Love that guy. The greatest to ever do it. Wish him luck for whatever comes next and forever has my gratitude for his hard work and accomplishments we’ve been able to share with him over all these years.
When I was a young lad, I used to read the globe everyday, take in the articles, follow the standings, marvel at teams like the 49ers, Cowboys, Giants, Raiders, Redskins, Steelers etc. Great organizations that continually put up 14-2, 13-3, 12-4 standings. I used to day dream of having the Patriots be one of those teams and what it would feel like to have our team achieve that status. They gave us a small taste in 85 and it was a glorious feeling until the bitter end. Fast forward to 96 with Parcells and Bledsoe and they were inching closer. Defense was starting to look the part but just a little short.
The rest is history, unsure about the hiring but it all came together rather quickly. Within 2 years they slayed an all powerful dragon and shocked the world. We’ve experienced some incredible things with our team but that first one will always be the most euphoric of them all for me. Forever a champion were my thoughts after the game. Little did we know they would go they would go back 9 times and win 5 more.
They’ve had some heartbreakers that would suck the soul from you to where you never thought you’d feel right again. The what if’s still come to mind and it’s a great feeling to know they won the last one they played. But to me, when I start thinking about those low moments, even these last 3 or 4 seasons, I still remember the kid with the newspaper day dreaming of having a great franchise to cheer for. Bill and Tom made that a reality with all the players and coaches over the years to win 6 championships. Never did I dream something that big. All I wanted at the time was 1.
So in reply to Bills article, it’s we the fans that should be thanking you. You’re the best.
