Bedard today:

Caeden Wallace lost a close battle to Uche, drew with Anfernee Jennings, beat John Morgan and Keion White. Pretty good day for the rookie. And didn't look out of place in team at left tackle.

…Get through 2024 without getting Maye killed, …
That’s easy. Keep him on the bench.

That’s an easy choice as long as he keeps being inconsistent and making rookie mistakes. Reportedlybtoday was his worst day yet, so he’s helping with that decision.

Wallace flipping to LT might be one of the key positions to watch in training camp. If he can make the transition to be even an average NFL LT, that would do a lot to stabilize the rest of the line. It's a lot to put on a rookie who played on the right side his whole college career because Fashanu was just so good.

I'm taking the long view here. I expect poor play at tackle early, but improvement as the season progresses (something key that was missing the past two years). I hope to head into next offseason knowing who four out of five starters will be. I don't care which four, or where Onwenu is playing.

Wallace settling in as an average LT would be the greatest gift this season could give us. That would mean we enter the offseason with five set starters, or four starters with a much more manageable hole at RG/RT.

It's the biggest position battle or focus in camp imo. We know everything, eventually Maye will start. The rookie wrs will emerge bc they're the best we have at that position imo. This is the biggest question on the team by far. We took and looked at several WRs > T with our 2nd. So this is big for our fo who has also spent on iol the past few years. Those decisions should be of focus this year and reevaluated in the offseason.

Wolf's First Five picks looks like they will contribute: we know that Hitting on Three picks in any Draft is a success. A quick way to build a competitive Team.

C Wallace looks the Part he couldn't play LT in College for obvious reasons and would if there was an injury. That's Good Scouting from our Organization to get him in the Third after the run on Offensive Tackles. A lot of Good Offensive Tackles in the League weren't First Rounders you have to do your homework on some of them and sometimes it pays off.

Yep and if he looks like he can be at least passable at LT then suddenly our 2025 top 10 pick choice can be more flexible.

The domino effect is big here.

OL is probably the only position you don't have to "win" at rather survive. So passable is acceptable esp when you have an athletic QB like Maye.

Passable would be a godsend of epic proportions with where we're at rn in terms of just hoping it's not a disaster.

If Wallace balls out this year, I still say grab a T with the first pick along with maybe a C next draft...
I agree. Wallace looks like he is doing well at LT. If successful at LT, Wallace would be an amazing RT and let's draft a top LT next year. I still think J Andrews will be a good Center when he starts playing again. If we have Sow, Onwenu, Andrews, Wallace and and a top LT, that would be amazing for Maye.

I hope they sign Judon. With Barmore, Judon, and Keion White plus a new OL, the team might be half way decent next year.

Hell No! if he's good at LT leave him there gotta maximize the great Draft value. Strengthen a weaker position with the pick...what if we could Draft the next Judon?? Hmmmmm.

Remember Matt Light many Scouts didn't think he could play LT on the Pro Level ask Brady how he felt about him protecting his blind side. My point if Wallace wins the LT job it's his job to lose if he plays horribly. On Jake Andrews he hasn't shown anything to say he's more than a back up: Michael Jordan is ahead of him at Center. Jake Andrews should be a sure PS candidate Centers like RB's are a dime a dozen.

That is not true

Because J Andrews is injured. You compare to injured players? Lol

Centers are not a dime a dozen. Silly comment.

I don't nitpick much One-if but I remember your comments after the picks they weren't good. I know you liked the Maye pick but you didn't like the others especially the Two Offensive Lineman. Glad you're changing your Tune the Wolf will be GM of the year.

I suspect that team views it just slightly differently.

They might think that if rookie Wallace is doing well and is successful at LT, he might continue to get better and be our LT for the next 10 years.

Solid starting LT's are extremely difficult to find in free agency or reliably in the draft.

Even if Wallace is our starting LT in 2024 and 2025, we would still need a RT and a swing OT in 2025.
======
As an aside, if Wallace succeeds at LT, I would expect us to draft a defensive player with our first pick in 2025.

After the draft I stayed I prefer BPA over drafting for need. I believe that All Pros, as opposed to good players, are critical to winning championships. Therefore I did not like the Pats approach for the most part.

If you remember I said Polk reminded me of a "more athletic Meyers". Today posters were talking about Polk being similar to Meyers but more athletic. Exactly what I said after the draft.

Wallace switching to LT is a tall order. If he can do it that would be great but not likely. Drafting Robinson when we have Onwenu and Sow, while we have no FS, seems foolish to me. How many guards do we need?

But I like Maye, Polk, Wallace, and Baker. Let's hope Baker does not go the way of Jack Jones. But I would have preferred BPA in most of those spots.

But you do you. Keep misrepresenting what other posters say. That is one thing you are good at. Work to your strength.

One-if you always say the nicest things.

The interior and run game look good because the interior blocking is good. It looks shaky in pass protection because the edges at tackle are shaky. None of these tackles are going to be dominant, the most we can hope for is a bandaid until next year's draft and free agency.

They need to give up on Lowe already, the guy doesn't have it... he sucks. Chuks is what he is, maybe not better than Lowe... we'll see.

Hope at tackle lays in Calvin Anderson, Caedan Wallace, Zuri Henry and the kid they brought in today Kellen Diesch. There's a reason to be concerned about the tackle position in 2024, this is a big unknown and there's no stud rookie sitting there waiting to develop.
