Different situations. Plaxico was AWARE of the gun in his pocket. Jones was UNPROVEN to be aware....which kind of makes sense because who the hell could be so stupid to bring two loaded guns through TSA? Pre-9/11 I could see it happening....but since then? So stupid....so I gotta say ignorance in this case was for real. He just didn't know.
IF you feel you need to protect yourself as an NFL athlete or anyone with status.. hire private security.. I mean seriously. That is the logical thing to do.. IMO.

Godell has never honored his own precedents. He decides by licking his finger and holding it up to see which way the wind blows.
Good points Mike.. people forget he works for the owners. The owners are the NFL.. such as the players pays dues to the NFLPA.. the owners pay his 50 million salary,. So we all will be watching what he decides on Jack...

Same with taking an Uber...

I can't figure out why anyone with $$$$ would get a DUI neither...

Exactly, get an Uber save your life and others! I know Jack has had a tough upbringing... but you don't get to this level and sqander it. I'm sure he knows he's on borrowed time with the team. Good thing is Jack has all those savy vets around him. Slater, judon, Jon, mills, peppers, Phillips, guy, .. they will be the locker room justice.

Comical really. Happy to see Mass takes those draconian gun laws seriously.

As a Pats fan happy to see him able to play. But watching this kind of special treatment is mind numbing.

Hopefully the kid learned his lesson but they usually don't until they face serious consequences for their actions.

There’s a medium between decades in prison and 48 hours of community service.
There's also a purpose and a principle behind laws. This law is there to stop gun smuggling and for obvious hijacking reasons, not to be a gotcha for people making a mistake and being absent minded. The safety precautions are there for a reason after all

Can the rest of us stroll through Logan security with a loaded gun, claim ignorance and get let off the hook?

Not celebrating him getting a free pass for the sake of the team. How long until he screws up his second chance?
It’s hardly a free pass. Yes, he avoids jail, but he’s not off scot-free.

And while I agree that the average person would not be so fortunate as to be escape with the lightweight consequences Jones has, I don’t see why anyone should hold that against him. That’s not Jones’ fault; it’s the fault of our society, politics, and justice system. It’s indication something is wrong and is worthy of discussion, absolutely. But again, this imbalance/inequity in how our justice system functions is not something Jones is personally responsible for.

Speaking as someone who got a DUI. The drunk mind doesn't think "Hmm save a life and thousands of dollars by getting a ride I can easily afford or potentially kill someone and ruin my life and career"

It's more of a "I'm pretty sure I'm ok to drive and I probably won't get caught and that's better than spending money on a taxi home and then having to get up and pick my car up in the morning"

I'm not saying it's right obviously but that's the drunk man's rationale

You think a rookie 4th round pick can afford to hire 24x7 travelling private security? A gun is a wee bit more affordable...

In most of the rest of the country, carrying a gun is a way of life. In Mass it isn’t, but when you guys head up to NH and Maine you don’t need a license or a class or anything, just put it in your pocket and go. Kinda funny how the crime rate is soo much higher in Mass.

Kid did something stupid. He got his wrist slapped like anyone else with a good lawyer would have. This isn’t some super special omg sweetheart of a deal for nfl players. Won’t be good if it happens again, but we all make mistakes.

Well said.

If I decide to break into a house or **** with someone's property or family, I'm not doing it up here in NH. That's called suicide.

I doubt he changed his residency over to Mass. But It's possible. If he didn't then he had the pistol in the state illegally in the first place.

And I'm sorry being absent minded about a pistol is BS. If you "forget" where your pistol is maybe you aren't responsible enough to be walking around with one.

I carry my MP 2.0 with me every where I go either in my vehicle or on my person. At no point have I been in a situation where I was like "now what did I do with my gun?"

Sorry just can't buy that and there is no excuse to not be a responsible gun owner.

I do get your point of why the law is there. But still no excuse for being that absent minded.

Not to defend being an idiot or anything here but realistically there is no real reason for him to bring a gun on his carry on OTHER than plain stupidity. Me and you (well I'll speak for myself I guess) are experienced adults who know better. I've been carrying a gun since I was 22 or so and I'm 33 now. I know to be very careful about where I carry, how I carry, how to travel, etc with a gun. This guy is young and dumb. Maybe it wasn't being forgetful and he really did just throw it in his carry on assuming it was fine. But the bottom line is there wasn't any bad intent and I think intent matters in victimless crimes

Retrospectively, it's amazing how wrong this board was about this (by and large).

Here's Curran with a lawyer saying the legal community always guessed the charges would be dropped:

Point is, the state had to prove he knew he had guns in the bag, and the huge problem was that if so, why would he attempt to take the bag through security?

It's also now clear that the Pats and the league also knew the charges wouldn't stick.

Also not to throw this into a political debate or turn this forum into northeastshooters.com but I think non residents might have an easier time bringing handguns into the state ever since SCOTUS bodyslammed the may issue aspect of licensing into a trashcan. I don't know for sure or not. And I'm too busy taking a dump to research it lol

Especially when it takes 5 minutes to declare it with the airline in your checked baggage.

Actually I fly tomorrow and for the first time in a long time I will be traveling without my gun. Will be spending most of the time in California, but flying into Phoenix and it's not worth the hassle of locking it up in a case in the trunk. And it's rural California small town.

I will feel naked without it.

I flew to Montana from Logan for a vacation and I thought I was going to have the KGB throw me in a cell and torture me when I went to check in my gun at Logan. Instead they were like yeah whatever here's a form fill it out and you're set. It really is easy when you're paranoid and do your research lol
