Exemplary like Jonathan Wilhite, Tyrone Wheatley, Joe Juan Williams, Ras-I Dowling, Devin McCourty (HOF caliber safety, yes, but busted at corner), should we look at the rest of the defensive backfield as well and consider all nine thousand of the busted safeties too? It wasn’t until McCourty quarterbacked the secondary that the NE defensive back pipeline became a thing. The patriots don’t have the Brady of the secondary who elevated everyone around him anymore. It is poor strategy to rely upon it.

McCourty went to a pro bowl as a rookie at CB. Then, to your point, he had terrible safeties behind him in year 2, which makes it tough on a corner. So they moved him there to shore that up. Using McCourty as an example of bad corner drafting (the only other corner we've taken in round 1) isn't a good example, IMO.

He had a great first year until teams figured out he didn’t have the hips to cover two breaks. That’s why he kept getting smoked on post-corners until they moved him to safety.

The Patriots already have a bevy of "hitters" - Duggar and Peppers most notably (even Phillips), but that's the LBs job as well. McCourty was the exact same thing - a wrap tackler (which BTW is much more fundamentally sound football) vice a "hitter". The "he'll fail because he doesn't hit" is the epitome of finding fault just for the sake of being contrary.
The best CB is the one who doesn't have to tackle at all

The first by-line in the leaked Browns requisite manual written by Belichick on defensive backs is, (something to the effect of) “must be a fierce tackler”. The Patriots when they are at their best play a game of attrition. You cannot implement attrition without physicality.

Look, I don't know you, but you clearly want to focus on the negative, so...

I don’t care if he’s not a tone setting tackler. There, I said it. It’s not anywhere near the top 10 things he needs to be for us
He's a good enough more than willing tackler.. I went and watched some clips on him, and his scouting information.. so I'd agree.. his game is ball skills and press man coverage skills.. his confidence is off the charts! Perfect mentality to play DB in the NFL.. I envision Gonzalez and Jack on the outside..

Look.. I get what he was trying to say.. however those years of Wheatley, Darius butler, whilhite.. the secondary was with it's DNA a lockdown corner.. it wasn't until Talib came around there we started to have some resistance.. Brady and the offense was putting up record numbers those
The best CB is the one who doesn't have to tackle at all
Or one that doesn't even get tested...

One of the analysts on NFL network spoke of physicality and his willingness to help on run support. I'm not sweating the no tackling reports at this time.

Yes, neither am I. The team did thier homework on him.. and they help to sure up such a pressing obvious need at CB.. we will still add some veteran depth there between now and camp.
