Used to be a huge Curran apologist, but he went a lot sideways when he was reporting on #12 after he had knee surgery.
Now view him with a crooked eye..

Even watching/listening to him speak, you can hear the disdain in his voice and the way he words things.. been like that for years.

As a QB who played in the Shanahan system, it was always obvious to me that Hoyer was a major source for the Herald’s offensive dysfunction piece. He gets to collect $1.4 million for nothing because of it.

Curran has definitely lost some on his fast ball, but he's still better than clowns like Volin, IMO.

When TC talks about the on-field stuff he still can produce some gems, but unfortunately these days he spends the vast majority of his time spinning off-the-field narratives, and he sucks at that.

Felger can lie to the camera on cue, TC always lets some degree of guilt about lying show through.

TC wants it both ways, both well-paid narrative spinner and hard-core journalist, and it doesn't work that way.

To really be good at it you have to sell your soul like Felger did, and TC can't quite bring himself to do that.

That is very, very interesting... he was MIA after the green bay game exiting with a concussion of course.. that is very peculiar you definitely could be right on that.. it also mentions in the herald peice about staffers, people in the organization and coaches.. So is BB going to have a gripe with everyone.... I'm sure internally they have had to have discussions..

Meh. This is a typical off season non-story, you're right. Chris Sims sucks, he's not unlike Felger. With that said, I don't doubt that Bill, being a military type guy, would be pissed that someone or someoneS went outside the chain of command. Can we draw from the intimation that the QB room, or at least Mac and Hoyer, went outside the organization and now Hoyer isn't here, but Mac is a 1st round pedigree and on a rookie deal, so he has value? Maybe. I can see that Bill would be irate that things aren't kept in house, no matter how eff'd up the situation was. I guess if they deal Mac we will know for certain, but my guess is that Bill is 71 and Mac is going to be here longer than Bill is at this point.

The whole thing just shows me how untenable the 2022 situation was, and how Bill eff'd it up royally. I think he very much underestimated what needed to be done offensively, and over estimated what JJ/FM could do. I still think that they wanted BoB, had a wink and a handshake deal that he'd join when his deal in Alabama was up, and JJ/FM were here to keep the seat warm. I think RKK signed off, and everyone thought how bad can it be? That includes RKK. All of this chit in the media is just that; chit. RKK knew what Bill was doing, and no one dreamed it's would be as ****ed up as it turned out. My guess is under BoB, the offense is going to be productive at the levels we are accustomed to seeing, giving BB more time to be involved on D and ST. I would expect us to see a much more Patriot like performance, at least when it comes to how they look like they are the team that is superiorly coached.

Not only did BB dedicate Judge and Patricia to Offense, he had Patricia do double duty coaching the O-Line. Meanwhile, Caley was subjugated because he wanted the title that went along with the responsibilities. Can't have that.

If Caley sucked, so be it. He clearly should have been the next man up if you are unwilling to go outside of the organization.

The worst part of all of this is it exposes BB as either having disdain, or no clue, or both on offensive systems and play calling. All of his focus should have been on the offensive side of the ball last year.

Unfortunately, the state of journalism - in its entirety - made blunder after blunder in securing a profitable future. Even if a sports journalist gives a damn, they pretty much have to give into this kind of journalism. We could go into the politics and economy of it all, but the circumstances remain, which is necessitating this kind of "so i heard" reporting. I do appreciate the folks keeping up with good reporting, but I have to assume they have other sources of income in life.

By everyone* I meant everyone in the organization, not fans and media. I think they (BB, RKK and the rest of the brain trust) sat in a meeting and said that JJ/FM have a ton of football knowledge, they can handle this enough to get by until BoB gets here. I don't think they had any clue it would blow up as bad as it did.

I don't know how good an offensive coach Calley was. BUT you can't give a guy a job to be an OC or even a play caller when you know KNOW that he isn't going to keep the job the next year. That was why they couldn't go with him last season. And when he left he left for a lateral position with the Rams.

I think Steve nailed it.

Bill knew that BOB was going to be his OC in 2023. I think he THOUGHT he could get by with Patricia and Judge. There are a LOT of great coaches who didn't play the position or originally coached the position before. Dante, perhaps the best OL coach of his generation never played a down of OL in his life. Bill was a better lacrosse player than football player and never played a down of defense, but learned to coach EVERYTHING well.

Both Patricia AND Judge had years of experience coaching. You CANNOT coordinate a defense without having intimate knowledge of offensive concepts. Patricia had years of coordinating experience. He WAS an OLman, and started out on that side of the ball. Judge had worked with QB's and WR's. He WAS a former QB. So it COULD have worked (on paper). It certainly was a calculated risk, but done in a year Bill knew that they may be competing for a playoff spot, but he wasn't competing for a championship.

BUT it didn't work, not even close. And Bill should take full blame for the results.....and he has. He hasn't ducked the result of last year, has he? No, but he HAS moved on. Same as with superbowl winning teams. It's now a new year, a new team with it's own unique chemistry and personality. In fact it is a team that STILL has to add about 25-30 more guys before they head to camp in August.

BTW Waterboy you are aptly named if you think Bill doesn't have a "clue" about ANY aspect of the game of football.

As for the OP. This is a really dead time for the NFL - After the first blush of FA and 3 weeks before the draft. It's their JOB to create content that will get people to click, read, and discuss. I don't get made when the media speculates

Is it possible to believe that an extremely frustrated Mac Jones went outside the building to find some help last year? I'd be surprised if he didn't. Would Bill be pissed if he had? Yeah, pretty sure.....at the time. Connecting dots is what columnists and analysts do. Facts have nothing to do with it. Facts are REPORTERS' jobs. But WHO cares. That was then and this is now. The team that will represent us for the 2023 season is a LONG way from being built.

Also remember that for the last 20 odd years Bill has been pretty much untouchable from media, relative to most coaches and managers in sports. He is also a guy who seems to go out of his way to make the media's job as hard as possible. SO when he is 4 years past his last playoff win and it doesn't look great for that to change anytime soon.......payback is a *****.

People might have forgotten, but there was a time when the 2 biggest sports in Boston were really, Politics and REVENGE

I think there is one massive flaw with your theory.

JJ/FM completely redid the offense. If the plan was to get BoB in 2023 then why would move to a new offensive scheme that BoB doesn't use, instead of keeping the traditional Patriots scheme that he does use?

Sadly, I agree. They would assert that such sources are 99.9% BS and worthless - and that's true. But in every crowd, made up mostly of noisy idiots, there are a very few who see clearly and know what they are talking about. It is worth the effort to seek out their opinion on players or coaches one proposes to acquire.

Honestly, he should be fired in that case.

Because telling the people running your offense, who lack offensive coaching experience, and are only holding the seat warm for your preferred choice, to keep running the same system that has been used for 20+ years is hardly an "iron fist".

Its completely crazy to let your 1 year fill in offensive coaches completely redo your offensive system and risk the development of your 2nd year QB.

I doubt that's why Hoyer was released. Probably had a lot more to do with Hoyer being 37 and done and Zappe taking his backup job.

They could've waited until the end of TC to release him then, if that were indeed the case... As Curran correctly noted.
