Per Breer: Mac Jones "infuriating" coaches with decision making

Yep that's why I'm in the Tank at all cost club. We need a poor man's Burrow or Allen I would be happy with either scenario.
It looks like a deep QB class on it's surface, they could find the guy in the top 5-10 picks.

Do whatever it takes, even if you have to trade up.

I'm still want us very close to the Top Wozzy just to make sure.

BB drafted Mac, and Mac sucks. Add a great QB to this roster and they're pretty darn good. No team can win with bad QB play.

If by some chance Kraft was to fire BB this weekend and wanted an entirely new regime to take over, as an armchair GM I'd love to take this team over.

They have a lot of young talent, they have a high first round draft pick to find their QB, they have the most cap space in the league, they have a rabid fanbase and good ownership. What's not to like?

Find a QB, they'll become instant contenders.
They need a HOF caliber QB to get this current week 10 roster anywhere. Overall I don’t think this current roster has much talent whatsoever. I think Demario Douglas, Christian Barmore, Christian Gonzalez, and Sidy Sow can be big contributors down the line. Dugger and Onwenu if they decide to pay up. Outside of that we have some role players and guys with bad contracts.

So you were good with the Pats starting the ghost of Cam Newton another year?
I would rather run the cam Newton offense with Malik Cunningham than the buffoonery we see out there now.... newton had them at 6-6 and very much alive in the playoffs hunt

Mac sucks, I'd be happy right now with simply "good" QB play.

Going forward assuming they re-sign some of these guys, as a GM I'd love to inherit these guys along with a high first round pick, all my picks, the most cap space in the league and the ownership and fanbase:

Christian Gonzalez
Isaiah Bolden
Keion White
Sidy Sow
Chad Ryland
Marte Mapu
Atonio Mafi
Demario Douglas
Kayshon Boutte
Bryce Baringer
Jake Andrews
Marcus Jones
Tyquan Thornton
Cole Strange
Brenden Schooler
Sam Roberts
Jack Jones
Rhamondre Stevenson
Christian Barmore
Josh Uche
Michael Onwenu
Anfernee Jennings
Kyle Dugger
Mike Gesicki
Ja'Whaun Bentley
Kendrick Bourne
Deatrich Wise
JuJu Smith-Schuster
Jabrill Peppers
Pharaoh Brown
Matt Judon
Jalen Mills
Jonathan Jones
Hunter Henry
Ezekiel Elliott
Trent Brown
David Andrews
Adrian Phillips

There's a fair amount of talent there ^

We've seen it numerous times before, even really talented teams with bad QB's can't win.

your reply does illustrate the problem with drafting QB prospects. So many highly regarded prospects quickly flame out at the NFL level. So what is the best way to find a good QB?
The best way to find a great QB is by building a SB ready team first, then get a HOF QB in their last leg or a very good proven QB. Broncos, Bucs, and Rams did that with Manning, Brady, and Stafford.

Next, draft a QB of the future in the 2nd round who can be a cheap backup for 2 or 3 years before becoming the starter. BB did this with JG but about 6 years too soon.

I think people generally get annoyed with the contingent on here who has continually whistled past the graveyard and clutched their pearls at anyone who dare question what Bill is doing of if a player isn't really that good. In my opinion the annoyance comes from the notion that somehow the blind homerism makes you a better fan. It doesn't. It just makes you seem like you're too dumb to think for yourself. I have been *****ing about Bill's drafting for years and I always got the "Hurr hurr 6 rings!" Some people need to see the wheels fall off, roll away, and for the rest of the car to burst into flames before they admit things aren't going well while some people stare into the flames and believe the flaming car was the plan all along and we should all be lucky to witness it.

Extreme homerism is a different argument. At least an extreme homer are rooting for the team to be good and not relishing in the failures just to be right. But I wouldn't necessarily say an extreme homer is a better fan than other fans.

I think most people have been seen the decline of Belichick over the last few years. I know I have. I said Belichick should have been fired after last year. Personally, I wonder how much Ernie Adams was behind a lot of his genius, but that is another argument.

