I watched Mayfield a lot last year. He's a good QB, getting better, and a good leader. A good QB is going to cost you between 30-40/year. You want good players, you have to PAY good players.
Rookie QBs are a crap shoot, even highly-drafted rookies.
I very much like the idea of not HAVING to take a QB at 3. Shiny toys. Mayfield is a seasoned vet - AVP knows him well, so I'll trust his judgment on this one, certainly. if the Pats nab Mayfield in FA, I'm not losing sleep over it.
And I reject outright this notion that "he's not going to get you to a Superbowl." Purdy got there. Goff almost got there.
Draft a rookie that you need to count on and you might be looking at shiny new QB toys in three years.
The scouts are all over the place with this year's crop of QBs - I read someone trashing Maye today. The only one I hear is consensus NFL starter is Williams, and he's got other problems (and almost certainly won't be there).
This class has fool's gold written all over it, I fear.
