Will Mac Jones be the starter after the Bye ?

He will not start. But it won't look much different.

Zappe/Grier will keep on losing. The roster just isn't very good. And from all accounts from how bad Mac is the only reason he's starting is the coaches think zappe/Grier are much worse

10 is dragging the roster down. What do you say if Zappe comes in makes the right on time reads and the offense improves dramatically? Like it did last year against Cleveland and Detroit?
Zappe may physically be worse, but 10 may be the worst QB in the entire NFL at carrying out the plan of the play and reading and throwing in time.
Going from the worst to just bad will be a big improvement.

Thanks for pulling all of that. Mac Jones has played 10 games. Will be interesting to see where he stands if we adjust the 11-games QB's accordingly. Still don't get why Howell has been sacked so much. His OL looked ok in our game.

Most QBs in the top 10 have played 10 games.

I doubt any other QB can manage very well behind that kind of OL.

That kind of statement is hypothetical and can’t be proven. It is as empty and true as me saying that I think that at least 20 QBs in this league can do a better job than Mac does.

Even Tom Brady wasn't able to overcome a deficient OL in Tampa last season. A broken down Bucs OL is light years better than what we have right now. So why should I believe any other QB would do any better?

Like I said both of these can be true and are. The QB'ing isn't good. The rest of the offense isn't good. It really shouldn't be that painful to accept should it? If there's one person to blame for this, blame the HC/GM. It's his team he built all of it.

In the last 2 years 10 has started 24 games.
The highest point total the patriots put up was 29.
Zappe started 2 games and they scored 38 and 29.
The average total offense when 10 starts is 303 yards per game.
In Zappes starts it has been 382.

That is ZAPPE. A guy who may not even be an NFL caliber QB and basically the 2 best games the offense has had in the last 2 years are the ones he started.

You don’t even need to analyze how awful 10 is at executing passing plays, how slow he is to read and react. Just look at the results. If 10 doesn’t okay the team is better.

You tried that argument yesterday and it failed then too. Playing qb requires physical skills, coaching does not.

Oh but it is the same logic. That someone is great today because of the past not because of what they can do now or in the future.

Case in point: The same guy who has 6 rings brought in two failed coaches over their heads to botch our offense last season. The worst coaching job of his career for sure although this season isn't far behind...

If I show you an elderly genius scientist who is still just as smart as ever, you can’t counter that a power lifter at 80 can’t compete as a power lifter and call it that same thing.

If any competant QB (and I’m saying good backup level here) was on this team we would be AT LEAST 5-5. If 10 played like a decent backup we beat LV INDY and Washington

Of course it matters.
Shulas last 4 years were 39-25, similar to most of his career and were all winning seasons.
Landry hadn’t won a playoff game in 6 years, when he was 58.

The Bucs OL wasn’t much better they were bottom 5 last year. By the same account Pats play calling is a million years better this year than the Bucs last year.

If Mac played on the Bucs last year they would not have won more than 3 games.

I don’t deny that Bill botched the offensive roster and that include the QB. Let’s put it that way, I think that a better QB with this OL will would yield better result than Mac with a better OL.

I agree that the OL needs new talent next year. The reason that the OL was such a disaster to start this year was due to injuries, not that the team ignored the position in the offseason. I have come to the conclusion that was actually a blessing disguise when thinking long term because things have been so bad that it proved that Mac was not capable of leading a team through adversity. The fact that Mac has not improved as the OL situation got better is proof that he is not the guy. Things would have been worse if the OL allowed the team to look competitive enough to keep Mac as the long term QB only to fall apart next year when things got tough. Having a clear answer is painful, but better than finding out later.

Yeah they were lousy but I'd still take them anyday over what we have now. I'm not so sure the play calling is that much better is it?

But the single point of failure is the HC/GM. It's not the QB. Zappe was worse than Mac on Sunday. Zappe is not good either but not sure what else anyone expected. Most of the offensive personnel is not NFL caliber at this point and should be sent packing after the season.
