In six games, Jonnu Smith has 28 catches, 309 yards, and 2 TDs.

In six games, Nelson Agholor has 17 catches, 222 yards, and 2 TDs. And his last couple of games have been trending way up.

Ever think that maybe it’s not just the receivers?

I’ve been beating this drum for years: the Patriots don’t give their skill players enough chances to get into any sort of rhythm. They haven’t for years.

If I was a WR coming out in the draft, the last team I’d want to go to is Nee England, and that included the last few years of Brady.
So looks like it's the coach.

Sanu had a very good game against the Ravens and then got injured. The following games he tried to tough it out for Tom but no can do. It was a terrible signing because he got injured.

He was busy against them that's true, though I wouldn't call his game very good either.

If Jonnu Smith and Agholor had never played for us, we would want to trade for them.
This is so true...then we'd trade them away for Parker and Juju all over again when they failed here.
Can't be the swimmers...gotta stop marrying barren women.

Maybe it's the guy picking these players.

Lol @ defending a guy saying he was good when he played 3 snaps.

I believe @upstater was looking at Thornton's routes in the Raiders game and quoted some specific examples, like the holding play across the middle where Thornton broke through the hold and was open for a TD (Mac never delivered the ball). If you look at the All22, Thornton is open a lot. Parker is not. Mac rarely throws to Reagor or Thornton - I am not sure why. Opposing defenses are playing to stop the run and pass blitz so the middle of the field is open behind the LBs. Mac finally started making those MOF throws against the Bills. Let's hope Mac continues to feel comfortable and starts making deep middle and deep sideline passes. Opponents are risking 1-on-1 in those areas and Mac does not capitalize. Maybe he will start against the Dolphins.

Mac gets frustrated with a porous line, and I would expect the guys running deep overs and flies are frustrated too because Mac never throws the ball to them, or if Mac does the ball is unplayable. The only exception is the deep ball to Parker which was perfectly thrown and Parker dropped.

10 receptions for 81 yards…not shabby but your right. I thought it was more yards.

Evan Lazar said he ran the wrong route on his third rep then was benched.

Thornton played 25 snaps against LV. Targeted twice. Don’t know how many of those snaps were runs. Or protection broke down. But the thing is, if somebody else is Mac’s first or second read and they’re open or if Mac gets hurried or panics before he gets to his third read, it doesn’t matter if Thornton gets open.

hopefully better OL play will give Mac time and stop his panic attacks and we’ll see better results for whoever is running deep routes.

That was in the Bills game. Will be interesting to see if he rides the bench or is inactive against the Phins because of it.

With Raegor being activated, that bum Juju potentially coming back, and Tyquan working with Slater as a gunner in practice, things don't look good for Mr. Thornton.

I'd say it depends on how he performs in practices. Bill was ansked about Boutte but it’s clear he means all of them.

“He’s in a very competitive situation. feel like we have a lot of competition at that position,” Belichick replied. “Everybody’s in it. Guys who perform the best play the most. The guys that don’t need to perform better.”

This seems to be popular opinion here, but 14 Targets/10 receptions for only 81 yards and a TD is not a very good game. In fact, this was the problem with their offense in 2019 - no chunk plays. It took forever for them to get downfield and when that happens, somebody will mess up.

He was put out to return a punt against Philly which he's only done once in his career. Why Bill put out a WR he just traded a 2nd round pick for who isn't quick or experienced in returning punts was yet another bizarre move by Bill. Sanu had mentioned in a Sports Illustrated article that he wanted to shut it down after that injury, but felt the pressure to keep playing after the Pats spent a 2nd round pick on him. He regrets the decision and thinks that made his injury worse and never recovered from it.

Lazar was talking about the third route of the Buffalo game. We are talking about the Raiders game. Two different games. You might reread the posts.

Yup, I agree on all that. BOB also said that Brady would recognize favorable matchups and start his read with those matchups, and then make reads after the first "most preferred" matchup. Mac will get there I think, but I doubt it will be this year. Right now I would be happy with a repeat of the Buffalo performance in Miami.

The problem with these bombs to speedsters is that when the QB releases the ball, the WR may not even have passed the CB yet (like TB12's TD pass to Patten in '01). Mac probably doesn't have that faith yet. I had calculated Mac needs to get it out in 2.25-2.5s for someone like TT to get it 50-60yds down the field. That's a ton of faith for someone whose job is hanging in the balance.

While I agree Boutte probably hasn’t earned the reps maybe in practice, how does Bill explain someone practicing well but almost aways sucking in real games? Obviously Douglas was the talk of training camp and must of practiced well. But he was benched for being stripped from behind? Juju sucks and Parker is immune from the coaches wrath for rookie mistakes and subpar play. But at least they practice well in practice. Kudos for loyalty to the people you brought in and sticking by them, but that’s not putting the team first as far as I’m concerned.

They probably can work it out and rep the routes in practice.

I had written out all of TT's passing snaps in the post game LV thread - seemed like the offense was very successful with him in there (if it cleared things underneath):
