Tom Curran: Sources made 'clear to me' decision to move on from Belichick made after Germany game

All of the things he pointed to made sense. I can only guess but I think he said that it's been coming and it's probably a difficult thing for him to do. I actually did it with MLB many years ago and I don't miss it at all.
Ok I might've been quick on the gun to ChungFu but when deflategate happened this was a VERY common sentiment. Everyone was mad, SO mad, grr! You know what, I'm so mad, I'm going to STOP WATCHING THE NFL! But I'll wait until the GOAT QB and GOAT HC retire first, so it's convenient to me!

I don't know what people are waiting for if they hate the game today. The way it looks to me is it's a cop out for "I don't wanna watch a ****ty Patriots team" disguised as loyalty to BB and Brady

If the rumors of interest in Vrabel are true, then that means Kraft doesn’t care if the HC has offensive pedigree or not. That IMO makes Mayo an easy front runner. Who knows though? There have been plenty of surprise hires made because of someone being blown away by a candidate’s interview.

Here's the thing.... Tua was saved because they got talent around him, but we know Bill would never have went after Hill as aggresively as Miami did. So how Miami took a QB that looked like a bust and turned him into a guy who is in the MVP conversation isn't a model we can assume here. Bill is way too gun shy at investing highly on that position.

If Bill was the coach in Miami, Tua is still a bust and they are looking for the next guy.
If Hill gets injured, Tua will be back to being the same guy before Hill. Hill has been an MVP in this league for a long time for me. He made life so easy for Mahomes and Kelce. He has transformed the Miami offense to include making folks think Tua is that good to be in the MVP conversation.

If they weren't loaded, why did he choose to play there instead of JAX or Detroit?
Do you remember how bad Jax and Detroit were in 2019/2020? They had 9 wins combined. Why would he go there?

The Bucs missed the playoffs before Brady, made the playoffs 3 years with Brady (won SB), and will now miss the playoffs after Brady left. Not really hard to see how much he meant to that team.

Hill obviously makes any QB better , but Tua has developed well and is very accurate with the ball.

Kinda goes to show what obtaining top level talent can do for an offence.

Still its sort of lame kraft would leak this to curran for a coach who has been one of the founding pillars for 23 yrs.

I am thinking that with this "leak," they are signaling to BB that it's really over. They're not interested in giving him one more chance.

And when you think of it, it does make sense to make a clean, fresh start with someone new when you have as of now, a top 3 pick, and $100m in cap money to spend for next season.

If you give all that to BB, you are effectively giving him yet another 3-4 years of this franchise, rather than to a new guy who could take this franchise in a new direction.

Weird... I don't recall those guys playing for the Patriots after Brady left.

Also I don't remember the Patriots making the playoffs with Cassel either for some reason... maybe I missed it.
Brady played 23 years and won 7 rings… shouldn’t he have closer to 20 rings?

Cassel would have made the playoffs with 11 wins and didn’t because of the NFL’s screwed up seeding process…. which they changed not long after.

Kind of blows up your “BB can’t win with anyone but Tom” narrative. No coach can win with bad players… shocking.

When Bill leaves the Patriots will line up candidates and interview them and find who they think is the best one. Like every other team does who is looking for a head coach. Not sure why the onus is on fans to come up with an answer on a replacement.

Right so moving on from a 71 year old coach who has missed the playoffs 3 seasons and counting out of 4 and is sub .500 since Brady left is "rushing headlong" in the direction of a league doormat. Or something.

Coulda fooled me. How did that genius Judge and Patricia hire last year work out?
Judge and Patricia were a considered good head coaching candidates, so was McDaniels. So was Brandon Staley, so was Matt Eberflus… that’s the problem.

You think it’s easy to find one of these coaches, when it’s just as hard as finding a franchise QB.

Justin Herbert is a franchise QB, Brandon Staley isn’t a franchise head coach… are the Chargers good?

Baby/bathwater….

Again, they had 13 Pro Bowlers on that team.

Most of them are gone.

They had a horrible QB who threw 30 INTs before he got there.

They have a horrible QB in Baker Mayfield.

The idea that this is at all comparable to the team Brady joined is just absurd. If you put a halfway decent QB on that 2021 team, they do pretty well. They don't win the Super Bowl, but it was a very good team regardless.

Winston was abysmally bad, one of the most inaccurate passers in NFL history.

You’re saying 7 rings like it’s a bad thing. It’s more than any other player or franchise.
Cassel would have made the playoffs with 11 wins and didn’t because of the NFL’s screwed up seeding process….
Actually it was because they couldn’t beat good teams anymore. Gee I wonder why. I also said Bill’s best before date was the day TB12 left. Cassel was not on the roster after that time so he is irrelevant anyway to the topic at hand.
which they changed not long after.

A narrative or fact? he really is a losing HC sans Brady. You are what your record says you are.

