John Henry: Fan expectations are unrealistic

Who would have thunk it.

There was a time where they were more popular than the Patriots. Even after NE won the first two titles.
The thing I think is interesting is the roster construction and philosophy for each of the 4 championship teams were completely different from each other, showing how many different ways a champion can be put together.

This isn't just not wanting to spend, it's a lack of creativity and an arrogant belief that fans will continue to flock to the park and their TVs because of past success.

I bled Red Sox growing up in the 80s and 90s. I faithfully listened every night through some absolutely horrible seasons. Like all of us I later basked in the glory of championships finally won and bonus ones tacked on later.

I'm sure part of it is I have changed. But man it just seems nowadays like no one in the organization gives a ****. If you believe that as a fan, you stop caring yourself. Being a true baseball fan takes up way more of your time than any other sport. Time is valuable, I for one won't waste it.

Again, wake me up when the team is sold.

At the game tonight. Rockies are kicking their ass. No playoffs for you!!!

From probable buyers to potential sellers in barely a week.

That's what happens when you lack consistent power bats on both sides of the plate.

Somewhere, John Henry is smiling...

Bad roster building and poor pitch selection cost them the game last night. 2 or 3 times the Sox pitchers were ahead of the Rockies 0-2 count in critical situations. The Sox pitchers promptly served up a meat ball. Why give the worst team in baseball anything to hit when you are ahead 0-2 in the count??!!

Also not having a competent closer on the roster that can compete at elevation. Sox had a 2-run lead in extras. They knew the schedule over a year ago and didn't have a substitute for Jansen??!! Did they not realize until yesterday that he couldn't make the trip??!!

You're unrealistic in your expectations of the team.

I know I am a little late to the party, but watching the playoffs with all the former Sox really frost me. Guess I have unrealistic expectations.

Did I mention how much I hate John Henry?

Y'know who I want to see swim with Great Whites is Sam Kennedy. Corporate lackey

Red Sox have been more successful than the Bruins and Celtics. 4 titles shouldn't have a guy this hated.

What nobody has brought up is how in the hell did the best position player in baseball- Bobby Witt, who grew up a Red Sox fan in Mass., get passed over?
And he's very young. Better than Judge.

LMAO, tell me you're not from New England without saying you're not from New England.

I'm not. But one team has won four titles. Another (Bruins) has massively underachieving. Titles is all that matters.

Not here it isn't and the Bruins actually overachieved winning the one they did. You definitely aren't from here

Henry should be beloved, you are correct. Saved Fenway, made it nicer to a certain extent. Ended the curse, 4 times.

But...

Runs the team like a small market outfit. Look around the playoffs this year, 19 former Red Sox in the playoffs. Refuses to pay the stars, tries to control the message and feed us pink hat bullchit all while Sweet Caroline plays, down by 6 runs. Charges a premium ticket price for a less than premium product, then has the audacity to say we have unrealistic expectations. I have no problem paying a premium for a premium product. This? Nope, no way.

No sir, he's not getting my money. Not. One. Dime.

I'll watch in-person, a little league game, pony league game, babe ruth game, HS game, women's softball game at any level, wiffle ball game, minor league game, independent league, college games, all of the above on tv, waaaay before I would find myself in Fenway.

Same. Minor league baseball... family of 4, with beers and hot dogs, less than $100. Sign me up.

Pats fans aside, 20 years of being at or near the top of the hill has skewed the outlook of half the fanbase, New England fans are realistic. We get other organizations are playing to win too and often times they get it 'more right' than our teams. What we expect is that our teams are at least trying to get to the top of the hill, that they are in it to win it. As a group we are fairly knowledgeable about our teams and pro sports conditions, this is a pro town and we pay consistently high prices for that priviledge . An owner here can not piss on our heads, tell us it's rain and get away with it for any length of time with the lion's share of this fanbase. It's one thing to field a team built to be competitive that doesn't get there and another to knowingly field a non competitive team while telling us it is.

I take as many of the grandkids as are interested to at least one Sea Dogs game a year. A great time is had by all and even with my grandfatherly indulgence in overdrive it doesn't break the bank.

Didn’t watch one game the past two seasons. Not one.

Every time I see Mookie Betts on the highlight reels make me feel ok about it.
