Article writer thinks BOB would be a decent pick for Michigan State HC job, mentioned for one sentence in article on SI

I have no idea if Bill, Mac or BOB will be back next season but if Bill and Mac are back it would be brutal to have Mac on his 4th OC in 4 years. Those types of things destroy QBs.
It's up to BOB and I feel if he gets a good opportunity I think he'll take it. Of course that would be horrible if you're Mac.

This Richard Johnson just did two minutes of Internet sleuthing and pulled a few names out of the ether to put his own spin on it. Such as the Tulane coach and the Pats OC.

Meanwhile, I have been following this story daily. Bill O’Brien’s name had never been bandied about.

It’s the Internet, folks. **** Johnson wrote falsely. It’s wrong. Fake news as Brick27 wrote.

I think Mayo was promised the Head Coaching job.

I am guessing O'Brien saw the handwriting on the wall and that Bama was going to be crap (by their standards) and got out while the getting was good.

If he was promised anything post Belichick, I am guessing it would be he would have a job like being the Head Coach of the offense where he would have total control and Mayo would be head coach and primarily focused on the defense, special teams, and overall team. We see a few of those head coaches today where they really are more glorified coordinators where they only focus on one side of the ball and lets someone else run the other side.

If Belichick retires or is fired after this season, I hope whoever they have at head coach they get someone more innovative to be OC. Mike McDaniel is a bit goofy as a head coach, but he has really transformed the Dolphins' offense into a powerhouse with a QB who really isn't much better than Mac Jones.
Zero football coaches ever have said “wow looks like it’s going to tougher next year after losing players to the nfl so I should run away”

I read it online in a Pats article.
No you didn’t. You read something about Kraft commenting about OBrien as a Head Coach and changed it to something he didn’t say.

Mayo’s not even a coordinator, not that it’s a prerequisite for the job… but he’s really inexperienced as far as head coaches go.

I understand that Mayo is the sentimental favorite, but that doesn’t make him the wise choice.

Obie has a lot of experience, has experienced a lot since he left us the first time. Give me the experienced guy.
Mayo from what reports were does everything on the defense except call plays.. he runs the meetings sets the game plans coordinates with BB who starts or backs up.. Mayo is entrenched in the organization. However he had to be given assurance in his contract in order to stick around. He had plenty of opportunities elsewhere. I just hope it doesn't turn into an eric beinemny situation where he'd have to go to grow!

Dude isn't leaving. Not yet anyway.

How many successful recent head coaches never called plays?

I have no idea, you tell me?

Here is Kraft on Mayo:

Jerod is an individual I think there’s no ceiling for his ability to grow and how competent he is,” Kraft said. “We had the privilege of having him as a player and I saw how intense he was and the leadership skills he had on the field. I saw him leave us and go into private industry and learn

the X’s and O’s of business and then come back and be a coach and do that with us. Good coaches get hired away, so I was happy we were able to sit with him and try to keep him here long term. I’m going to do everything I can to try to make that happen.”

And this:

On Monday, Robert Kraft indicated he already knows who he'd prefer to replace the soon-to-be 71-year-old Belichick whenever the six-time Super Bowl-winning coach walks away from the NFL. The answer: one of Belichick's former players and current assistant coaches, Jerod Mayo.
"Well, he's definitely a strong candidate to be the heir apparent, but we have some other good people in our system," Kraft told NFL Network's Judy Battista at the Annual League Meeting on Monday. "So right now, we have a good head coach, and we're doing everything we can to support him, and make sure we do everything we can to win."

Hey, anything can happen. Rodgers only lasted 4 plays for the Jete. Then again, it's the Jete.

That isn't true. Coaches aren't going to come out and say it though. But I am sure there are plenty of coaches that are in demand like O'Brien who look at their situation in their current role and determine whether they should move because their stock could dip because of lack of talent.

If O'Brien stayed at Alabama this year, his stock would drop because they don't have talent. Look at some of the talk about Saban. Some people are already questioning if the game has passed him by and whether he should call it quits.

No coach thinks that way. They simply don’t. If you believe in your ability you don’t run away from challenges. The basic attitude inherent in coaching is to take on challenges and overcome adversity.
I’m sure there are many people who fear they aren’t competent enough to succeed if everything isn’t perfectly in their favor, but few of them become coaches and none of them succeed to the level they are relevant.

This has been repeated many times as if it were a fact but to my knowledge it was reported once and not necessarily confirmed. To think we know the nature of how the coaching staff operates because of one article is a huge stretch.
Also I think your description has vastly expended upon what that article said.
It’s unfathomable that mayo creates a game plan, decides who are starters and back ups then sits back while SB calls the game. No one would ever set it up that way.
Ultimately what is really happening is they share the responsibilities of DC with both involved in every aspect and SB makes the calls with Mayo involved in that process.

Ok. Thank you for your insight. Sometimes I like to watch Boston sports tonight, and that's where you get information that isn't necessarily reported on a tweet, ect. Curran is the person who mentioned exactly what I posted this was last season on an episode. He also mentioned it on his WEEI weekly appearance on radio. He stated mayo does everything except call the plays.

I’d be fine with Billy O as HC, Mayo as DC, can the nepotism babies, bring in a sharp OC, see what we have.

I recall the Krafts liking Billy O.

At least press conferences might have some actual substance.

False

Of course it’s not false otherwise you would be able to cite it. If I am not mistaken you have already been called out on this a few times and never been able to back it up. Of course then you just wait a couple of months and retell the lie.
It’s your MO
