Zeke???

Elliot would be a good signing for the Patriots. Give him
30-40% of the carries to keep both fresh for late and post season. Has some wear and tear but only 28 and a beast at his best. Good in red zone, good receiver too, dangerous on screens.
If his ego was in check, absolutely! Sign em up. He may not be an electric runner, but he’s perfect for those winter home games.

Does he still want to play now that he realizes that nobody is paying him anything worthwhile? With $70M in career earnings and basically no shot of getting a big contract again, seems like he could just decide his body has had enough. Some guys just really want to play football regardless of the money (like Jamie Collins making $356k last year), but Zeke doesn’t quite strike me as that kind of player.

I could see a vet coming in for camp. I would prefer someone that has some back ground in this scheme.
I agree Stevenson was used too much last season.
I think we see Harris given a lot of snaps this preseason to show out.
If Montgomery is at full health, I also think he could be good for 30-40 rcpts.
old friend Burkhead had 37 rcpts last season and a catch% over 72%. he knows BB and BOB's schemes, and willingly plays ST.
at 33 yrs old, prob not, but worth a look?

I'd rather have Cook or a RB who could effect both the run and passing game.

Zeke does nothing in the pass game.

I don't think this is true. Zeke had 77 catches one year, and 50+ two other years. He's not Christian McCaffrey or James White as a receiving back, but he contributes more than most early down backs would. I've also heard he's decent in pass protection, but I have no source for that on hand so I won't argue that side too strongly.

Zeke, Cook, Fournette, Hunt are all guys that I think could help the team, but shouldn't be treated like priority free agents for this Patriots team. Now that the Hopkins ship has sailed, unless a high quality OT suddenly comes available (very unlikely), they're better off using the cap space to extend some players and reduce future hits so they can strike at the next opportunity.

Now, if we get a week or two into training camp, and one of those guys still isn't signed and suddenly would come in on a 1 year, short money prove it deal, I'm all for it. Especially because, by that point in TC, they should have a good idea whether Strong or Harris are poised to take a second year leap or not. And while wide receivers may not view the Patriots as a place to rehabilitate their value, New England is definitely still a place where running backs are featured, so the incentive might be there for them.

He's a lot like a bigger version of Damien Harris, he can catch a swing pass or toss and makes something of it.

What Rhamondre or Cooks can do differently is flex outside and catch balls over their shoulder like a WR. It's harder to defend because the opponent has to commit a LB to cover someone in a mismatch. I'd take Zeke... for two bits.

It’s not true as you pointed out. Elliot is also excellent on screens.

Barry Sanders could catch a screen, he wasn't Marshall Faulk.

Faulk could line up at WR, Sanders couldn't.

Rhamondre and Dalvin Cook can lineup at WR.

I am guessing you'd have to pay for the brand equity. Fine on a prove it deal I guess. I would rather invest prove it money on a WR like Golladay or Landry.

THIS.

Let's see if Harris can be a nice BIG back up that can move the chains.

Let's see if Pierre Strong takes a year 2 leap.

Let's see if Montgomery doesn't get hurt and becomes our hybrid guy.

If none of the above...then I say gimme Kareem Hunt.

IMO, Cook would just be too much $$$ and has missed 24 games in his career (1,228 carries in 6 years)...although that home run ability is a nice thing to have....

Zeke has a lot of mileage (1,881 carries in 7 years)...but he would be a nice addition.

Fournette (1,132 carries in 6 years) had trouble blocking for Brady last year in the Dallas playoff game...not sure if he has any gas left in the tank.

Hunt? The guy basically was suspended....and in a time share for the last few years... (895 carries in 6 years) this guy absolutely killed us in those games vs. the Chiefs...yeah...maybe some illegal blocking....but he ran hard in Cleveland when he had chances.

Agreed. Plus, he’s an excellent pass protector.

So?
And no Rhamobdre isn’t lining up at WR any more than we used to put Marc edwards out there in an empty backfield lol.
Every pass Stevenson caught last year was on the exact same route Elliot has run his whole career
And Dalvin Cook is not a wr either outside of your imagination.

We have playoff lennie in for a workout, basically same concept as Zeke. Aside from the Buckeye aspect.

Who is giving him more $$?
I'm saying that the Pats will go with the cheapest option. Hes not going to be cheap. Zeke still probably comes in at around $5 million or something. If Lenny wants $2 million or less with incentives they'll go with Lenny. No question.

I’m with @Ross12. They need to better manage Stevenson’s workload because even had the Patriots made the playoffs, it wasn’t a secret that he was pretty worn down after that many games.

Obviously, last season it was a moot point but I’d definitely prefer him to be a little fresher if they’re playing meaningful games next January.
i think (and hope) we will see more playing time from Strong.

I don’t think those numbers are correct.
