So he doesn't really have a no trade clause. If a team trades for him, he can't block it. But that team would be stupid to do so without his sign off because without a new contract he's just going to hold out for them instead of the 49ers.
That’s why Schefter called it “unofficial”.

Also, could the team that traded for him franchise him in 2025? If not, then that’s why no team will trade for a player like that.

Players become available in trade, circumstances change.

Again, teams usually cling to their franchise LT’s almost as closely as they do their franchise QB’s. Trent Williams is the last one I can think of that was traded, and that’s at least 3 years ago.

The draft will still be the most likely place for them to get their LT, it just may not be a first round prospect, which is one reason I’m not so high on trading away their 2nd round pick for Aiyuk. I would rather see them stand pat, see how their young WR’s work out, keep their picks, then sign a WR in free agency, and draft another LT.

I wonder if this has been in the works for a while and is actually what’s stalling Judon’s contract extension? probably don’t want to extend Judon until you know what you have to pay Aiyuk… the Judon contract issue is too strange for it just to be about money.

Regardless, I promised myself I’m not going to get excited about this…
They have 43 mill. They extended Godchaux

Imagine if Aiyuk is traded. The 49ers will absolutely not win the Super Bowl next year and even open the door for Detroit or my darkhorse Green Bay. My 49ers once thought Aiyuk was nothing to worry about, is no sweating and pissed off.
The 49ers haven’t won the super bowl with him.

Aiyuk has 393 yards and 1 TD in nine playoff games… he disappears like David Blaine in the playoffs because, again, nothing special.

Id think they technically could, but i wouldn’t imagine a team going through with the trade without having already ironed out the extension with aiyuk’s people.

There are players like Randy Moss, Brandin Cooks or Stefon Diggs that you can trade for and don’t have to pay. They’re playing on their current contract.

I’m against trading for a player you also have to pay and make one of the highest paid players in the league. See the difference?

If I have to pay said player I shouldn’t have to give up a first or 2nd, I should pay a 4th, 5th or 6th because the team trading him simply wants to dump salary or can’t afford to pay him.
Moss was traded for in 07 and got a new deal in 08. Cooks was traded for in 2017 and got a new deal in 2018. Diggs was traded for for in 2020 (already on a big deal) and then signed another deal in 2022.

All of these guys are going to require a new deal within a year of being traded for so what is the difference. You trade and pay or you trade and pay a year later. Either way they are going to cost you.

The 49ers used a 1st on Rickie Pearsall, who is a really good prospect.
SF also has the two rookie WRs
Yes but I am comparing their 2023 roster to what the Pats would have with Aiyuk on their 2024 roster. The common claim is that "Aiyuk benefitted from the other players on SF's roster". So I am comparing those other guys that Aiyuk played alongside last year to the guys he would play alongside in NE. No sense in adding newly drafted players that Aiyuk has never played with.

Williams was an unusual situation where the team doctors botched a lump on his head they thought was a cyst for years, but turned out to be cancerous. He never played for Washington again after having to miss the 2019 season.

Can we trade for Trent Williams instead? At least he’s a position of need.

I like you. But I guess, I’d still say the SF groupings are far superior. Having said that - even if NE’s was 80% of the top choice - I’d be elated.
Yeah I am not trying to say that they are equal, but I also don't think there's a huge divide.

Deebo is better than Pop, but by how much? Will Baker be better than Ray-Ray McCloud? I'm going to optimistically say yes. Kittle is better than Henry, but Henry is still pretty solid. Hooper is a better TE2. McCaffrey is the NFL premier RB1 but has injury issues. Is Stevenson WAY worse than McCaffrey? He's still a damn good back. And we all hope Maye will be as good as Purdy.

Combining all of the above, adding Aiyuk in, can the NE skill positions be 80% as good as SF's was in 2023? It doesn't seem so far fetched.

I think the main reason why they won’t win the Super Bowl is because of their offensive line’s inability to protect within the inside of the pocket. This has been a problem for years even when Jimmy was there. Shanahan has refused to address this.

He gets hurt, he plays like a RB playing receiver. On a per play basis he is still dangerous.

Teams have to account for him, Kittle, have to account for CMC and whether he is going to run or flex outside and play WR. Nobody is changing their gameplan for Aiyuk. He’s not that dynamic or that great an athlete. He’s wildly overrated…

Over the past two season, Aiyuk was more of a threat to opposing defenses than Samuel especially last year. And yes, people had to gameplan for Aiyuk.

He was seventh in receiving yards (would have been sixth if DJ Moore didn't have one fluke 230 yard game. He was second in yards per reception. He was 8th in first downs for a receiver. Is he a top 5 WR? No. Is he top 10? Yes.

Neither Moss or Cooks got a new deal from us. They were rentals whose contract was locked in. Diggs forced the Texans to void the rest of his contract so he’d become a free agent, all they’re paying is his salary.

There’s a big difference. You trade for a player then pay him you’ve paid twice for the same player, it’s bad business.

Ross: Pop will be Elite this year he'll put up 1,000yds with or without Aiyuk the Offense starts through Pop he's uncoverable.

Wozzy said so so the answer is no.

Expending valuable resources on a player like Aiyuk at this stage of the team's development would be a mistake, IMO. The Patriots have young WRs to develop and shoring up the OL should be a priority.

I don't know how it is any different than if you use a 2nd round pick on a receiver and have to pay him 3 years in. You use a pick on a guy, then you pay him. That is how it works either way.

So trading Aiyuk and plugging the rookie Pearsall in won’t affect them at all. They know this, which is why they’re trying to scam someone into trading a high draft pick for Aiyuk.

With no Bourne at practice…could the 49ers be having a private workout with him?
