Carolina Tony, actually I was talking to NSA, who I believed specified calling Dillon. Don't know if they'd have any league rules to cope with if they did so. They would have done it by now, and kept it quiet, ya gotta figure. As I understand it, we're getting hit for dead money for Dillon, which means we just pay the man and the cap hit never really even happens... it's almost a freebie except, oh yeah, um, he might be sort of done by now. As I said, can't hurt to have him on the line, especially if he's cap-free.
But I don't really see much in terms of recognition of the levels of uncertainty we still have with the kid. We do have a bunch of self-congratulatory types considering Maroney done, based on a few bad games.
I contend, and most agree, that he hasn't been a home run, but he's not a strikeout either. A single, thus far. Now the "Advisor" says maybe draft in the 3rd round, evidently less willing to back Run DMc as a panacea. Now we're going to hang the future on a lower pick, evidently tried out until someone pans out.
The basics of this argument seem to be:
- There are a few guys around this league who are super awesome
- There are a lot of guys who are good enough to start but not super awesome
- Since some teams have super awesome running backs, and we do not, we have to get one (not a bad idea, if you can do it,)... and here's the flawed part...
- We have to immediately derail all plans and reweight all evaluations in order to secure a super awesome running back, the lack of which we just recently discussed.
Since it's been established that turning up a super-awesome running back in the draft is no simple matter, it is now suggested that Dallas will obligingly trade us Marion Barber plus their first round pick, for our SF pick. So now it's trades for somebody else's prospect, because ours isn't good enough.
Well, I love Barber, I really do. But I'm not done with LoMo yet, and I'm certainly not about to flip-flop based on some impatient fan on a bulletin board, especially not to the tune of our #1 (#2 overall) pick in the next draft. In Bill we Trust, of course; however they handle it is fine by me. They seem to have had a fairly decent track record in draft/FA over the years.
But nahhhhh I don't think we need to target RB right now.
