Bruins 2024 playoffs

Anybody who wouldn't want to see Matt Tkachuck with the spoked B on his chest just doesn't get the pro game. Unfortunately he's locked up through '29.

I have made no claims that I am a knowledgeable fan. I just know what a pain in the ass he is.

It's readily apparent from some of the comments here that they're being made by people who aren't watching the games.
Brad Marchand today : "Every time you step on the ice, someone is trying to hurt someone. That's just how it goes in the playoffs. That's part of the benefit of having a physical group. That's why you rarely see teams that are small and skilled go far."

One could argue Marchand is unconsciously projecting his team's woes, or at least the woes of their small, skilled stars who have been MIA this series.

Regarding "watching the game", if it isn't fully apparent Pastrnak gets disappeared in physical playoff series....ie....Florida.......well....it seems pretty clear Paul Maurice notices it and appreciates.
Two years running...not a coincidence.

Note: Small skilled Marchand is great and deserves zero criticism.
Different story for the $13 million flyweight

Rangers won to advance after down 1 - 3 tonight. Looked like Carolina was going to tie up the series. Nope.

You just can't trust the Bruins in the playoffs. Now they are down 3-2 to the Panthers. Here we go again.

Can we make it to game 7 or is it another early knockout after looking good for most of the regular season?

Makes no sense.

How are the Bruins small? All the players are at least 6 foot tall and around 200 pounds. Except for Marchand. He is the only small guy on the team. One of the best players as well.

The Rangers are basically the same size. Same as the Canuks. You watch all these hockey players in street clothes entering the arenas and theyre all slim, tall white guys that dont look built or anything.

The Bruins are sleeping again.

Need a goal.

Swayman is doing his job.

0 wins at home this series.

Too many on the ice and other stupid penalties.

Toronto didn't waste anytime replacing incompetence at Coach.

Losing an elimination game by one unlucky bounce goal pretty much sums up this team. It just doesn't have the offensive playmakers to beat a very good opponent unless the breaks bounce their way. Hopefully the cap space bears the offensive fruit this team needs.

Look who is leading him at HC.

Was Uncle Fester from Canada?

3 Highest paid Bruin forwards came up small

Pastrnak: 1 goal in 6 Florida games....equivalent to a 13 goal regular season JAG
0 goals 5 v 5, 1 power play goal
Note: Bruins were 1-15 on power play (Pastrnak w/the lone goal)

Marchand: 0 goals in 4 games

Coyle: 0 goals in 6 games
------------------------------
Combined: 1 goal in 16 games.....equivalent to a 5 goal regular season from a Providence call-up

In the regular season, sometimes referred to the "non-contact' portion of the NHL calendar, these 3 stars combined for....
101 goals...or....1.23 goals/game

Compared to a combined 0.16 goals/playoff game
---------------------------
Note: Panthers scored 6 power play goals

Besides the B's big money forwards getting disappeared, one could easily argue Boston's completely ineffective special teams lost them this series.......often manned by Boston's big money forwards

Postmortem: This team, as constructed with its limited resources during the past offseason , was not a real contender despite their gaudy regular season win totals. Their playoff issues: clearing out their defensive end, giving up high shot totals, low volume shots on net for themselves...were all prevalent during the regular season.

Don Sweeney has work to do

This Florida team is really good, and should be the model for how the Bruins build. It starts at the top with solid coaching. Lock up Swayman as you need an elite goalie to compete. Let Ullmark go as you don't need two starting goalies when there are so many needs to address. It's clear who the top dog is and Ullmark would probably like to start somewhere else, so he might waive his no trade clause.

Stop signing over the hill guys like Maroon because they beat you up 5 years ago in the Stanley Cup Finals. Look for guys who will get dirty and outwork the opposition in all areas of the ice on all shifts. Finesse guys don't do it in the playoffs, especially in the East.

This Florida team is built to beat anyone.

Reinhart OTOH is a pending FA. Not only would you be giving Pasta his dream center but taking a 50 goal scorer from a division rival. Like I said before though, that's a pipe dream. FL just hasn't got the room to re-sign him and all but a certainty they can't create it. Unfortunately multiple teams in desperate need of him have substantially more cap space than Boston. 1/3 of the Bruins cap space will go towards taking care of Swayman and Reinhart would command most of what they'd have left. With at least 4 forward holes to fill (3 if you believe Heinen could be brought back for a reasonable price) they'd have to move Ulmark to have the kind of room they'd need. It's the kind of 'just do it' all the eggs in one basket ballsy move that can make or break a franchise for years.
With the exception of Sway, I would give up anyone on the Bruins to get either of these guys. Anyone.

With all the needs on this team Ullmark is a luxury item. I'm sure he would like to start somewhere, so he would hopefully waive his no trade.

Going into the season if someone had told me we would beat Toronto with our roster and would get two wins away from the Eastern Conference Finals, I would have told them that they were deranged. At the start of the season, I honestly was just hoping they would be competitive, bring along some young players, and maybe steal a wildcard berth in the last week of the season. They outplayed their expectations, and I am excited to see what the off-season brings. Don't fire the coach, don't panic, don't listen to the haters, don't blow it up. A few tweaks here and there (especially a number 1 C) and I'll gladly take the 82+ game ride again next year.

And a choke in the playoffs next season.

Setting the NHL record for too many men on the ice in 13 post season games is all coaching. 7 penalties is at a rate of 53%. The Bruins are good losers though starting at the top.
