Accept the owner probably won't fire himself. All the reports indicate Reich and company wanted Stroud and Tepper overruled them. Then when it backfired he decided to fire the coach, throw a drink on a fan and then for good measure fired the GM. But felt best he stay on as owner of the team.
Mike Lombardi tells a story about telling Al Davis not to hire Art Shell as coach. Mike told his wife afterwards that if Art Shell turns out to be a good coach, Al Davis would keep Lombardi around, but if he wasn't, Davis would fire him. Lombardi was right. Twice.

Kevin O'Connell is a good coach. I would take him if he got fired.

Yeah, if they're able to get one of the top QBs at #3, this would be a pretty ideal pairing.

I don't think I'm interested in Vrabel. It's just more of the same.
If we move on from BB, let's energize the franchise with new blood.
No JMD, No Mayo (yet, DC yes), BOB - sure, because he's his own guy and has personality.

But I have a sinking feeling, BB will be back. They'll dress it up like they did last year with promises of offense/personnel help, accountability, yada yada. It'll be another underwhelming "value-based" free agency, and a shocker of a trade down draft...
We'll be 8-9 next year.

You can never have enough good linemen. Probably what they would be looking to get at that point.

I wonder how secure BOB's job is. Guess we'll find out soon after the coaching decision is settled.

Question is how much of the blame will Obrein absorb.

At one point the Pats were arguably not only the worst NFL franchise, but the worst professional sports franchise period.

I've been with this team since it's founding. Teenage me was in Fenway Park with my Giants fan father telling me "You mark my word, this team will never amount to anything until it gets a real owner with something in his pockets besides holes and ********." He wasn't wrong either. I've seen them in every iteration and can honestly say at times it was downright painful, even embarrassing. We even briefly gave up our season tickets because we could not stomach supporting Victor Kiam.
That said, there were also the almost haphazard but near glorious upswings mixed in. There was nothing that bordered on the 40-50 year failure as birthright ineptitude that has been the lot of Jete or Bears fans.

Imagine thinking that Kevin O'Connell is a better head coach than Belichick. Lol. As the saying goes, Bill has forgotten more about football than Kev knows.

I also disagree that Vrabel would “just be more of the same”. I’m sure that he has implemented some of the things that he learned during his time in Foxboro but he strikes me as a very bright guy who is confident in his own methods. Even though he is supposedly a very demanding coach, he probably can relate more to the young players than Bill can. More often than not has squeezed the maximum out of his teams’ talent. I want to keep Bill as the HC (with a new GM who knows how to build an offense and who is willing to be aggressive, within reason, in pursuit of elite talent) but if they move on from him Vrabel would be near the top of my list of his potential replacement.

I like the out of the box thinking but it won't work.

This is akin to one of those "Blue Ribbon Panel" of people who are in a position of authority to pass judgement but with zero practical experience.
That and NFL scouting is a whole lot different than NBA. There's soooo many more positions and players to cover. There's no way he puts together a good enough staff to do all the leg work well.

Why would BOB want to come back if reporting that he was basically sandbagged by BB is true? This season didn't do his resume any good.
Because it wasn’t true

I think it makes sense to hire smart people as consultants who have practical experience building successful organizations.

Myers is a brilliant guy but he has no practical knowledge of what makes a successful NFL player. Maybe he rep'd for a few when he was an agent but that was in the 2000s..a lifetime in the NFL ago.

Who says he was sandbagged? It looked like during games; he was hands off and let BOB run the offense. What's this stuff about he only let him have 1 coach. He brought in his bag man; other coaches were in place.

Whether it was true or not, it was obvious that there is a coaching issue on offense but probably not with the OC. BOB seemed to do a fine job game planning but the execution really suffered, and that falls more on the position coaches. They need help there.
