At the end of the day, Mac Jones isn’t a good QB, but he was not helped at all by the situation around him.

He is not supposed to be worst QB in the league. He's supposed to be a top 17 guy, not a bottom 3 guy. Him looking that terrible is a sign of the roster Bill put around him.

Mac's been one of the least sacked QB's in the league the last three years, but it was his line that ruined him?

You guys realize this isn't the 80's right?

QB's can barely be touched even if they get hit, this isn't Jim Everett or Troy Aiken getting the snot kicked out of them and coming away with CTE.

Mac Jones last quarter of 2021 his rookie season is the same QB we see now, only defenses are keenly aware of his weaknesses... they have film on him.

Nobody ruined him, he was just never very good. He stayed the same, he never improved.

Sam Howell has been sacked 47 times this season, the next closest guy is 33 sacks... he leads the NFL in passing yards and tied for third in passing TD's... why doesn't he need your excuses?

You can't be afraid to draft, go grab another QB... draft two.

Brady passed for 505 yards 3 TD's and lost to the Eagles in the Super Bowl... it's clearly a team game.

We wouldn't be having this conversation if you didn't suggest an individual player has magic powers or team didn't matter.
....says the poster who called me a Mac shill when I pointed out that Lowe is terrible and his man was in Mac's face on the same play where Mac threw the pick. I don't think it's me saying team doesn't matter.

If people are going to blame everything on Mac then I'm too happy to give Brady every single piece of the credit for the dynasty. That logic goes both ways.

Quit chasing me around like a sex offender... you have zero credibility and just copy/paste the same nonsense over and over when you're getting schooled.

Saying Mac sucks is not the same as saying one magical player is responsible for everything. Half or more of the league have "great" or "good" QB's, but only one team wins a ring every year. If Nick Foles or Joe Flacco can do it, if Eli Manning can beat Tom twice... it takes a team not a single magic player to win a ring.

Obviously a Mac shill. The quality of the team doesn’t matter it’s all Mac’s fault cause it’s all the QB (except when it’s Brady winning). Put literally anyone else in and this offense is great. Lmao

Analytics told us Stephon Gilmore was a bad player back in 2017 when the Pats signed him instead of extending Malcolm Butler.

I don’t need nerds to explain football to me, it’s not that difficult. We’re not launching a rocket into orbit, we’re moving an inflated pigs bladder down a field using 11 men.

How to break a rookie QB in three easy steps:

1. Worst pass-protecting OL for last three years
2. Worst receivers for last three years
3. Three Offensive Coordinators in the last three years, including one that had never done it before.

Two of the Three OC's are proven.

Tua’s pass protection since his rookie year has been horrid to average at best, he’s had a different coordinator every year until McDaniels, his top two WR’s improved of late… beyond that he’s had pretty average receivers the entire time.

Look at his career arc and stats, he improved every year when his offensive line wasn’t getting him hurt.

Mac’s been one of the least sacked QB’s the last three years and the majority of his sacks were self inflicted. Tua didn’t need excuses…

I disagree. It’s not how you break a rookie QB. It’s how you expose a bad one.

I don't think any in depth analysis needs to be done around those stats. Says it all as written.

This whole offense is a pile of flaming trash. It is not just a QB change away from being anything above that level.

Who knows if they'll let Mac back or move to Zappe (which should be a rest-of-the-year move if they do it)
But, the thing I care about - is I don't have the patience to wait another 2-3 years for a rookie QB to develop.
If you guys watch these top rated college QB's - they have great OL's, their WR's win by 10yds., it's just hard to know who will translate to the NFL. I'd almost rather sign a couple viable NFL backups and a proven starter as a bridge (ie: Cousins) and see who can win the job.
Use the 1st rounder for Harrison, or franchise LT.

Gesicki had 73 catches for 780 yards with Tua, the last competent QB he had.

Gesicki and Henry won’t have that combined this season... but sure... it's "the weapons."

Brady, Mahomes, Burrow, Herbert... this is a top ten offense.

First of all none of those guys are available, nor are any QB's of their caliber. And even Brady himself couldn't overcome similar problems with the Bucs offense last season and I'd take their offense over ours every time. A rebuilding project is needed on offense not just a QB change. They suck.

Mac has been terrible, you're dismissing the degree to which a terrible QB can submarine a season so you can whine about weapons... ignoring how our weapons, mostly proven commodities, are having the worst statistical seasons of their individual careers.

We're talking about Mac and the power of terrible QB play. Here's a great example of that.

This the the 2017 49ers schedule and results. The last five games of the season I've highlighted is when JimmyG (merely good) took over, prior to that is a combination of CJ Beathard and Brian Hoyer (outright bad):

That's ^ the power of good QB play versus outright bad QB play. Look at the scoring discrepancy and win totals... nobody can win with bad at the most important position in football. It's not the weapons or O-Line... Mac has been abominable.

You keep telling me it's a team sport. Now it's all the QB after all? Make up your mind man.
"Proven commodities" like Juju with a bad knee and Parker who is always injured himself? Those are proven commodities?

And how did Mahomes do in the Super Bowl with an OL as bad as what the Patriots are putting out there every week? Nuff said.

Jones will likely be out the door next season as will the other two stiffs on the roster. Brand new QB room next season is a start but it's not the only thing that needs to be done to the offense. Fact.
