Changes coming - And an FYI on potential actions

Does the phrase "let it go" not resonate with you? At all? Jesus, man. You are the most tone deaf person I have encountered. Ever. I will resort to what I said in the bar analogy. STFU about it. The man has been gone for 4 years, and he's retired.

Any last word attempts will be met with the mute button.
Whatever you gotta do man. But if you chose to hear me out then I guess it's ok for the admin, or mod, or a member to bring up Brady when it suits their opinion or argument but if I bring him up or reply to what they posted about him first then I need to STFU!?? That's ****ing fair .

Have you looked into AI at all? For example, categorized posts like “content post from BGC flag to notice” or “Dragda trying too hard to be funny tag as ignore “

I think it's the lack of context that is making you a target for this.

Brady was brought up with his quote to illustrate how the BB vs. Brady debate should be let go of. That worked in the context of this thread, which is about keeping threads from derailing... letting go of the endless debate.

You replied to the quote rather than to what it was trying to illustrate, by pointing out that Brady was just saying nice things rather than what he probably really thinks. That doesn't have a lot of context for the derailing threads conversation, except as an example of exactly what Ian's trying to develop technological solutions to stop (or at least isolate).

When someone says something about Brady that you disagree with, could you try to work it into the context of the thread? Like, "Hey, I'll go along with this, but I'll just be lying through my teeth like Brady does." Then the Brady quote works in context and you haven't derailed the thread.

In fact, this was the main reason Ashley erupted. There was some pretty bad stuff said about her.
I completely missed the incident that got her banned. If I had anything to say to her of a personal nature I tried to keep it in PM (where she was always receptive and friendly). She had a super fast trigger for deleting my posts or banning me (which often got reversed) so I obviously took exception to that.

There aren't going to be any bans if there are criticisms of BB, the team, or anyone. If I understand correctly, it's the back and forth arguing the same point over and over that is going to be muted out. Personally, I prefer everything be visible with no censoring or moderation, but this seems pretty harmless.

Make your point once or twice. Don't take the bait and go back and forth and back and forth....

I think Zappe is better than Mac. If I get banned for that, then you are correct.
I agree with what you're saying. But the "back and forth" takes multiple persons and reciprocation so it's not just about one or only few culprits like some make it out to be.

It does take two to tango. It sounds like the entire back and forth "conversation" is going to be banished, so there is no singular punishment. No harm.

As for some people pointing the finger at one or a few culprits... Who gives a ****? If you have convictions in what you are saying, say it and let the others ***** and moan. Some people here can't handle a view from the opposite side of their own version of reality. **** them.

Many other good people here don't want to read constant back and forth over and over. That's not me, but I get it. This new rule seems to fix that issue.

Let it ride. I doubt you are going to notice much of a difference.

I get what you're saying. I also think you're a good role model for how to deal with someone or something said that you don't like. Using my recollection of our interactions, you often don't agree with me, and you will offer some respectfully presented counterpoint, to which I'll reciprocate, and then usually if no common ground is apparent you'll cap it off with a sentiment of agree to disagree. That works. I generally don't have that kind of self-restraint and admittedly will bludgeon my point to death out of some usually unrealistic belief that I may change someone's differing opinion. I can understand my persistence is this regard is tiresome to some.

This thread has the Jimmy Buffet song going on in my head: Changes in attitude, changes in latitude.

Or is it the other way round?
Less latitude to improve attitude. Both would be good changes.

I didn't have an issue with her. She was quick to ban, but it kept things in order. Ross I feel tends to be a bit nicer in order to be "one of the guys." The problem is you can't do your job as a moderator if you are trying to be friends with everyone. You are going to pi$$ people off and they are going to run to Ian.
I agree, regarding Ashley. I generally liked her. But I only follow some threads not all (and I follow fewer and fewer as the board goes downhill). So I missed whatever led to her ban, thus my opinion is based on incomplete information.

Smart move Ian, every time I come here lately there seems to be backbiting when it comes to certain posters then there are those who, "wish if we only had a quarterback" or something similar. Having been around for the 5 -12 years with Mr. Kraft in charge we will never descend into that rabbit hole. There are always issues about the team and decision making, but I am a very lucky fan to have witnessed what has transpired since 2000.

For fuxsake!

I don't know off hand what exactly happened with her. I do know she and Bacon got into a fight that ultimately led Ian to ban her.

You don't say...

I recall that she banned him from some thread and he asked Ian to be unbanned and then unloaded on her (a lot of the same complaints others had about her).

Was she banned? I thought she just lost her mod status and decided to leave rather than be one of the regulars. But maybe that's naive on my part.

She was booted as moderator and banned...I thought it was a bit harsh myself. Keep her as a poster at least.

Wow. I didn't realize that. Well, I guess we finally have an answer for what it takes to get banned from Patsfans!

I wonder if I should slim down my ignore list now? Looking at it, it reads like a list of people Ian will be muting in the near future.

This is how it should be. If you don't agree with a post - tell the poster why you don't agree rather than getting worked up over it and take it personal.

It's just sports.
