System QB Tom Brady will be roasted live on Netflix

Yeah, I kinda wondered where Bill Burr was, but I can't fault his logic.

Every generation thinks they started it.

The link I gave above with Johnny Carson roasting Don Rickles is from 1968.

In addition to adultery and homosexuality jokes similar to those told today, Johnny threw in a rug munching joke too!

Redd Foxx was doing a really raunchy act back in that era too.

A high school friend used to have some records of his act back in the 1970s, we used to laugh our asses off to it.

After my brother & I bought/were given (I forget which now) our first turntable & speakers, we then began to borrow albums by Redd Foxx, George Carlin, Bill Cosby et al from the Adams Street branch of the Boston Public Library two blocks away from the house... Did the same (until buying them for ourselves) with The Impossible Dream, Celtics: Pride, Goal: Bruins, and eventually The Spirited Patriots of '76...

Any young adult New Englander of the 1980s had to have seen John Valby too, no?

He did all the comedy joints and colleges back then, and was extremely vulgar.

I remember seeing him with my friends when the drinking age was still 18, what a juiced up night that was!

Believe it or not, he's still doing gigs at age 79!

I have several of his CDs that I bought at his shows including a signed copy of Compact Dirt - Digital Ditties. I laughed my ass off at his shows.

THIS IS VERY NSFW.

So I drove her down to Bridgeport.

There was a whole genre of 'party records' back then.

The following shows the records Redd Foxx made, and you can tell by their titles most of them are 'NSFW'...

I must have had some of his records back in the day, because flipping through that play list I remember a lot of the lyrics.

Of course he did the man from Nantucket. On one record I had did the girl named Dot, which is far more vulgar. PM me for lyrics if you don't know it already.

So I drove her down to Bridgeport.

I think that was based on a well-known joke back then.

I grew up in a town near Bridgeport that stank just as bad, if not worse. We had a factory that made agricultural chemicals and it stank like hell. Another part of the factory was recycling tires by melting them down which stank even worse. When that thing ran, everyone in town knew it.

Anyhow, when I was a sophomore in high school we had a biology teacher who was a joker and he told us the same joke but used our town in the punch line instead of Bridgeport. I thought that was kind of rich since we were sitting in that town's high school and he was being paid by that town's taxpayers, but we all still laughed like hell. You definitely could not get away with that **** these days.

I don't know what Bridgeport is like these days, but back in my youth it was a place where shootings were common. Much of it was a 'no go' zone for us back in the day. There wasn't really any good reason to go there anyhow.

I mean, yeah. It was kind of disingenuous of the comedians to act like heroes because the kids were off limits when they were ripping into the kids’ mother.
I mentioned this earlier
While watching I thought it was funny
But the kids were collateral damage
Comedians torching their mother and saying a 8-9 season was way more important than the kids
TB made a bad move to bring some notoriety to his TB12 business

I didn't mind them going after Gisele. I kinda liked it. She deserves it. It was the "jokes" that blamed Brady for the divorce and not seeing Gisele was cheating, and especially the one about an 8-9 season being more important than his kids that I thought crossed the line. In addition to being messed up they just weren't funny. And don't give me that crap about it being a roast so nothing's off-limits. If someone had a terrible disease I would hope no one would "joke" about that.

I didn't see such "hero actions", feel free to post examples.

I saw Stern's interview with Nikki Glaser posted here and she just responded to his question asking if anything was off limits, no "hero actions" involved.

Most of the conversations after the roast were more about Kraft rather than Gisele.

I get it. You think she’s a whore. But if you don’t think her kids aren’t bothered by hearing that, you have as big a blind spot as he apparently did.

If you're going to point fingers, that's where to point them, right at TB12 and his inner circle.

It looks like they focused on the upside (money, ego boost, publicity) and not on the negatives (collateral damage to the kids and his sisters).

The whole idea of keeping things off-limits did come up because Kraft was (supposed to be) off limits.

I think it would have been difficult to leave Gisele totally out of it, but he could have drawn some lines (e.g. no adultery jokes).

If she were totally off-limits, it would not have felt like a genuine roast.

At least he admitted it immediately.

Zero credit for closing the barn door after the horse left.

His "admission" is pretty self-serving, IMO.

"'It makes you in some ways a better parent going through it because sometimes you're naïve."

C'mon, man, any idiot could see how this was going to play out.

A person as exposed to publicity as TB12 has been for decades now can't play the "I was naïve" card!

You and/or your inner circle screwed up, all this blowback is on you for not setting up better guidelines in advance.

It's pathetic to say I'm now a better parent after my grab for money and fame got the mother of my children and their aunts slut-shamed in front of millions of people.

The divorce is a he-said, she-said situation.

Clearly you're taking the he-said line, that she's an adulterer so she deserves to be publicly shamed, but she denies cheating.

The she-said line is he promised to retire from football at age 40 and she gave him a pass up to the first Tampa season but did not for the second, so if you take the she-said point of view he deserves the line about picking an 8-9 season over the wife and kids.

I'm not saying we know either side is the right one, but in my personal opinion there's a lot of evidence in her interviews over the years that he was not keeping up his end of the agreement with regard to retiring to help with the children more to let her have more freedom to continue her career. In fact he announced his retirement before that last season only to un-retire shortly after.

Most TB12 fan boys don't really care to see that level of detail, they just wanted to see him play one more season and didn't seem to care to consider the impact it was having on his family life.

And don't give me that crap about it being a roast so nothing's off-limits. If someone had a terrible disease I would hope no one would "joke" about that.

I don't see the analogy at all. Having a terrible disease is often something a person has no control over. IMO, TB12 had a lot more control over these events than a typical victim of a disease has. He could have just said no to the roast.

Wow. At first I didn't think Tom cared what his kids heard about him.

No parent is perfect but to not even have a fleeting thought how his two younger children would be impacted is pure cluelessness.

Lol no clue where that came from.

But I think kids can understand jokes too.

And I could careless about how anyone raises their kids not my problem. And certainly has zero impact on how I choose to be entertained.
