Celtics 2023 - 2024 Discussion

LMAO. I'm drunk( I NEVER get drunk,it's been many, many months) but I'm home sick with some nasty bug and couldn't do my usual 3-4 hour workouts so I got drunk cuz I'm pissed that I can't.
But you just made me laugh., so whatever the **** you said, I like it.
Have another drink on me. I will pay you back later.

For statistics to be valid, the number of events is important. The number of events is independent of the total number of events. The variance determines the number of events required. The greater the variance the more vents required for statistical relevance.

Statistical relevance is not related to total number of possible events.

You can perform % of a whole at any time.
There have been five games including exhibitions. The plus/minus I posted was an exclamation point on the observations, not the argument itself. I don’t know if you’ve watched Team USA. Steph getting burned on defense and being limited in that offense isn’t an advanced analytics take. LeBron being a black hole on offense, and also getting wrecked on defense, isn’t either.

Agreed. Those are not stats, but valid (great) observations. With small sample sizes, like 10 games or less, observations are more important than stats. 15 or 20 games in, the statistical anomalies start to cancel out and observations become more difficult to remember and correlate, so stats become powerful.

What I'm seeing that doesn't look right to my eyes is that Tatum seems to driving to the hoop every time he gets the ball and never pulling up for a jumper. He hasn't really shot many 3's either. Is this coaching or is it his decision? I also saw him repeatedly rubbing his thigh one the sidelines. Is it possible that he's hurt?

Saw that, too.

Might be why he was given the prior game off. Who knows?!?

Kerr wasn't that smart when he decided to bench Tatum and Haliburton. Benching Tatum must be payback for the 140-88 spanking the Celts gave to the Warriors back in March. Petty on his part. Looking at this move gives me even more of an eyebrow raise as to why Brown was left off the team. You have to wonder if this is all Kerr's doing.
It seems like the rest of the NBA and the mediots are trying to derail this Celtics team.

Would have been great to see a US Basketball 3X3 team with Jaylen Brown, Donovan Mitchell, and Tyrese Maxey. Just saying…

Also would be cool if they do a 1X1.
Apparently you have to accrue points in a 3X3 league to make the Olympic teams. NBA players can't do that.

Almost like how the league and media treated the Patriots after they established themselves as top dawg

Disrespect makes these guys play better though. Bring it on

On another note, I think we have to start considering where the Celtics’ starting five ranks in all-time NBA history

if you base it on which team has the best worst starting player, they’re the best team in modern basketball history. Not that it’s standard to use that as a measuring stick but still cool to realize this.

There is an interesting question, who is the worst Celtics starter? Considering Brown’s transformation, there’s really no easy answer.

I guess you’d say Ange from the ‘86 team. The Lakers the following year would be up there too

According to Steve Kerr and Grant Hill, it is either J Brown or Porzi.

I'll take that any time

That is why we won the championship. S Kerr and G Hill are clueless while Brad runs circles around them. It is very obvious at this point. S Curry as a starter? Ridiculous.

He’s afraid to cut the minutes of his own guy. It’s obvious.

It’s hard to really make a Celtics pecking order out of the Olympics. Tatum and Brown are great players, but their skill set is similar most modern NBA stars. I’m not being anti-Jaylen here. Whether it was Mitchell, Lillard, Maxey, Young, or anyone like that, White is the best fit.

The real variable here is that the US really doesn’t have many real point guards who look to pass first, don’t turn the ball over, shoot efficiently, and play great defense. Surely, you’d think, Jrue Holiday and Derrick White, can’t be the only American players who are elite at these things, but they essentially are, or at least they’re the only ones who are elite. Halliburton is kinda like them but not at their level. He’s a better pure scorer but trails in everything else. It’s amazing the Celtics just happen to have both of these guys.

The fact that so many people refer to White and Holiday as “role players” just tells you how far away from classic basketball - and into offensive playmaking - people have gotten. Neither one of these guys are “role players” in any sense of the word. They don’t really create shots off the dribble (nor do they try to)…that’s the only reason they get that label. Pressure defense, running the offense, distributing and protecting the ball, moving around the perimeter for an open shot: that used to be the standard job description for a point guard.
