Somewhat OT: Jakobi Meyers says he didn't feel respect playing here

Why would Jakobi look bad? He was a UDFA. He should get every single dollar he can. Bill looks terrible letting a productive receiver walk only to sign and re-sign (Parker) for the two guys to combine for worse stats than Jakobi.
aaaaaaand Jakobi looks bad because........?
Because it's over $1M total (which we don't know) as I mentioned in my initial post. But he clearly didn't like it in NE so he's using that as a cop out.

I agree that Parker getting re-signed when the money could've been applied to Meyers was pretty bad. Signing Juju with a bum knee was also inexcusable. I have no problem with a player getting his money, but he seems to be complaining a lot about his time in NE. Why even bring up the "$1M" if it was so bad there?

But if Meyers was re-signed, he'd be main guy in the slot which would push Douglas away who you can already tell provides more big play potential than Meyers.

Pats could possibly cut ties with Parker this season, but it's more likely next season like Juju.

Sounds like they made him a fair offer, is 1 million enough to pack up your family and move across the country when we're talking multiple millions? It looks like they wanted him and made a good offer, he left so we move on.

He really shined as the #2 in Vegas.
Hopefully the team can draft some receivers who will contribute this season.

The rumor was Jakobi wasn't even offered a contract. He confirms they did. The $1M shouldn't be a reason a player leaves, but LV doesn't have a state income tax - so that is significant.

Even with that said, If it's only $1M total (not per year), I think this makes Jakobi look bad and not Bill.

The silver lining in this - Douglas is already looking like a better replacement to Meyers.
Jakobi is not the first player to feel disrespected because the team didn't want to pay him what he thought he was worth. This happens to all teams, in all sports. As you point out, not being able to resolve $1m is on both sides. Regardless, it is ancient history at this point.

My concern is this Kraft or Bills doing?
IF and a big IF Kraft is cheaping out on talent it will take a long long time to be a competitor again.

That is a very important question at the team level. Given the relatively small amount of difference between the offers I don't think Jakobi's contract moves the needle. The team not spending the money to sign Hopkins had a direct impact on the season. Signing him would have more than replaced Jakobi.

Says the guy who posts the tweet that starts with "Jakobi Meyers: Tells
@FelgerAndMazz that he never felt "respect" when playing in Foxboro"

When the interview shows that to be WAY out of context...and put that way to make the team look bad.

Self-awareness...sheesh.
I have no idea what you’re talking about or who you’re mad at.

He didn’t bring it up they asked him how close he was to staying. He also was noncommittal when they asked if we matched if he’d have stayed.

Kraft wasn't in the room.

"They just wouldn't budge," Meyers said. "At the end of the day, he (Belichick) didn't want to move. And I respect it. Like, it's his job to do what's best for his team or what he thinks is best for the team. It just didn't align with what I felt like I was worth."

Shocking that @upstater1 believes Callahan more than Jakobi.

Another BS take from our friend upstater down the drain. Lol

I do. I was told over and over by the usual suspects that Juju would be a big upgrade over Jakobi last March. At best I thought it was a lateral move. I will send you all my calendar so you can coordinate my ticker tape parade.
So? He wasn't, and it's another reason Bill is gone.

When you’re mocking half the board with your “Team Bill” “something good” “something bad” schtick, your derision would land better if you didn’t quote a tweet that is really worded to paint the interview in a manner darker than it was. And your thread title…lol. Misrepresentation for divisive impact.

When Meyers was talking about “the respect,” it was about having to prove himself, not that he wasn’t respected.

**** I hate this
Your post made me think about how other fanbases may have reacted to the end of their dynasty years. Maybe the Patriots run was so long that many fans have never experienced NFL reality or forget what it was like before the run. Regardless, other fanbases don't look back in anger at the people who were key components in the dynasty years. Packers fans don't hate Lombardi. Hopefully time will heal all and we can get back to mocking the Jets and defending the Pats as THE team with the history that will never be matched.

How many times does Kraft have to say BB had total control and if he needed something vis a vis money, he'd give it to him?
And Bill said the opposite when he pointed to the fact the Patriots were bottom in the league in cash spending.
Why would Bill say that if it was him holding the purse?

That's the previous administration. Woulda, coulda, shoulda doesn't really matter. They messed up with the Meyers/Juju thing. If they would have kept Meyers would that have saved their season? No. Does it matter going forward? Not really (we have to see if they keep Juju and if they don't what will he bring to the table next year).
Mac wouldn't have flopped so badly . But we would have also won few more games and be in position 10 where we couldn't have drafted a game changer.

This goes to the style of motivating players.
Patricia vs McDaniels/Pierce

"As far as the respect thing. There, I really had to prove who I was every day," Meyers added. Like, every single day I had to be better. Not just the same, but better. Here, I want to be better every single day. So it's different."

OMG, the mean man helped Jakobi far more than anyone else. He was a UDFA who made it to a viable NFL starter thanks to the opportunity and coaching he got with the Pats. The Patriot Way has always been tough but fair and it worked great for Jakobi. I enjoyed seeing the year to year improvement on the field. Jakobi should feel disrespected by all of the teams that didn't bring him onto their team.