Bill is the problem you dumbass. His drafting has sucked for a decade. His coaching has declined over the last 5 years. Star players are leaving him because they don't want to put up with him. Free agents aren't trying to come here. His coaching staff decisions have been awful. Reid got fired from Philly because he had too many failures there and was trending down and both sides needed a fresh start. It worked out for both of them. Philly won a Super Bowl and found a way to be competitive and Reid found a team that was exstatic to have him and was able to load up on what he wanted and he won rings as well. It was a win win. The Patriots aren't winning right now.

Wozzy I've watched more football than you have in your life and I get paid to officiate high level college games. You are not on my level in terms of exposure or understanding the sport. You are a run of the mill homer who sits on his couch and just says whatever feels good because you can't accept that the old dog had his day an it's over. You aren't going to be able to flex your limited knowledge here.

Explain to me why Bill's special teams is one of the worst units in the league. That isn't Mac. Explain to me why every good offense that isn't crap burns the **** out of our defense and has the last few years. That isn't a Mac issue. Sorry you spent all last off season acting like an idiot saying this team was good and now you had to invent a conveniant scapegoat to hide from being wrong when most of us knew beter.

Sorry it sucks that you showed your ass like this. Oh well. Can't say it wasn't predictable.
Dumbass… isn’t name calling frowned upon here? Since it’s not, go fck yourself.

Your post is a load of horsesht internet tough guy. You get paid to ref games…. laughable.

BB had the best free agent class in 2021 but players don’t want to come here… players want money. Period.

The Patriots have one of the best D’s in the league despite missing the best players on that unit. They’re breaking in two new kickers but the special teams suck. They made the playoffs in 2021, that’s the year before last.

Mac sucks, if you knew about footbal that would’ve been evident to you sooner. You… the guy who told me Mac was their best chance to win and Zappe suckled… laughable.

Stick to reffing division 3 and community college games…

And BB hired them as 2 failed HC’s to run his offense and manage his 2nd year QB’s development.
You think it’s easy to find one of these coaches, when it’s just as hard as finding a franchise QB.
There’s only one HC that would have even thought of hiring those two guys to a role way out of their element.

I don’t follow. How is a team finding a new HC who isn’t a 71 year old man turning into a league doormat.

But good players can win without good coaches. It happens all the time and always will. I only wonder how coaching became so overrated in the first place. The coach/player comparison reminds me of acting compared to writing. I've seen tons of 5 year old actors that were good but never a 5 year old writer.

The most incredible thing though, is that some fans defend Bill because he doesn't have players and totally ignore that he's the man responsible for those players. Bill the GM blows but we need to keep him for his coaching. Huh?
Tell Justin Herbert and Devante Adams good players can win without coaching… they’re desperate to win.

The defense was designed to play Belichick style. They are not thumpers. They take up space and squeeze you. They want as many safeties as they can safely put on the field without getting run over. They want to bait you into throwing into coverage. Bend but don't break. Whoever the new DC is will need to either run a similar D or they have to reconstruct the team all over again.

I believe the only reason the Krafts want to fire Belichick is that they don't get along with him, they have a cold relationship, and they look at him as an employee with too big an ego, instead of looking at him as a talent. The 3-10 season has given them the perfect out to fire him. But this is all about relationships, not judgment about what is best for the football team.

Sounds an awful lot like.... well, nevermind.

Or get Peyton Manning who took a .300 HC in college to a Super Bowl to tell them

You’re saying 7 rings like it’s a bad thing. It’s more than any other player or franchise.
But Brady has magic powers, by your rationale he should have closer to 20 rings. All you need is Brady, the guy Nick Foles beat and Eli beat twice. Magic.
Actually it was because they couldn’t beat good teams anymore. Gee I wonder why. I also said Bill’s best before date was the day TB12 left. Cassel was not on the roster after that time so he is irrelevant anyway to the topic at hand.
Yeah… Bill lost his magic powers when Tom left. It wasn’t that they had to rebuild and he put his eggs in the Mac Jones basket and Mac sucked.

If BB finds a great QB he’ll suddenly look like a genius again. The same way Shanahan looked like a lame duck for trading three firsts for Trey Lance and got his butt saved by taking Brock Purdy with the last pick. The funniest part about this is Kyle wanted Mac Jones and got talked out of it…. he would have failed either way.
A narrative or fact? he really is a losing HC sans Brady. You are what your record says you are.
BB drafted Brady. He doesn’t have to qualify his record without Brady… that’s for nitwits on the internet who eat Tidepods.

Bill isn’t going anywhere. Kraft isn’t going to pay two coaches. The only way Bill leaves is if another team wants him in a trade.
Maybe that'll happen.

It's more like bargaining with an addiction, but do your own self-diagnosis. Not sure I'll be able to walk away but it certainly isn't on your ****in timeline or terms.

Manning didn’t win a ring until a decade into hIs NFL career, denied largely because of Belichick defenses.

He won his second ring when he was playing nearly crippled, he had to borrow some steroids from his wife and after he lost his starting job to Brock Osweiler… laughable.
