Ok so is Malik on the roster or not? Is Ryland on the roster or not? You said he was brung in for a "try out"?
There are 90 people competing for 53 jobs, that’s a tryout.
And I can assure you I never used the word “brung”

What teams are they starting for?
The point is that while there may end up being no starting free agent QB this year, so what, as there have been notable successful free agent QBs in the modern NFL.

Sure but _______ says hello is usually a way to say someone is wrong. He wasn’t.

There’s a role for him somewhere on the team. I sure hope he is on the 53.

I think i Heard 30 snaps for Jones, 30 snaps for Zappe, 5 for Malik today...

Yes. What did you think, they guaranteed him
a roster spot?

If he makes the 53 after Cut-Down Day, especially if he doesn't play well or at all during the next two weeks, then Yes.

1) What exactly has he done that is a surprise to evaluators? He did the same things he did against college competition, against college competition. And I suppose you might consider they know a lot more about him than you do and they evaluate him less blindly optimistically than you do. Not to mention we are talking about 31 other teams’ opinions in regard to him clearing waivers.

2) Not a straw man at all. The argument was “we can’t put him in waivers because he will get claimed”. The fact that other teams evaluated him before the draft and chose not to draft him is relevant. The fact that he had 1 drive showing what was known to be his strength vs players who will not be in the NFL is relevant to whether those opinions would be changed by it.
When you have a baseball player with immense power he strikes out way too much, hitting a home run in his first at bat doesn’t change the evaluation. Especially if it’s in September in a 10-0 game against a minor call up.

3) You brought up the “number thing” not me. He was paid an inconsequential amount that you claimed to be influential in the decision.

Piss all you want, facts are still facts.
I see your point, but I think you're discounting the Monk's point that a lot has transpired since the draft what with Roster changes due to evals, Minicamps, Training Camp, and the sample size in the preseason game as WR and QB. They (non Pats teams) can evaluate changes in his route running, blocking, reads, mechanics (or whatever fancy stuff football people talk about that I wouldn't begin to have a clue about). Heck, he's even trying returns now.

The fact of the matter is, I laugh when (hypothetical) people diss preseason game performances but get wowed by college tape where the talent can be soooooo much worse than the people who actually make it just this far (on the 90 playing in a preseason game).

This is the guy (Jake Hansen) whom Malik absolutely embarrassed - same one who stripped Derrick Henry for a fumble in the 4thQ of a real game last year which was a pivotal moment that led to one of the Texans' 2 wins.

He can earn one, they certainly didn’t guarantee him one

But that’s exactly the point, nothing has changed. He played one drive against scrubs, and nothing he did changed anyone’s opinions except people who knew nothing about him. Nobody who evaluated him was surprised by what he did in that game.

Other teams can’t evaluate his practices.

I simply don’t understand what people think was this breakthrough moment where professionals who evaluated him watched the preseason game and said oh my god if we knew he could do that we would have drafted him.
Every player in every camp is capable of making plays. When they do fans act as if they just unleashed a secret hidden ability that no one who evaluated them for a living was aware of. They wouldn’t be in a camp if the expectation was they are incapable
