Changes coming - And an FYI on potential actions

I look at this place kind of like a local sports bar where everybody goes to talk Pats news and even watch the games together.

Now imagine you’re at the bar sitting down at one end of the bar with a few local guys talking about how the rookie WRs looked at OTAs today. Conversation is casual and going fine. Then suddenly one of the dudes who seemingly never leaves the place and is always brooding in the corner somewhere pulls up a chair next to you and shouts some hot take about Belichick or Brady that has nothing to do with the conversation. Someone passing by takes offense to that and also pulls up a chair to argue with them and conversation is now impossible.

Your group gets up and leaves to move to a different area and starts talking about something else. But uh oh, another brooder pops up within minutes and shouts another hot take unprompted and the conversation is ruined yet again.

The bar owner COULD kick these disruptive people out of the bar, especially since they are driving away business from perfectly orderly patrons. What he is electing to do instead is relocate those disruptive people to their own table away from others when they become disruptive so that they don’t ruin the evening for everyone else.

I applaud @Ian for his efforts and his patience with this and I think it’ll pay big dividends. Looking forward to talking TC with everybody in a month.

I think part of the problem is a lot of people don't want to use the tech solutions. Thread-based mutes and individual-mutes are actually really amazing technological solutions undone by users not wanting to feel like they missed anything.

Might I suggest a low tech solution: More mods?

Most of the people on this forum are old and they don't like tech. Instead, they run to the moderators to complain. It's like when you have something wrong with your cable TV account - instead of looking up the solution online you immediately call customer service. THe older folks tend to do that.

I can see that point of view, but I'm not crazy about the idea that people should have to mute the @$$holes who can't be bothered to control themselves after having been warned 10,000 times about derailing threads.

It's kind of like the argument about laws and people not obeying them. If you're not enforcing the laws, then maybe you're okay with the breaking the laws in the first place.

Some here are going to cry and go on about how unfair this is, but those are the worst offenders. They will try to pretend that Ian will only allow happy happy joy joy/kumbaya posts. This is patently false. Pretty much everyone here has been critical of Belichick’s job performance last season. Same goes for Patricia, Judge, and Achord. He isn’t outlawing criticism by any means, what he’s referring to is the agenda driven posting, where the exact same people have been making the exact same arguments as nauseum, and the damage that does to forum by bogging it down with the same repetitive ********. Ian even created a separate forum for some of these posters to air their endless grievances, but that wasn’t good enough for them, as first they whined and cried about it, then decided to ignore it and bring their tired old grievances back to the main forum, and ruin as many threads as possible. So they can cry all they want but the vast majority of posters here want to talk about this team, and this coming season, and what he’s doing will benefit this forum, and that goal.

Lulz. Some of us are old and love tech so much we built the friggin Internet for Luddites like you. Too bad your prejudices are still corroding it.

However, this is a forum that does require moderation, and spamming the same thing over and over and derailing threads isn’t going to be permitted. Period.
Just bring back Ashley then. Even the mention of Brady or a hint of negativity toward Belichick was grounds for delete and ban.

Are you going to do something about members who sling gratuitous insults at other members on a regular basis?

Tom’s recently gone public yet again saying any reported issues with Bill were way overblown or exaggerated. They both respect and admire one another and he’s gonna be back as a retired player in about 3 months from now to honor his legacy in NE. If everyone else has let it go by now then folks here need to let it go.
Famous Tom Brady quote applies here...

"What I say vs. what I think are two totally different things. I would say 90 percent of what I say is probably not what I'm thinking, which is challenging. I really admire people that actually can do that and say what they think because they invite a lot of other things into their life. I think there's part of me that doesn't like conflict. So in the end, I just always try to play it super flat."

Another thread about Brady...Crawhammer's world seems to center around him.

Does the phrase "let it go" not resonate with you? At all? Jesus, man. You are the most tone deaf person I have encountered. Ever. I will resort to what I said in the bar analogy. STFU about it. The man has been gone for 4 years, and he's retired.

Any last word attempts will be met with the mute button.

I was shocked she was banned. I've seen posters say stuff way worse than her and they are still here.

There were some posters she targeted (which I remember you being one of them) and some stuff got deleted no matter what they said. Many posters gave her warnings to cut it out out which prompted what happened below.

In fact, this was the main reason Ashley erupted. There was some pretty bad stuff said about her.

Hell no to Ashley. She sucked.

There aren't going to be any bans if there are criticisms of BB, the team, or anyone. If I understand correctly, it's the back and forth arguing the same point over and over that is going to be muted out. Personally, I prefer everything be visible with no censoring or moderation, but this seems pretty harmless.

Make your point once or twice. Don't take the bait and go back and forth and back and forth....

I think Zappe is better than Mac. If I get banned for that, then you are correct.

I am anti-censorship as well. And so is Ian (to the degree he can). Everything he's done has been "self imposed censoring" - letting each member decide for themselves. Seems very member focused to me.

Folks can post here all they like - doesn't mean anyone has to read what they write.

I didn't have an issue with her. She was quick to ban, but it kept things in order. Ross I feel tends to be a bit nicer in order to be "one of the guys." The problem is you can't do your job as a moderator if you are trying to be friends with everyone. You are going to pi$$ people off and they are going to run to Ian.

Yeah I'm sure you had a lot to do with "building the internet"....

Am I still going to be allowed my yearly we would have won it Butler played post?

Crap i just wasted it again didn't I.

Great analogy, but I would also add that they better be drinking a lot of beer/drinks/food and buying a round for some of the disgruntled patrons before someone kicks their but. Otherwise, if I'm the owner of that bar I would kick their butts out and not let them back unless they stop being fools. Nobody wants to visit a bar that has annoying patrons in it, even if they are at another table. I don't visit this website as much as I used since the BB vs. Brady thing got out of hand. It's just not as enjoyable. Thanks for trying something new, but I am afraid it is just delaying the inevitable.

This thread has the Jimmy Buffet song going on in my head: Changes in attitude, changes in latitude.

Or is it the other way round?
