Is that why Mills hardly got any snaps? Dude was so good, they wanted to save him for the playoffs? Mills is a jag.
Play offs? Playoffs? Did we go back I'm time? When the he'll did we make the playoffs? Lol the point was having him play free safety, someone that has been here in the system.. this team has a bunch of jags mills isn't the only one..

I think the guy who would be a better FS here is Jonathon Jones. He’s fast, is smart, is a great tackler, has been here longer than any other player so knows the defense. Since he plays slot and outside well, he provides a lot of versatility and potential for disguise. To pull this off, of course, they’d need to focus on finding another outside CB in free agency to pair with Gonzo.

Yes, J. Jones your correct. Considering his age, tenure he should play at FS.. he's done thst at times throughout his career here. He's A dam good CB and actually underrated. As far as the the CBs we absolutely should be looking to add a guy to pair with gonzo. We have a nice stable of DBs all together.

Good Lord. Patriots wire(USA today) just posted a mock draft where the patriots get Justin fields and this is what they give up
2024 3rd and 5th AND 2025 2nd and 5th!
I **** you not.
If I'm the boss that Jack ass gets fired immediately. At the very least the mock draft duties is going to someone else, that person can get coffee and mop the floor
**** No, I wouldn’t even trust that guy with my coffee. Hand him the urinal cakes.

So why exactly do more teams with cap space not do this? Chiefs are basically going to get a free extra premium draft pick at the expense of short term cap space.

Exactly. Pats could easily do this with Dugger or onwenwu. In case a long term deal don't get worked out at least you get a pick

I feel like this rarely is done and not sure why. If it’s a desirable player, you’re getting a free pick.

Plus the tag can always get rescinded later on.

It’s a dangerous game if the player isn’t actually worth the tag value as the yearly average on a long term contract, because then you have to bid against the player’s option to just take that one year tag salary.

For example, I’ve seen something along the lines of $40M over three years frequently suggested for Dugger, so let’s call it $26M guaranteed over two years and then $14M not guaranteed in year three. If you tag him at $17M, then that offer that may have been competitive when bidding against other teams is now a somewhat disappointing 1 year, $9M guaranteed raise over the tag. He might be tempted to just bet on himself and play the year out unless you offer him more guaranteed over the first two years. And of course, that’s even less appealing for the teams that have to give up a pick and then negotiate against the tag.

That’s quite a bit less of a concern for the Chiefs with Snead, as his projected contract seems to be closer to the tag value than Dugger or Onwenu.

That's what I was wondering. Maybe get Jefferson in trade, Kirk Cousins in free agency and a high enough draft pick to get your LT. It's not my ideal scenario, but it is an interesting one.
Cousins doesn't solve our long term QB problem. He will however cost 30 Million a year (at least), is 35 years old, and coming off of a major injury.

Fair enough. maybe just move Dugger to OLB He needs to play closer to the line of scrimmage someone who can cover a flat or a TE I'm always coming up with different packages in my head. Maybe a 3-4 defense
Dugger and Mapu would be the OLBs with tavai and Bentley inside and peppers playing SS. Maybe pats can convert a corner to FS
That would be cool
Let Dugger walk (we have Peppers/Mapu at SS), and use the money on a real FS in Antoine Winfield Jr. or the FS from the Giants Xavier McKinney.

Kirk Cousins solves our short term QB problem and is a known quantity with Jefferson. If you also draft McCarthy, you have a short and long-term plan.

QBs cost money. I don’t know why people assume we shouldn’t pay for one.

JJ would have been a great FS but now I’m concerned that in his older age he may not have the speed to play deep.

There's a lot of "If's" involved with that scenario though. The short term solution could kill our cap.

We have probably $100 million to spend and there’s not a ton of FA talent this year worth spending the money on. Why not spend it on a competent QB for two years? It’ll be a nice change around here.

Once you put the tag on a guy, the team loses all leverage. It does not help negotiate a long term deal (actually reduces the chances of getting one done), and does not help with a trade. The only rationale for doing it is if you feel the player is worth it for that one year - i.e., either he's that talented or you're very thin at his position.

So no tag for Chris Jones? Interesting choice if they haven’t already gotten a deal with him.
I think his tag would've been >30M is probably why.
