If a young player (no matter the position) is poorly developed early in their career, it is extremely hard for them to ever get back on track. The first few years in the league is extremely important to any player. There are few late bloomers. There is no way to tell how many of these bad QBs would have been good QBs if they were in better organizations.

Look at Mac. His mechanics have completely deteriorated from his rookie season. Will he ever get that back to even get back to what he was his rookie season or will he always have bad mechanics. He doesn't trust himself and he lacks confidence too. Will he ever get that back?

Even some of the guys who do eventually become good players take many, many years and are lucky to even get that second chance. Kurt Warner was cut and went to the Arena League. Then he was given a shot at NFL Europe and eventually made his way back to the NFL. Today, there is no Arena League and there is no NFL Europe. A Kurt Warner would likely be a forgotten player who never had a shot in the NFL.
Kurt came fro0m 1-AA which is why he was ignored. He wasn't a D1 player.

Mac's mechanics have always been bad. There are lots of threads from 2021 talking about. Seriously, there were quite a few Patriot posters highly critical of Mac for poor mechanics and a weak arm.

I wasn't one of them. I backed Mac all last year and blamed Patricia.

In the 2nd game this year against the Dolphins, I finally saw the light. It became obvious to me that he was the problem on this team. Sam Howell, for instance, would have won several more games on this very same team.

This weapon thing for QBs is no doubt true but you see Pickett in Pitt playing with weapons and doing poorly, while Stroud in Houston is playing great without them. In other words, it's not an automatic thing that you stick a mediocre QB out there with great weapons and he plays great. Of course I want weapons, but now I see an OL playing well, an OL with a threat of a running game, and a QB who is totally incapable of delivering. There really are no more excuses.

When Mac went outside the team last year to ***** about the Offence he went to BO'B. So even though they weren't together at Alabama it's natural to assume Mac favored O'Brien to replace Patricia. Unfortunately when the Pats brought in O'Brien to Foxboro Mac again went outside the team to ***** about the Offense to Dan Orlovsky. Because Mac's an unprofessional little **** who loves to blame everyone else.
It's never the Macster oh boy.

Finally you are agreeing with me that it is fact. Glad you have come back to reality.

Sorry, but there is absolutely no argument to say that Belichick decisions in personnel and coaching over the last two years were things that bad teams do to young quarterbacks. I take it back. Even most bad teams wouldn't be stupid enough to make Patricia and Judge in charge of the offense.
Have you ever considered what kinds of decisions a coaching staff is faced with when their QB really sucks?

I was sold on Mac’s ability to process thru progressions quickly and make correct decisions. He’s shown flashes of that but not really since his rookie year.

The HC and OC sucks too misery loves company.

More absolute trash from Ryland, another overdrafted kicker that no one had ever heard of.

BB can not be allowed to run another draft!!!

7 points, again!

is there anyone left who thinks Mac is a NFL QB? Zappe clearly isn’t the answer there either. Too bad Josh go5 fired he was about the only one that they could have traded Mac to.

He won 6 with Belichick. 4 of which were with an average offense.

The Belichick defenders are still coming out in force! So willing to ride the sinking ship known as SS Belichick down to the watery grave!

Such persistence of contrariness in the face of mounting and overwhelming evidence that proves BB rode TB12's coattails!

Please continue to enjoy drinking your koolaid as the house burns down all around you!

Wouldn't want to get in the way of a good delusion!

Odd response.

There is nothing to defend....?

The franchise sucked before Belichick. It's fact. Do you disagree?

Jones is now a bust. The coach and gm did not do anything to build a team around him. all they're acquisitions were on defense and special teams...and hunter Henry. not good enough in 2023.

Hunter Henry, Ezekiel Elliot, Kendrick Bourne, Juju Smith-Shuster, Jonnu Smith, Nelson Aghalor, Riley Reiff. And that's just off the top of my head. Sure, most of them were either disappointments or outright busts. But it's wrong to say:

They tried. Pretty hard, it looks like. Which is all anyone can ask.

His mechanics weren't bad in 2021. He was a good QB that year. No matter how much people want to deny it, he was. And his strength arm has nothing to do with his mechanics. Again, go look at Lazar's Twitter feed. He showed how much better a QB Mac was in his rookie year. And it wasn't McDaniels managing him. He made anticipatory throws into small spaces. Down the field.

And just because Stroud is good and Pickett is bad doesn't really mean much other than Stroud is living up to his two overall spot and Pickett was overdrafted.

And the o-line is playing better, not well. It is wildly inconsistent. It was as bad as it ever was the first half of last week. In fact, you could argue it was the worst it was all year.

But Mac is broken no matter who is around him. The last two years as destroyed his psyche. He is timid. He is indecisive. He is mistake prone. It is all in his head.

It's amazing how many people continue to come out and defend inexcusable performances over and over again.

Nobody's even claiming that Zappe lit the world on fire. He actually had several bad moments.

But the difference between Mac Jones and Zappe running the offense was night and day.

Mac Jones offense was sleep-walking to 2 INTs and 0 points!

I'd even go as far to credit Zappe with 10 points for the offense in one half because most competent NFL kickers can make a 35 yard gimme FG, except of course he was BB's lousy draft pick!!!

He's a rookie kicker. This is what happens with them. He seems to kick the ball true normally. Gost was picked even higher. Both Gost and Vinatieri missed more kicks their rookie years.

He may indeed be bad. We won't know for a few years. He has plenty of leg and for the most part, he kicks it without wobbling.

Agreed. There is a difference. Mac is blaming the reciever when he is wrong. Brady did ***** a bit, but it seemed like he has a very long fuse, and he was rarely wrong. P Manning used to ***** about his OL, I always cringed when he did that.

Another big difference. Brady didn't start doing that till after his 3rd Superbowl (and 2nd SB MVP) and had built up the stature and credibility. Mac didn't even wait till his first playoff win.

And like you, I cringed when Brady did that. Even when he was right.

Gostowski missed 5 kicks his rookie year. Ryland has already missed six with a third of the season to go. Vinatieri missed seven, but has a higher completion percentage than Ryland does now (77.1% vs. Ryland's 66.7%).
