While I agree with your overall premise, it took 7 years for Holmgren to win a playoff game.

Reid didn’t win a playoff game after McNabb left the Eagles before getting fired. It also took him 7 years to win a playoff game between the Eagles and Chiefs. Reid and his Chiefs teams were always mediocre and lucky to be in the playoffs, but never going to be a threat until Mahomes showed up.

I’m too young for the Shula years.

Shula is an overrated little ***** who got Johnny Unitas for most of his prime. The Baltimore team tore through everyone in the regular season in the 60s and **** the bed in almost every big game. They made it to the NFL-AFL championship game in 68 and **** the bed against the Jets.

He then went to Miami in a tampering scandal and won with a stacked Dolphins team with Griese and those HoFamers in 72 and 73, followed by down years.

Then they got Marino in 83 and he failed in big games for about 15 years.

He had Unitas, Griese, and Marino for the large majority of his career, mostly ****ting the bed when it mattered most, and when he had a garbage QB his team was garbage like the rest of them.

Apparently the critical posters on this board DO have better offense roster building judgment than BB
20 plus million per year for this GM’s inept offense?

Mac does not have the makeup or mental fortitude to be a starter in this league… period

I’m torn about the offense going forward. On one hand I would’ve liked to see Mac with a strong offensive line and at least 1 stud WR that puts some fear in opposing defenses.

On the other hand I think I’ve seen enough to know he isn’t a legitimate starting QB, rather a very good backup.

I’m leaning towards just ripping the bandaid off and moving forward. This team will be picking in the top ten and next years draft class is loaded with QB top end talent.

Brady lasted three seasons, it's not like he's still in the league. And the championship in Tampa solidified his legacy and quieted all the people who would still be talking about whether or not Manning/Rodgers/Mahomes were better had he not gotten #7 there on his own.

Needless to say, it worked out just fine for him.

The only difference would essentially be we'd be in the first year of someone else right now, with no guarantees life would be grand. All of this was coming. All keeping Brady would have done would have been to delay the inevitable, and if they won a bunch of games, they wouldn't have had a pick high enough to land anyone viable.
Also let's be real, the 2020-2022 teams weren't any better than the 2019 team. So it's not like Brady was going to win a SB with any of them

The inevitable "Mac is still our guy" BS has already been said, we will get yet another episode of "Corky, the Cowardly QB".

He does not have the mental makeup to be an NFL QB - poor recognition of formations and calling out the OL protection leading to jailbreak rushes, no ability to go through his progressions and spot open receivers (however rare they may be), utter panic when a rusher comes free, no innate sense of when the pocket has broken down, throwing ducks off of his back foot that have zero chance for completion, refusal to throw the ball away when a play breaks down, lack of arm strength to make tough throws into coverage or sideline throws, no running ability...what does he do well? Whenever he has had to drive for a score (prior to this ****show), have you ever felt the slightest bit of "he's going to take the team downfield and win this game"? I never have, and he's yet to prove me wrong.

Zappe had composure and didn't make any bonehead plays, threw the ball away when there was nothing there, appears to be comfortable being in the pocket, steps up to throw...I am not going to use the pre-season and the even worse incarnation of the OL as a criteria. You can see someone who has presence and is focusing versus someone who just can't keep calm and lets their adrenaline make their decisions. I saw that last year too, hence was on the Zappe bandwagon. I wanted Mac to prove me wrong, instead he's just shown I was an optimist.
Zappe came in when the game was essentially lost with zero pressure. He went 4-9, 44% (which is lower than Mac). Had a 6.3 average (which was lower than Mac). His QBR was only 5 points higher than Mac. And he had a 65 passer rating vs Mac's 39. Zappe got swarmed and had negative plays in the three drives he was in. Mac didn't really make a boneheaded play until the end of the first half. Zappe didn't play for close to that long and wasn't feeling the pressure all night. And when he did, he did nothing.

This is the same **** as last year where Zappe comes in with training wheels and does next to nothing but people pretend he's better because they are down on Mac. Then when he actually gets the nod he plays even worse. He also has even worse tangibles. He has an objectively worse arm (which is still Mac's biggest weakness).

Zappe sucks coming in late and not throwing an INT when he has no prospects of winning isn't really showing much. If the dude was making big plays, maybe we can talk, but he wasn't even making better plays than Mac.

You never know with TB12 you always had a shot
He was that good
We saw Brady in 2019. They didn't have a shot then. He had a better defense than that team and as bad as the offense was, he still had Edelman and Gordon for a good chunk of the year.

We also saw 2022 Brady once his line declined. It wasn't good and he had his first losing season.

This 2023 Patriots team would be the worst squad he's ever played for. That's not hyperbole either. Love Brady, but his best case scenario on this team isn't much better than what happened last year. And in case you forgot.... Dallas beat Brady 31-14 in the playoffs to knock out his 8-9 team. And Dallas was up 31- 6 late in the 4th in that game. That was within Dallas' last 5 games as well. So that's what Brady on a mediocre team was doing against this team we just played. Love Brady, but nobody was making a difference here.

we have to continue playing mac, even if I believe zappe is 50/50 better than mac

we HAVE to know what mac has before this regular season ends, so that's that, if we do sit mac at some point this year, it needs to be after were 110% sure we don't care to pick up the option

our QB today gave the other team 14 points directly...you take 14 away from them and give us 7 in return and it's much more of a game

They still won the division...
We also don't know how he would fare with this set of weapons or Oline. Tom also made Olines look better than what they actually with his fast release
My main point is there was always a shot with Tom and this team is missing leaders, grit, and determination also

They won the division with a losing record. It was the worst record of his career. Let's please not act like that isn't a freak anomaly or that it was some miracle only Tom Brady could perform. They didn't have a shot that year. Throw them in any other division in the league and they don't make the playoffs. Once they made the playoffs, they got crushed by the team we just played.

And Brady was down 31-6 late in the 4th in a road game against Dallas 5 games ago. And many people would argue this Dallas team is much better than the one Brady played last year. Oh and he had Mike Evans and Chris Godwin in that game

Eh they did beat that team we just played last year in week 1 haha.
My main point is that with TB12 there was always a shot or some hope no matter how dim. We need that attitude back again it left with TB, The Squirrel and McCourty

Brady took a team to the AFCCG with Caldwell and a 35 year old Troy Brown as his two top receivers in 2006.

Brady would march an offense up and down the field with Hunter, Geisicki, and Douglas in the slot.

We saw Brady not march the offense up and down the field against this Dallas team with Evans and Godwin 5 games ago lol
