Thread: Will the Patriots carry 4 QBs on the roster to start the season?

Thread: There's a chance Zappe starts over Brissett

Of all the various statistics to compare, this one sticks out beyond all others in regards to what this team wants and needs.
Career Interception %:
Jacoby Brissett: 1.4%
Bailey Zappe: 3.9%

Brisset also tops Zappe in other categories such as passer rating, QBR, sack rate, adjusted yards per attempt, success rate, net yards per attempt and adjusted net yards per attempt. These are all useful statistics compiled from the largest possible sample size, their full NFL careers. In other words it's a better gauge than what may unfold in a meaningless preseason game or two.

Perhaps you are indeed not a Zappe apologist - but from my perspective based on your posts and threads, you certainly appear to be actively rooting for him to be the starter over Brissett.
Great stuff as usual. I'll say this. If somehow, someway Zapp ever ended up starting for this franchise again then we are much worse off then I could possibly have imagined. Wolf said emphatically that we weren't talented enough at QB to win in the NFL. Heck Jonathan was even caught on camera saying so.

The only person going forward down the line that should be, and will be starting is Drake. Most of us understand that Brissett likely will be the starter while Drake is progressing. Zapp is likely at this point a camp body and will either be cut or traded as Mayo's already said he wants to get down to 3 QBs by camps end.

Zappe is getting cut and then brought back to the PS after he clears waivers, same as the last two years.

He ain’t starting. (Period)
Most likely scenario.

Pats are more likely to lose Milton to a waiver claim than Zappe if they intend to have one of them on the PS.

If Zappe has improved so much that he can get starts while the team waits for Maye to be ready - then the team must look for a trade partner for him right away.

That's what they should have done a couple years ago after the Lions game. His value will never be higher than it was then.

Zippy didn't play much after that game.
he was cut the following preseason for any team to sign for free.
his "value" would have been the same as after that Lions game.
not a single team was interested

That is correct, it was also reported he had a terrible camp last season.. although telling people he is better, and will be the starter. Kid has some balls I'll say that, but he is what he is.. I back up somewhere in the league.

Agreed, and that would make the most sense. I've also said if that every happened where he somehow became a starter then we are much, much worse than I imagined.

It was before the deadline so they could have put him on the block if they wanted. I think some team would have overpaid to take a shot with him. Not much was known about him at the time other than he was 2-0.

What happened after that of course destroyed any value he had. Interesting that the Bears players themselves didn't think he was that good based on what they were saying after the game.

Agreed 100%. I said at the time he was picked in the draft if he ever becomes a starter for this team then things went very wrong for the Patriots at the QB position and well.. that happened and things have gone that way.

Yes! Unfortunately we had to bare witness last season. I know it's just a poster putting out a what if.. but that's a nightmare scenario for us.. would have to mean Brissett is washed up.. and Drake forgot how to drop 50 yarders to guys.

Now hear me out: Zappe could start over Brissett.

There are a few prerequisites to believing this might happen. You must believe or accept:
  1. 1. Mayo's claim that QB1 is up for grabs (but not for the rookies).
  2. 2. Either the Pats are going with 4 QBs OR that Milton is going to the PS.
  3. 3. The Pats will not start the season with Maye (or Milton) as QB1 or QB2.
  4. 4. Zappe can outplay Brissett in the preseason.
Now, I'm no Zappe apologist, but I'm also not a hater. I suspect the gap between Zappe and Brissett is small enough such that it's possible that Zappe outplays him in the preseason. I admit it's not likely, but man, it sure would be entertaining to see the heads of Zappe haters exploding if Zappe lights it up and Mayo starts him as QB1, true to his word.

Hear Me out My Wife and I will have a three way with Sydney Sweeny

There are a few prerequisites though

1.) the world is ending
2.) we're the only three people left alive
3.) I have developed a magic potion that makes me as delusional as the zappe fanatics
4.) Tom brady wrote me a glowing review to give to sydney to convince her.

Any Sydney Sweeney mentions should come with a photo.

Zappe is the one going to the PS if anyone. Milton would be snatched up immediately if they tried to waive him.

Zappe had ONE good session in OTAs so far.

It's unlikely that Zappe is going to "outplay" anyone.

Yeah I can’t see all 31 teams saying no to a rookie QB project with an arm like his. Big risk to stash him there if they like him.

The denial, it is strong in this one. Zappe is trash.

I’ll have to find the comment, but someone was saying something along the lines of “They keep Zappe, but trade Mac Jones?” And I was wondering if the implication was that Jones would play backup here. He didn’t say it outright, but I found the comment odd because in my mind, after last season, those situations are strictly independent. Jones had to go, period, regardless of Zappe’s fate. I’ll find it when I have access to my desktop.

I’m pretty sure that was Rainmaker
