

Hopefully White can step in and give the team some of what Judon did when he was healthy

This Team is obviously not committed to winning with this move another Top 5 selection coming up. Teams like us usually win on Draft nights allegedly. This was a Gutless move.

Zappe isn’t an NFL qb (either)

Jones was the biggest problem, by far. Why you would think anyone ever commented about any player meaning that they were the only problem and the rest of the team was perfect is bizarre.

Coaching was the biggest problem by far and it manifested itself on the field.

You'll are going to in for a rude awakening minus a 15 sacks guy. Gonzo won't look like a shut down CB with that Defense minus Barmore and Judon. It looks like our Brass already conceded the season looking at the schedule let the rebuild continue a sucky season coming up.

I would never say moving a good player is a gutless move. May not end up working out for them long term, but they weren't so afraid of Matthew Judon that they had to move him. They couldn't agree on a deal, Judon acted out. They were able to smooth it over behind the scenes but clearly the contract issue was still at an impasse. Judon did the right thing showing he was a team player back at practice, and the Patriots honored what was likely a request from him (pay me what I believe I'm worth, or trade me).

It's unfortunate, but not everything has to be framed as some inherent character flaw by someone involved.

Finishing dead last in the Division won't bother some of you ok. Teams are going to pour it on.

Not at all what I said. But I think you know that.

Not playing your third overall pick is gutless.

Trading a player in the last year of his deal, coming off major surgery, who you do not want to pay for a third round pick?

That's how you keep the production line going.

10 out of 10 move.

Coaching?? You need Good Players to coach up sady there aren't many on this Team. Mayo pressers are going to suck poor guy not a good way to start. Football is not going to be fun around here anymore. With Judon we would have a Defense that can compete guys like him don't grow on trees. Hope the Third Rounder turn into a Hofer we have already punted on the season. I hope the season ticket holders make Kraft pay.

I was talking about the coaching over last couple of seasons not the one coming up. It was abysmal. And dysfunctional.

This season the coaching staff is green just like our new QB. Nobody knows what they'll be like. It is refreshing to hear more candor than a guy who doesn't want to be there grunt one word answers and awkward silence.

I didn't think the last couple of years were much fun, doubt it can get any worse than that. Judon was also on the field for 47-17, not sure I'd call that "competing". Last season without Judon we win 4 games, if we had him what do we win...5?

We just got a potential top 70 pick for a guy that may have two good years left lol.
Just curious but how many good years does a 3rd pick usually get on average?

Or even how many years does pick 65-70 get on average?

This will be our new Slogan "has Team so and so punt yet??" You'll are not seeing the ramifications of this move just wait. I gotta admit I thought AJ was being overly critical about the new regime. After this move he's 100% right about what he said. Again thia gutless move from a gutless Team misery loves company.

I can't imagine a scenario where Maye is on the bench the whole year. I'm confident he'll step in there for good sometime this season.

You only have your self to blame if you thought this season was going to be anything other than a unmitigated disaster.

I am of the belief that if a rough start ****s your entire career trajectory than you was never good enough to begin with.

Id play him the whole season personally.
