Update: Curran says Belichick has been on the hot seat since 2019

So Mac was good enough as a rookie but not good enough as a sophomore... it had nothing to do with Patricia.. he was great. Sounds legit...
Huh? 8/10 chances without Brady he misses the playoffs. Remember the good ole days?
One season on a superteam is not a data chunk... that's like saying Lebron going to Miami and winning a ring with Bosh and Wade was a surprise.
He went 37-19 over 3 years, but yes he’s very much lebron like where he turns teams into contenders. Good point!

He was the GOAT, so yeah but it took both of them to do it for 20 years. He's rebuilding now, we'll see how they do this year and next since the rebuild is almost complete.
They were both responsible for keeping it going so long, is that hard to understand?
When will it be complete? What’s the last thing that needs to happen to fill up the rebuild meter?

Brady was awful in 2019, happened in 2022 when his commitment was poor in the offseason and attitude was poor in season, no coincidence the results were similar. Now do the other 20 years
I already did. Nice that you have a built in excuse, claiming the most competitive player ever just wasn’t motivated. Funny how that works, whenever you are wrong you build an excuse. So you are saying Brady’s attitude held the Patriots back in 2019 and they should have won the SB but didn’t because of him?

When will it be complete? What’s the last thing that needs to happen to fill up the rebuild meter?
Do you honestly think that is how it works? That you just decide to rebuild then in a certain number of years you win a SB? There are 1000s of variables that go into building a team, developing it, wining games, peaking at the right time, etc etc and only 1 team wins the SB out of all 32 trying.
This isn’t madden franchise mode, it’s real life.

What is the excuse? I said he played horribly; wasn’t bought in and was visibility unhappy both years. That’s on him. You’re randomly holding 2019 against him yet ignore the other 20 years

So why do people say it’s almost complete? Kind of a stupid thing to say, no?

Thanks for proving my point, you are just arguing with me to argue

The Saints from 2014-2016 were a top offense, Brees led the league in passing all three years. Payton was a great coach.

They failed miserably because the defense was ranked 32nd in points allowed and dead last in forced turnovers.

If you can't admit this, then you're suggesting "defense doesn't matter." Whether you said those actual words or not.

So we've gone from Bear Bryant saying "defense wins championships" to "defense doesn't matter."

Even in the modern age with diminished defenses and offenses being favored so much... just silly.
Will you STFU with characterizing my opinion totally differently than I state it?

I have never said, thought, implied or entertained that defense doesn’t matter.

I am assessing Brees as a QB. If I give him a pass for those years, it doesn’t change my opinion.
What does that have to do with cumulative passing stats being a horrible way to judge a qb?

Wtf are you talking about? Who are “people”. And how would “people” have any judgment on that?
If “people” think the moves made will make the team competitive to their level of satisfaction then those “people” might think it’s “almost complete”.
Those “people” have nothing to do with my or your opinion or the facts.

I’m responding because, as always, you just don’t understand the topic and are saying things that deserve correction.

The post I responded to literally said the rebuild was almost complete, the conversation you weren’t involved in and clearly have no idea what’s going on in. See your way out

Wow, try to keep up.
You said the 2019-2022 “other 52” were basically the same as the SB years, and that the only change was Brady.
When I point out what Brady did the second half of 2019 you suddenly create an excuse that Brady wasn’t motivated so it doesn’t count.

I’m not “holding anything against him” I am asking why if your argument is that the only thing that changed was Brady was the offense worse with Brady the second half of 19 than it has been since. Clearly the 2019 Patriots and the 2016 Patriots were severely different rosters. Then the roster deteriorated further in 2020. It’s not rocket science to understand many things changed from the SB years to the non SB years.

It’s just crazy to me that fans of this team want to tear it down and try to diminish the contributions of the many players coaches and executives that delivered championships.

You asked a stupid question and I answered. Par for the course.

Literally no one has ever said that.
Do you disagree that assessing his job requires considering that after the greatest run in NFL history a rebuild was necessary?
Or would you rather they didn’t win those SBs so they didn’t need one?

If you’re suggesting the Saints winning 7 games had nothing or less to do with their 32nd ranked defense then there’s no mischaracterization at all.

Brees:

Super Bowl champion (XLIV)
Super Bowl MVP (XLIV)
NFL Offensive Player of the Year(2008, 2011)
Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year(2006)
NFL Comeback Player of the Year(2004)
First-team All-Pro (2006)
4× Second-team All-Pro (2008, 2009, 2011, 2018)
13× Pro Bowl (2004, 2006, 20082014, 20162019)
NFL passing yards leader (2006, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2014–2016)
NFL passing touchdowns leader(2008, 2009, 2011, 2012)
NFL passer rating leader (2009, 2018)
NFL completion percentage leader(2009–2011, 2017–2019)

Yeah… he was “elite,” among the best of all the best. The only thing that changed about him was the team around him.

Stats aren’t meaningless, that’s a horrible take.

Please show me where I ever said the 7 wins had nothing to do with the defense.

All those pretty statistics netted 9 playoff wins in 20 years, and 13 of the 20 had zero playoff wins.
Thanks for illustrating how stats aren’t the way to determine who was the best at the only thing that matters, winning.

Again you make up something else repeatedly after I repeatedly tell you I have not said that. But again show me where I said stats are meaningless.

One of 2 things is happening here. Either you lack the comprehension skills to read what someone writes and understand it or you are purposely being an asshat and making things up to argue against because you know you are wrong and can’t admit it.

Or someone is talking out both sides of their mouth… and playoff wins is a team stat, not a QB stat.

When did I say that? Why he disingenuous

No, he was awful all year, and his attitude was poor from the start. Just like 2022. Don’t buy in, don’t play well

I asked a stupid question in rebuttal to a stupid comment, that was the point, glad you’re caught up

Only time will tell my friend but I have high hopes for the upcoming season and what I want to spend my time discussing.
