Pats trade for JC Jackson

This does save the Chargers a little bit of the initial $40M guaranteed, but it also means they paid a hair under $5.5M per game, $38.5M for 7 games.

late round swap of picks?

chargers eating the majority of this years deal?

eh, I like it.

Welcome Back Kotter

We shall see. There are 4 weak teams in the next 6 games.
The team needs to grow and improve. That’s what competitive sports are.
I dunno. Last year I heard writers and posters here say "All the problems the Pats have are coachable and correctable". And they were neither. I'm hearing more of the same (well, I did before the Dallas game). It's a talent gap issue. The Pats, as one poster was named, don't have "weapunz".

Hope he’ll do a Chung and be even better the second time around and not a Collins who was pretty ineffective the 2nd time.

Am I the only one who find disturbing the fact that with no corner he can find a trade in 2 days but with no receiver the last 2 years he can’t find a trade?

Bill will invest without a problem in the side of the ball that make him look good but he couldn’t care less about offense. He doesn’t want the team to win. He wants the team to win because of him.

They moved on from an e aoverrated guy who sucked in their system I think we are getting that player. Take your rose colored glasses off.
We are down 4 corners and are getting a guy who was good for 4 years here and bad for 1 elsewhere.
There is no negative in this.

They could have cut him at the same cost.

Surprisingly opinions don’t decide football games, so we will have to see what the results are. They aren’t in yet.

Hopefully his contract is restructured and turns into a good #2 or really good #3 option. Not expecting anything close to the all pro season we saw. Just be solid.

If Jackson becomes a good #1 CB again. Would that be enough for the Chargers to cut loose their idiot head coach?

I'm waiting for a move on the Offensive side of the ball which desperately NEEDS help if you haven't noticed. Seems like BB haven't noticed either.

IF Jackson becomes a good #1 again?? I'm lowering the bar hoping this got paid JC Jackson is a #3.

I've been hoping they traded for him since last year. He's a severely depressed asset that I think the Chargers are simply mismanaging. I think he will bounce back here. He may not be as good as he used to be but he'll be solid. If we can get to a place where we have Jon Jones, JC Jackson and Jack Jones out there, they'll be more than fine. If Gonzo eventually comes back, they'll be freakin' elite. And JC is signed for several years so even if Gonzo isn't back this year, next year, things will look good... Color me optimistic.
He was brutal in Charger uniform

You can't have Myles Bryant playing on the boundaries.

I'm assuming a contract restructure is in the works.

I read that his salary has been lowered to $1.5M as part of the deal.

Is there anything out there similar to JC on offense? Experience and success in our system that can be had for pennies on the dollar?

I'm not saying we shouldn't try harder then the above but JC just made way too much sense and I don't know of anything so obvious on offense.

As much as this is good for this year, I think that they also like having him on the hook for three more very cheap years. So, assuming he does ok, maybe next year he takes over the Myles Bryant role?

You don't know if he can turn into a #1 or not. Belichick has a history of making guys who are mid at best look good at the CB role and then they go somewhere else and suck. That is the one position where he consistently works magic with lesser talent.

If the Chargers are eating most of this year's salary and the Pats swapped a 6th for a 7th, I see that as a win for the Pats. At worst, he is an one year rent a player who is washed up. At best, he becomes a legitimate #1 CB again this year and possibly redoes his deal next offseason and becomes the #2 CB opposite Gonzalez.

I know he had a run and got paid where we might have thought to be a #1 corner, but did you see those Buffalo games?

I wonder if they are thinking of moving Mills back to CB full time.

Feels like they should, or at least skew his responsibilities more that way. Like instead of playing a roving safety role who sometimes mans up on tight ends, you play him against some of the bigger, slower WR's (like another team's Parker equivalent) when those matchups are available. I know he prefers safety, but all bets are off when you lose your top FOUR corners within the first four weeks of the season.

Best case scenario in the short term is they get Jon and Jack back soon, and can role out JC and Jack on the outside, with Jon in the slot and Mills in spot duty. Assuming they can cobble together 70-80% of a Judon with a combination of other players, the defense can live with that lineup. Not a big margin for error if there's more injuries, but hey, that's the game.

And he can't cover anybody in a Buffalo or Miami uniform.

I did my virgin eyes.
