Somewhat OT: Jakobi Meyers says he didn't feel respect playing here

Mac wouldn't have flopped so badly . But we would have also won few more games and be in position 10 where we couldn't have drafted a game changer.
There's plenty of top level talent at 10 in the draft. People act like superstars haven't been drafted in the late first round or even in the second round or later.

So it's come to this.

The Patriots have gone from automatic playoff team and SB or busts, to celebrating losing a few more to get that high draft pick.

They've gone from Goat coach, Goat QB, Goat TE, and close to Goat WR(Moss), to unproven coach, no QB, and a bunch of Jags.

How the mighty has fallen.

OMG, the mean man helped Jakobi far more than anyone else. He was a UDFA who made it to a viable NFL starter thanks to the opportunity and coaching he got with the Pats. The Patriot Way has always been tough but fair and it worked great for Jakobi. I enjoyed seeing the year to year improvement on the field. Jakobi should feel disrespected by all of the teams that didn't bring him onto their team.
That's fine. I still find it interesting to hear the perspective from the players, given we hear very little out of Foxboro. At least until these past 2 seasons.

Wasn't Mahomes taken at 10?

The rumor was Jakobi wasn't even offered a contract. He confirms they did. The $1M shouldn't be a reason a player leaves, but LV doesn't have a state income tax - so that is significant.

Even with that said, If it's only $1M total (not per year), I think this makes Jakobi look bad and not Bill.

The silver lining in this - Douglas is already looking like a better replacement to Meyers.
Did you just say it makes Jokobi look bad cuz he wanted that extra milly? ummmmm

Who gives a ****? Move on.

I liked Jakobi but like. We're literally rehauling the entire coaching staff following a bottom-of-the-barrel season. He didn't miss out on **** and we had a garbage record last year. Let that bell ring for all it's worth and sip your tea with a smile on your face as you read headlines of Bill not getting hired anywhere.

Yes. He was the #1 targeted WR on the team and he bounced over potentially just $1M. If it's per year - fine. If not, that's ridiculous he didn't find a way to work it out. But that's a moot point because he didn't like it in NE, which is why he really left. They fact that he couldn't answer the question if the Pats matched tells you all you need to know.

Keep in mind the Raiders deal was really a one year deal. The Raiders could potential cut him loose where he has a $13M cap hit and $6.8M dead cap hit for 2024. Were the Pats offering the same deal structure?

This is more of a way to take a dig at Bill than losing out on player like Jakobi. This isn't Curtis Martin leaving the Pats in 1997. He's a decent player, but not someone worth overpaying. On the other hand, the Parker extension and Juju signing were just flat out weird.

You know you have a bad team when posters are pinning over Meyers who duplicated the same exact season he had in NE in LV with Adams drawing coverage away.

When you’re mocking half the board with your “Team Bill” “something good” “something bad” schtick, your derision would land better if you didn’t quote a tweet that is really worded to paint the interview in a manner darker than it was. And your thread title…lol. Misrepresentation for divisive impact.

When Meyers was talking about “the respect,” it was about having to prove himself, not that he wasn’t respected.
I posted the thread based on what the Tweet said. Nothing about it was factually incorrect. You can either ignore the thread or come on in and feel free to whine. Either way the world goes on.

I think most thought that the Pats didn't make him a fair offer and just went after Juju, now I'm not sure what to think, they wanted Jakobi and just wouldn't budge an extra million? It's a different look is all.

I don't know the structure of the offered deal. Aside from the money, appreciation from the boss motivates some people, if he is that person and you throw a mil on top. It is kind of a no brainer...Just speculation, I have no idea.

I was 22 years military and before I retired all of my troops were about the same age as my kids, my point is that they were motivated by different things and I had to learn to adapt my leadership style. BB didn't seem to adapt to coaching/teaching style to better communicate with his new audience.

TLDR: I don't blame Jakobi for leaving

Apparently we let him walk over $1 million.

1 million dollars for a super reliable home grown receiver, even if he's not a star player. This interview solidifies that Belichick was willing to let him walk over that and debunks the article that Bill wanted to keep him. If he wanted to he would've spent the million instead throwing a bag at JuJu and giving a few million to a ST player like Chris Board.

I appreciate that it was Felger who did the interview. No sugar coating, asked all the questions that needed to be asked. Candid responses from Jakobi. Glad he is doing well over in Vegas.

A budget was set and actually stuck to. Sucks to have lost Meyers but he's not the level of player you break your budget for.

I suppose you can critique if the budget was accurate. But then again he didn't sign for that much more which to me cuts both ways seems to me we were pretty accurate on his value and maybe we shouldn't have so been so stubborn to lose him.

Either way the real problem came with where we spent the money instead. I really thought JuJu was going to be a good fit for this offense so it's a shame it didn't work.

I really like Jakobi but we need dynamic difference makers at WR. Jakobi is good but we need a #1 and one more difference maker like Douglas. We don't need Jakobi during the rebuild. I am glad he is happy. $1M a year or total doesn't matter, we need explosive guys at WR. Douglas is the beginning of a change.

It's hard to care about the disaster that was Jakobi for JuJu as much when you seen how bad the team was, i mean it was a terrible decision but you're what a 5 win team instead of a 4 win team and you lost a solid 800 yards a season WR3 for a guy who can't play and has bad knees but Bill was fired and the team stunk either way so whatever.

If you have a decent GM who can actually draft WRs then Jakobi Meyers level WRs are a dime a dozen in the later rounds every single year, there's 10-15 of them every year.

We look at it through the level of suck the WR position here has been.

damn,i remember being at meyers first training camp, he and berrios were consistently catching the ball while n'keal harry had drops and got hurt on a routine play. i thought "uh oh" on harry and caught some flack on my report about harry from camp . thats why i say scouts should peruse fan boards to do due diligence.
