I really hope they go outside and bring in a DC who has never worked in the only system Mayo has ever known.
It’s almost certain that will happen on offense, and likely special teams.

We could have a hc with no experience in any of the schemes his team is running.
Not me, hope they keep the DC in house and run the same scheme, it works really well.

Sorry I meant to say I hope they DONT

I’m concerned he won’t have people around him he can trust. One of his biggest weaknesses as a HC candidate is he doesn’t have coaches he has a working relationship with that he can hire. A couple might stay but the vast majority of the staff are going to be people he doesn’t know and hasn’t built a relationship with by working together. There won’t be any trust in the bank.
Sensible. See this whole things all contingent on finding the qb.. mayo can surround himself with a wealth of smart football people however if we can't get the QB then it's football mediocrity we will remain. Mayo has the organization behind him. In alot of cases with 1st time HCs the leash is very thin. However Mayo's got some proven instances where it can work. Sometimes it's more than just the xo and os to coaching it starts with relationship building especially for mayo

I'm with you there. This defense is stout, they have attitude and they can hang with any offense. These guys really impressed down the 2 top players in Gonzo and Judon.

Being pals doesn’t win football games. Good coaching, teaching and discipline does.
Half the battle of getting the qb is how he is coached when he shows up. Smart football people win more with the same players than those who aren’t smart.
Mayo has the organization behind him at 0-0. They aren’t staying there if he loses and frankly they aren’t doing him any favors right now to help him succeed, but we will see a good piece of it with free agent spending patterns

The whole lack of bringing in or announcing that they're bringing in the top candidates that are out that there that have the potential to be stud OC's concerns me greatly. It's a "Snooze You Loose" possibility, as other teams are going to be jumping on those top candidates.

Just WHO are these "top OC Candidates" that you are referring to?

It's all well and good to say they're missing out, but you're not saying WHO they are missing out on.. The other thing is that some hires will reward other teams if the person is a minority and is still under contract with said team..

It's not about being pals It's called relationship building what McDaniel said he did for Tua. This is different era of young men in the league than when TB12 came in. So as I mentioned we just need to put the offensive staff together, then tackle free agency, then prepare for the draft. Nothing will come easy for Mayo ,but he will likely be given full support.

I most certainly hope that you're right. I just don't have a good feeling at the present time, especially regarding the Offense.
With time, everything will come together. Just like team-building or bonding. The focus is the OC, as of course you're aware. Getting the OC is pivotal to grow and grow the new QB

I wish Steve B would get the DC job but maybe he foes not want to work under Mayo when they were at same level before Mayo got job.
I agree that it feels like an expansion team.
No way Josh comes back to work under Mayo when he could work for his mentor BB
It’s been reported that Steve doesn’t like being at the front of the room. A lot of talented people are like that but it does make it hard to be the sole coordinator which requires leading meetings.

I’ve grown to like Steve Belichick a good deal. Like Josh McDaniels I mocked and derided him early until I realized they were pretty good at their jobs. I think Steve is an excellent play-caller. Something he shares with his Dad. Maybe, Steve could work in concert with Damarcus Covington like he did with Mayo. His experience would be very helpful to the defense and the whole team.

Agreed. Like Coughlin, crennel and wies all those men grew with Bill as coaches. I believe Jarod will have guys thst grow with him as well. Great post!

Maybe Steve could Mayo's "pink stripes"

Eric Bieniemy (Commanders Offensive Coordinator), Shane Waldron (Seahawks Offensive Coordinator), Zac Robinson (Rams Quarterbacks Coach and Pass-Game Coordinator), Klint Kubiak (49ers Offensive Passing Game Specialist), Texans Top Offensive Assistants - Ben McDaniels (WRs Coach and Pass-Game Coordinator) and Jerrod Johnson (QBs Coach), Tee Martin (Ravens Quarterbacks Coach), Liam Coen, Wes Welker. Just to name a few. They all have potential and will invariably be hired by other teams, or promoted by their current teams this season. At the very least, they will each get their shots.

This. It ain’t broke so don’t fix it.

You can cross Bieniemy off, he's never coming here as long as Bob Kraft is alive.

It was inferred that I provide a list. His name just happened to be on it.

Should Mayo bring in an older experienced former head coach as a special advisor? Someone with a lot of experience in the league that can offer advice when needed or just to be there as sounding board.

Having senior job openings is one of an organization's best learning opportunities. It provides meaningful conversations with your competition, to learn about how they see your organization's strengths and weaknesses. You want to interview as diverse a group as possible, and get access to the views and thinking of people that would be walled off from you under every other circumstance.

The extreme example of this is a CEO of a major financial services firm that once created a position called "SVP of Strategy", interviewed about two dozen execs from his competition, then put out a note saying they'd decided not to have the position after all. Every one of the interviewees tried to impress him with their ideas on how to defend and optimize his business. An a-hole thing to do to all those people, and his reputation took a hit, but brilliant corporate warfare.

There's no point in reacting to every interview Mayo is conducting as if it means something about the future shape of his staff. Hopefully he takes several weeks to learn as much as he can, reflect on it, and then make decisions.
