Malik Cunningham = QB1

Dude made plays against guys that won't be in the league in 3 weeks. Good for him. @Patsgofor4 has it right. McSorely is out, Cunningham makes the 53. Let's see how he does vs real NFLers. 32 teams passed on this guy for 6 rounds. Glad he is here, glad he made plays, but let's not anoint him just yet.

Overreaction Monday isn’t till next month.
You would think. Over on the GDT (went back in to see how much stupid we'd end up with) there's some guy saying "usually you hope for some glimmer of hope from one of the young guys but not this time" or some such ****. Evidently didn't know we had a defense out there too.

My big takeaway is, our backup OL is really bad. This doesn't NOT matter, because we will end up playing some of them. It's not the same as if they were the first string.

Things I liked:
- A few more reps for Zappe, it's fun watching Malik C. .... it's not a 3-headed QB controversy when nobody excels though, and running the ball in against the other team's 3s isn't excelling. But it's legit fun to watch all 3. It's not like the Brady days when you're watching the 4 Tom reps and then might as well turn off the TV

- Thornton comes off the milk carton and does not fail. Between now and September, can he show enough to get back with the starting team? Is he perhaps running with the 2s and 3s because we want to convince ourselves he's the real deal before promoting him back to the 1s?

- The defense, certainly through 1st half. Unless this game is an aberration, White is a legit beast and Gonzo is at least a nice addition with skills and size... I want to say he's a beast too but I'm trying to be careful. Without an O, they'll still get the crap beaten out if them, but if we show some offensive competence to give them breathers, this defense could be scary. They're as good as the O lets them be, by occasionally getting off the field.

- Brendan Schooler are you F kidding me... special teams baton in the process of being passed.

- I don't podcast but if I did I would sign up for the McCourty twincast in a heartbeat, love those guys

- Better yet, freakin fire Zoloft and hire them

I see what's happening... I am getting all pumped up just in time to get Rodgersed in the regular season. Fuggit, at least we'll see him eat turf a time or two in the process,

The beginning....the same thing they said about Brady, 6th round, a nobody...versus 1st round pick Bledsoe. We shall see...lol!

It is primed for non-contextualized hype, but the fact is - if the OL is going to be garbage, Malik is a better option at QB2 than Zappe.
I realize he probably knows a fraction of the offense, but from what we saw, I think he should be 100% in QB bootcamp the next 2 weeks.
And, let him play with the 1's / 2's for a couple series in the 3rd preseason game to see what he's ready for.

I've never seen a guy get his helmet ripped off quite like that. The defender grabbed his facemask and turned the helmet all the way around across Malik's face before it came off his head. Brutal.

While I'll agree, But he has the elements that can't be coached natural speed and athleticism.. heck if he continues to play like he did the rest of pre season he may end up QB2.. every one out there last night was 2nd year players, rookies, UDFAs. Here is some other things I've noticed. Douglas didn't play at all. That pretty much IMO says how much the team thinks of him , and he's likely a starter on offense presumably. Keon white is an absolute force.

Agreed on these points.

I mean he broke all Lamar Jackson's records on college. That has to mean something right?
It means a lot in colllege, not so much in the NFL

Sure, but Jackson is electric in the NFL. So even though it might be miniscule. There's a tiny chance the Patriots are hoping they can turn him into a Jackson clone.

Really good to see our (2nd string) D handle them pretty well - even though that team is laughably low on impact players.
CG, White, and even Jennings looked good.
And Stroud should not have been playing as a "starter" - he's not ready. Mills showed why he's been the starter the last 2 years.
And poor Keenum - It was like he was a grownup playing with the sandlot. I'd love to have him as our QB2.

Agreed on these points.
My thinking is this.. Cunningham will make it hard for BB not to keep him on the roster. Mac is the guy.. I personally feel Mac is going to have a great season and ultimately not take a home discount.. why should he when Daniel jones is making 40 million. With that being said.. if Cunningham continues to develop as A QB.. IMO down the line we could very have the next coming of Lamar...

I honestly thought he was a token camp scout QB. And I've never counted him as a legit WR for this year.
But, he didn't just run around, he stood tough in that useless pocket (or on un-planned bootlegs) and threw pretty well.
I wonder if the coaches are re-ordering their priorities today to try to give him a legit chance to test the rest of preseason.

He and Jackson are very similar.. just have such a good feeling about Cunningham..
