Pats trade for JC Jackson

I would usually think of a former Patriot reclamation project as a progress stopper but with Jack Jones, Marcus Jones, and Christian Gonzalez all missing all or a good chunk of the season there isn't really any progress for Jackson to stop. Just a brutal year for our cornerback group.

What's Jonathan Jones timeline?
His situation has been weird. There seems to be talk that he is close each week and he wasn't put on IR but every Sunday he shows up on the inactive list. I hope it isn't some weird lingering issue that hangs around all year.

Very disappointing about Gonzalez, hope was a strong rookie season, take the leap in year two, etc. Can still happen of course, just too bad

I'm finding it sort of depressing to think about the patriots these days

Wonderful - now we can have both Jack J. & JC Telling us how great they are and how much better they are than Christian G….

I hate this move.

1. Means Gonzo is gonzo for a long period of time
2. JC has been an injury prone loafer for the Bolts and quit vs BUF in the playoff game.

...but JC is better than Myles Away Bryant and Wade

I’m all for renting JC Jackson for 1.5 million. He plays well you can still restructure his deal (nobody is paying him 10+ million per next year) and his skill set would be great as a CB2 across a shutdown CB (2018-2020). He’s only 27 and I think he could transition to FS even with Gonzalez & Jones x3 at CB.

For this season he keeps Bryant away from outside CB duties. Hopefully he has something left.

I love this move. Not for this season but for the future. I’ll watch every game the rest of the season as I do every year and I hope the team proves me wrong but I just don’t believe this team has the horses on offense to make a play for the Lombardi this year. As a move for the future though? Love it. I’m assuming that he will be healthy. Going into next season with a top trio of Jackson, Gonzo and Ja. Jones (if he gets his head out of his ass) is fantastic. Throw in a year of development for Mapu and White…that’s a damn good defense. Now they have to decide what they will do with Uche and Dugs. If you have no future plans for either of ‘em, find a trade partner and either snag some top 3 picks or go out and trade for a guy like Higgins. Get that priority in contract negotiations, see if he’s a fit. Any comp picks are going to be wiped out with any big signings BB makes and with all the cap space they have, I assume there will be a few. Target WR’s and OL during the offseason and draft yourself at least 2 other qb’s to compete. No more of these small new wave of qb’s. They need a big guy that will stand in the face of pressure and fire his shots.

I don't love the move, because it means Gonzalez is out. Obviously they know what the player is and how to coach him, with little to know cost and/or risk. Upgrade from Bryant. Stop gap thru the end of the year until Gonzalez is back.

It's interesting me to me how much this goes down party lines here, though. You guys that hate everything this team does, well, here you are, *****ing.

Man, a win goes a long way this week.

Gonzalez, Jackson and the Jones trio potentially in 2024 could be pretty good,

Go put Gonzalez on an island, Jackson with safety help, and then 2 of the Jones in the Nickle and Dime

This is straight up amateur hour. Jackson can’t run anymore since his injury. And what’s with the arrest warrant. What about the salary?
Try reading the rest of the thread. All those things have been addressed.

Once we get jon and jack jones back, a healthy jcj would still be an upgrade over last years cb’s. Jack and jcj on the outside with Jonathan inside where hes at his best. If jcj is done, perhaps mills could fill in at cb on the outside cb2 and Jonathan inside

Hope he’ll do a Chung and be even better the second time around and not a Collins who was pretty ineffective the 2nd time.

Am I the only one who find disturbing the fact that with no corner he can find a trade in 2 days but with no receiver the last 2 years he can’t find a trade?

Bill will invest without a problem in the side of the ball that make him look good but he couldn’t care less about offense. He doesn’t want the team to win. He wants the team to win because of him.
There is also an in between, which isn't too bad. We just don't have any corners left (and he's no doubt better than any CB5's we would be trotting out there) so he'll get more time than Collins and he's a fit here so there's very little down side here.

What receiver that will cost you $2m do you want them to trade for?

A lot #1 CBs can't cover Diggs, Hill, or Waddle. Two of the three of those guys are elite and one isn't that far behind. I never said the guy would be Revis in his prime or even what Gonzalez was giving the Pats this season. But a good #1 CB can cover most #1 WRs, but still can struggle quite a bit with the elite ones.

Over two games there wasn't one stop and JC was in the center of it.

I like the move because Gonzo is not coming back, but JC was not a real #1.
