10 things I think most of us can agree on at the bye

Your #3 comments on Mac are quite true. We have little idea with regard to his being on the team in 2024. There are a lot of variables. let us say that we cannot get one of the top two QB's? Of course, we would draft one and sign a mid-level veteran. Depending on the new coach(es), we might keep Jones as our #3. We might even keep him as a now and future #2.

We currently are truly screwed at QB, and serviceable QB's are hard to find in the draft or in free agency. Besides, a draft might take 2-3 years to develop, It was negligence not to have signed a serviceable backup like Minchew last off-season. I suppose, I can eat my words if Zappe goes 4-3 over the remainder of the season. We SHOULD be sure. The obvious danger is having no QB and signing the 5th year option as insurance.
Yep. We simply do not presently have a worthwhile starter on the team. (I genuinely think Mac has been incompetently supported and coached, surrounded by a lousy roster: I hope he can make a comeback, somewhere.) Mac may have value as a prospective backup, as long or short term competition for some newbie, as a temporary starter for some promising prospect we draft for a want to develop., etc. It costs us little to keep him around, even through next year, if that turns out to be the wise course of action as matters develop. We just don't know what is best to do at present, and we can afford to wait on Mac's fate until we do. The likely real-world alternative to Mac, certainly if we draft a qb prospect would be a veteran, who would be in a better position to mentor any newbies on the scene.

fair enough

For me, that would require
1) A brain transplant for Mac Jones.
2) Klemm and Trent Brown being healthy.
3) Good play from Juju and perhaps some help from Boutte.

I'm with Andy. I don't think that we are that far away, not now, and not after we re-sign all of our free agents.
You're the eternally hopeful fan. We haven't seen any improvement on the team since 2020. Looks like they've regressed. Don't want to hear about injuries. Other teams have same or worse injury situations and are doing much better. Anyway, one of Bill's supposed traits is that he builds a roster w/o top end talent but with good depth to weather injuries. That hasn't panned out.

I'll give you this much, you have been complaining through the offseason about the OL. The way Bill handled the OL is borderline criminal.

I think that trait went out the door with a certain QB...

The people that think this team is "just" a player or two away from the playoffs are the same people who would argue N'Keal Harry wasn't a bust during his career here, or that the Sony Michel pick was great. This is a bottom 5 team and right now in week 10 probably the worst roster in the league. The worst part for me is, for the most part, the fans have been calling out the mistakes/missteps in real time. A lot of us knew letting Brady walk with no one else in place was a mistake. A lot of us knew the Patricia experiment would be a disaster. A lot of knew Bill didn't do nearly enough to address the offense this year. A lot of us knew that what he put together at tackle this year would come back to haunt us. These are just a few of Bill's recent decisions a good majority of the fanbase called out as they were unfolding in real time. This isn't a case of hindsight being 20/20. This is people who don't get paid to run a football teaming being more aware of the issues than the head coach/GM.

Belichick at least managed to get top tier talent for Brady, even if part of it was luck: first Welker and Moss, then GRONK and the other guy, then Edelman and White. (No, Edelman/White are not top-5 overall, but they were top-5 or better in their specific roles.)
So we want to blame BB for the bad picks, and call it luck when he stumbles into good players?

BB drafted Brady, and kept four QBs that year rather than expose him to cuts.

How many other teams would have lost Brady thinking no other team will grab a 6th round cut?

Many of our resident draft experts wanted Sergio Kindle rather than Gronk. I expect these same draft experts would have been but *****ing if Gronk’s injuries had proved too significant for him to overcome.

BB drafted Edelman.

BB drafted Douglas.

Hindsight is a luxury that BB didn’t have but our resident draft experts do.

BB is not above criticism, certainly JJSD looks to be a mistake, and there are others, but wait until you don’t have BB to blame anymore.

Whoever replaces him will never miss on a draft pick, I am certain.

A separate issue that I have had with the NFL for a while is allowing assistants to be poached without compensation.

During the dynasty years the Pats had so many assistants poached by other teams with no compensation, and then having to train new ones who will later get poached as well.

At some point the well runs dry.

A developed assistant doesn’t happen in a vacuum.

That's why Owners should open to check books and pay them or they will be compensated by other Teams.

He kind of came across talented players by accident.

It's been said he purposely passes up these kinds of players.

BB drafts bust WRs: he sucks!
BB drafts elite TE, WR and signs WR FAs that reach new heights: he’s lucky!

Get rational people.

LOL. Who's the elite WR he drafted?
Deion Branch, Julian Edelman

Also Malcolm Mitchell was looking awesome. It sucks that he had a career ending injury.

Great post ….Bill and “his family” need to go…..he’s had four years since Brady left to prove he can coach and win without Tom….he’s failed miserably. Just keeping the sham Newton experiment going through that abysmal season in 2020 would have gotten most coaches fired. Need to start fresh with a new dynamic offensively minded HC and great coordinators ….time to open the purse strings Bob to bring in top tier talent players….welcome to the new NFL!!
Can someone please explain to me exactly what his sons have done wrong other than be his sons?

Neither of them were elite. What are you smoking?
That’s odd I seem to recall both of them consistently being the best players on the field during the playoffs and Super Bowl. I’m sorry if they didn’t satisfy your football fantasies.

Never mind the fact that his sons are coaching the highest performing parts of the team lol