And even though I was on the "homer" side of the Mac argument, my point was always he was set up for failure and we just have never gotten a good way to judge him and what he could do with his ceiling. But after his meltdowns in the Cowboys and Saints games along with a similar meltdown last year in the Raiders' game, I have more concerns about his mental make up rather than his actual ability. And you cannot trust someone who can habitually meltdown like that even if he could potential play at a high level (which I am not saying Mac could play).

But what I was talking about is not a case of countering extreme homerism because there are a couple of people who just are taking victory laps on Mac in virtually every post no matter who they are responding to.

The fact of the matter is there is no good way to get a great QB except be lucky. Having the top pick is no guarantee. For every Peyton Manning or even Joe Burrow, there are a ton of Baker Mayfields. And how often is there going to be a HOF QB that becomes available. There were eight years between Manning going to the Broncos and Brady leaving the Patriots.

Odds are that if the Patriots are going to be in contention again any time soon, they are going to have to go the Eagles route with a good, not great QB with an awesome cast around him. Unfortunately, it is easier to create a powerhouse team around a good QB than to get a great or elite QB.

As for Garoppolo, I still don't think he would have been much of anything here. He wasn't great with the 49ers until they got all those weapons and the 49ers are proving they can win with almost any QB other than Trey Lance.

I would argue that Jalen Hurts has the potential to be great and is playing at a very high level. The Eagles resurgence coincided with Hurts rise and improvement as their starting QB.

The thing about Hurts is that he's a dynamic playmaker who threatens the defense with both his legs and his arm.
Over the past 2 years Hurts has rushed for over 700 yards on the ground with double digit rushing TDs.
In the air he is making plays as well and shown improvement each year, 3100 yards, 3700 yards, and this year he's on pace for 4400 passing yards.

This is the kind of growth and imrovement you hope to see from your 1st round QB. He was taken in round 2 of the 2020 NFL draft and has well exceeded expectations.

This is stark contrast to Mac Jones who has gotten worse every single year since his rookie season.

Looks like Mac is being setup as the fall guy.

Was Mac the guy that:
a) pushed Jacoby Meyers out the door
b) declined to outbid the Titans for Hopkins who got him for a deal. Money talks and the Pats could have easily convinced him with more money.
c) injure their only good receiver Bourne.

With the Jags Mac is playing with, we shouldn't be blaming him for anything but pointing the finger to where it belongs.
I suggest you take a look at the Houston Texans wr and te Corp
Nico Collins , banged up Robert woods and tank dell

They are worse than the pats wr but shroud as a rookie is playing lights out

Mac just sucks and is holding this team back, he can’t elevate anyone

You don't need to be a WR or O-line expert to see his WR's and O-line suck.
The o line was fine the last games and mac barely throw for more than 200 yards against one of the worst pass defenses in the league with their edge rusher duo

Look at stroud he throws to wr who would be nr 3/4 on the depth chart on most teams and he looks great

Mac is a bust

Well he would have if Reagor caught that one ball that hit him right in the hands. And the game would have at least went to OT if Juju did his job. And Parker had a few catches he dropped.

And if you add all of those catchable balls together that should have been caught... we probably win that game.

You can do this both ways.

agree this throw was very good but f.e. on the fourth down conversion to TT he had ages in the pocket, a clean passing lane to make this throw to TT
An NFL QB should be able to make this throw

Seems like an odd thing to do if they want to trade him somewhere.
Except we heard the same thing last season about Mac reaching outside Foxboro for advice. That also came from Foxboro. It's almost like BB is sabotaging Mac to spite Kraft. Mac was seen being chummy with Kraft. They obviously have a good relationship that may irk Bill.

You wasted a lot of keystrokes here -- the reference was to Triumph's obvious nonsense, not you or anyone else.
Except his point was that Triumph wasn't the only one with that view. A bunch of us saw it but you and your blind homer brigade kept trying to shut us down as having an "agenda." Lol, you guys are hilarious.

When did this love for Howell start? He's not good. He's not the second coming of anyone. You blame the Pats for not drafting him...neither did 31 other teams for 4 rounds.

He outplayed Mac and the beat up Pats secondary featuring the likes of Myles Bryant. That's it.
Jonathan Jones (77%), Jack Jones (38%), JC Jackson (68%) all played. All of these DBs have been lauded around here as being exceptional. You'll have to take it up with Little Steve why he played Bryant (71%) more than some of these other guys.
